- Schlafen regulates gastrulation in Xenopus laevis early embryonic development and exhibits immune tissue-specific expression in adult frogs. [Journal Article]Int J Dev Biol. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Schlafen genes are conserved regulators of cell proliferation and play a pivotal role in immunity and host defence, yet their function during vertebrate development remains poorly understood. Here, we characterize the expression, phosphorylation dynamics, and function of the single Schlafen ortholog in Xenopus laevis (slfn13) during embryogenesis and in adult tissues. Slfn13 protein levels increa…

- Comparing reproducibility among observers for low-, standard-, and high-dose protocols of CBCT assessing anatomical landmarks and pathology related to third molars: An ex vivo study. [Journal Article]Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol. 2026 Sep 03. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Reproducibility in the assessment of third molars was primarily influenced by the diagnostic parameter and the observer rather than by CBCT dose level or unit. Lowering dose did not result in a consistent change in reproducibility. These findings indicate that LD protocols may provide sufficient reproducibility for third molar-related assessments.

- Belimumab prevention against organ damage over 8 years and safety up to 13 years: three pooled open-label, long-term extension SLE studies. [Journal Article]Lupus Sci Med. 2026 Oct 05; 13(2).LS
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with SLE treated with belimumab reduced GC use and had minimal to no organ damage progression over 8 years. Robust and consistent safety data up to 13 years support the well-established favourable safety profile of belimumab, with no new safety concerns.

- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the implementation of TDM did not significantly impact PK/PD target attainment, which underscores the importance of integrating a protocolised dose adaptation algorithm. Neurological adverse events were associated with drug overexposure and kidney function impairment.

- Exacerbation trajectories in biologic-eligible severe asthma patients. [Journal Article]Chest. 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]Chest
- CONCLUSIONS: Over two-thirds of biologic-eligible patients improved with standard care alone. Chronic-frequent exacerbators had higher blood eosinophil counts, even years before meeting biologic criteria, suggesting a distinct disease phenotype.

- Persistent influenza A RNA detection in a fatal pediatric case of influenza-associated encephalopathy. [Journal Article]J Infect Public Health. 2026 Oct 01; 19(11):103380. [Online ahead of print]JI
- Influenza-associated encephalopathy (IAE) is a life-threatening complication of influenza. We report a case of a 9-year-old boy diagnosed with fulminant IAE. The patient received life-sustaining support, intensive immunomodulatory therapy, and antiviral therapy. Following an initial single dose of baloxavir marboxil, persistent influenza A (H3N2) RNA detection prompted a multi-targeted antiviral …

- CONCLUSIONS: A single dose of MenACYW-TT induced non-inferior immune responses and a comparable safety profile versus MenACYW-DT in children and adolescents aged 2-17 years. MenACYW-TT was well tolerated and immunogenic in adults, adolescents, and children in India and in adolescents and children in South Africa.

- Behavioral economic analysis of the reinforcing effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and mixtures of fentanyl and cocaine in rats. [Journal Article]Drug Alcohol Depend. 2026 Oct 01; 288:113382. [Online ahead of print]DA
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that interactions between the reinforcing effects of fentanyl and cocaine are additive in nature, however, it is unclear whether similar interactions would be observed under clinically relevant states, such as physical dependence on opioids or opioid withdrawal.

- Honoring Miral Dizdaroglu: the dizdar, a lesion-resolved unit for quantifying radiation-induced DNA damage. [Review]Int J Radiat Biol. 2026 Oct 05; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This approach provides a basis for time-dependent measurements of DNA damage and, with further validation, could help assess repair dynamics and the biological effects of different radiation delivery modalities. Advances in single-molecule methods, uncertainty quantification, & calibration can help bridge dosimetry to biological effectiveness via the dizdar, quantifying one link in the stochastic chain that leads to cell death and cancer. In turn, this may deepen our understanding of radiation-induced DNA damage and have applications in emergency response, radiation processing, space research, & cancer treatment.

- Trends in Developing PPAR-Gamma and FFAR1/GPCR40 Modulators for Managing Type-II Diabetes Mellitus. [Review]Arch Pharm (Weinheim). 2026 Oct; 359(10):e70335.AP
- Agonists of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ) gained the main interest for managing type-II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as insulin sensitizers. Serving as 2nd-line therapeutics, glitazones were the first class, influencing PPAR-γ, yet a range of adverse effects were reported regarding the use of PPAR-γ full agonists. Agents having partial PPAR-γ agonistic effect or selectivel…

- Biosafety of rabies virus and related lyssaviruses: Risks, precautions, and knowledge gaps in diagnostic and research laboratories. [Review]PLoS Negl Trop Dis. 2026 Oct; 20(10):e0014757.PN
- Lyssaviruses cause rabies in mammals, a viral encephalomyelitis that is almost always fatal once clinical symptoms develop and can be transmitted to humans. Given this high fatality rate, strict biosafety measures are essential during laboratory handling of potentially infectious materials. This review critically assesses current biosafety practices in rabies diagnostic and research laboratories …

- Temporal proximity to counseling is associated with longitudinal bedaquiline and antiretroviral therapy adherence in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and HIV treatment. [Randomized Controlled Trial]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0355696.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: NLP methods structured routine counseling notes into interpretable, adherence-related themes. Temporal proximity to counseling sessions was consistently associated with longitudinal BDQ and ART adherence. These findings offer preliminary insights into adherence dynamics and generate hypotheses about the role of counseling session timing in adherence support.
