- Institutional readiness to deliver total intravenous anaesthesia for obstetric patients: a national Irish survey. [Journal Article]Anaesth Rep. 2026 Jul-Dec; 14(2):e70111.AR
- Total intravenous anaesthesia is a core safety standard for absolute indications, such as malignant hyperthermia susceptibility, yet little is known about institutional readiness to deliver total intravenous anaesthesia for obstetric patients. We conducted a national cross-sectional service evaluation of all 19 Irish maternity units via the Irish Society of Obstetric Anaesthesia network. Response…

- Electroencephalographic complexity and cognitive decline: Insights from approximate entropy across aging and dementia. [Journal Article]Alzheimers Dement (N Y). 2026 Oct-Dec; 12(4):e70284.AD
- CONCLUSIONS: The distinct entropy patterns observed across frequency bands and scalp/brain regions may help characterize electrophysiological changes associated with cognitive decline and AD.

- Frontotemporal lobar degeneration therapeutic development pipeline: 2026. [Review]Alzheimers Dement (N Y). 2026 Oct-Dec; 12(4):e70326.AD
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the FTLD pipeline remains largely early stage, advances in mechanistically targeted therapies highlight the importance of proactive case-finding, genetically stratified trial designs, biomarker-guided diagnosis, and mechanism-based therapeutic development.

- Predictive biomarkers for precision treatment in rheumatoid arthritis: are we there yet? [Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1970975.FP
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting approximately 1% of the global population and is associated with a substantial reduction in both life expectancy and quality of life. Although current treatments, primarily disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, have been shown to suppress inflammation, clinical responses vary widely between individuals, reflecting the heterogene…

- Low-overshoot control method for tennis trainer based on active disturbance rejection control. [Journal Article]Front Sports Act Living. 2026; 8:1832801.FS
- Traditional tennis trainers employing passive return mechanisms (springs or rubber bands) suffer from fixed return angles, non-adjustable damping, inability to measure hitting speed, and monotonous training modes. To overcome these limitations, this paper presents an active return device based on a joint motor and proposes a low-overshoot control method using Nonlinear Active Disturbance Rejectio…

- Machine learning-based ecological prediction of maternal mortality ratio in malaria-endemic Africa. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1929496.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study indicate that MMR in African countries is influenced by malaria burden and strongly shaped by reproductive, and socioeconomic factors. Reducing maternal mortality in Africa requires the implementation of comprehensive and effective maternal health policy approach that integrates malaria control strategies, malaria-climate surveillance and maternal health literacy programs, alongside strengthening governance, improving institutional capacity, and enhancing health-system performance.

- A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of non-pharmacological interventions in improving psychological status and sleep quality among hemodialysis patients. [Systematic Review]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1919741.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: The available evidence suggests that non-pharmacological interventions may improve depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and sleep quality in patients receiving MHD. However, the certainty of evidence was low for anxiety and sleep quality outcomes and moderate for depressive symptoms, and these findings should be interpreted cautiously.

- Acute-Onset Iron Overload Cardiomyopathy in Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia: A Case Report of Rapid Ejection Fraction Decline. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e116110.C
- Diamond-Blackfan anaemia (DBA) is a rare inherited bone marrow failure syndrome causing pure red cell aplasia. Patients frequently require long-term red cell transfusions, predisposing them to iron overload. This case describes a patient with DBA with rapid ejection fraction decline secondary to acute-onset iron overload cardiomyopathy. A 28-year-old male patient with known transfusion-dependent …

- An AI-driven evidence ecosystem for cardiometabolic nutrition: bridging the gap from multiomics to patient empowerment. [Journal Article]Front Nutr. 2026; 13:1924184.FN
- Cardiometabolic diseases remain a primary global health challenge, with nutritional interventions serving as a critical pillar of management. However, the rapidly expanding volume of nutritional research, spanning high-dimensional multiomics, real-world continuous monitoring, and highly heterogeneous clinical trials, has created fragmented knowledge silos, leading to a profound translation lag be…

- Immune checkpoint inhibitors across neoadjuvant, perioperative, and adjuvant settings for resectable non-small-cell lung cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials. [Systematic Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1949219.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: ICI-containing strategies initiated before surgery improve pathological response, EFS, and OS in resectable NSCLC. Approximately 70% of patients assigned to perioperative experimental arms started postoperative study treatment; this descriptive treatment-delivery finding does not establish whether postoperative ICI can be safely omitted. Prospective response- and residual-risk-guided randomized trials are required.

- Achieved systolic blood pressure and cardiovascular outcomes in advanced chronic kidney disease. [Journal Article]Clin Kidney J. 2026 Oct; 19(10):sfag296.CK
- CONCLUSIONS: In nephrology-referred patients with advanced CKD, achieved SBP around 120-<130 mmHg (near 125 mmHg) was associated with the lowest cardiovascular and mortality risk, while SBP ≥140 mmHg, especially ≥160 mmHg, was consistently associated with higher MACE risk.

- Genomic insight into the antibiotic-resistant determinants of Escherichia coli from small ruminants and manure in North West Province, South Africa. [Journal Article]Front Microbiol. 2026; 17:1950193.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this represents the first whole-genome sequencing-based genomic characterization of E. coli recovered from sheep and goats in South Africa, thereby expanding the known genomic diversity of livestock-associated E. coli within the country. Furthermore, data generated in this study emphasizes the necessity of ongoing genomic monitoring to track the emergence and spread of resistant E. coli, which is crucial for monitoring and mitigating potential public health risks.
