- Pembrolizumab-Associated Immune-Related Cystitis Mimicking Urothelial Malignancy as Part of a Multi-organ Immune-Related Adverse Event (irAE) Phenotype in a Patient With Metastatic Squamous Cell Lung Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115708.C
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the treatment of metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but can cause a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) affecting multiple organ systems. Although common irAEs are well characterized, immune-related cystitis is rare and may pose a significant diagnostic challenge, particularly when urine cytology demonstrates a…

- A Review of Minimally Invasive Therapies for Men with Overactive Bladder. [Review]Curr Urol Rep. 2026 Oct 03; 27(1).CU
- This manuscript aims to provide an overview of minimally invasive treatment for overactive bladder (OAB) in men, highlighting how concomitant bladder outlet obstruction in men can complicate management and lead to underutilization of these therapies in this patient population.

- Pilomatrix-like high grade carcinomas involving urinary bladder: a novel divergent differentiation in urothelial carcinoma. [Journal Article]Virchows Arch. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]VA
- The full morphologic spectrum of divergent differentiations in urothelial carcinoma is still unknown. Herein, we describe two cases of pilomatrix-like high grade carcinomas (PiMLC) involving bladder. Case #1 was a 55-year-old male with a bladder tumor with basaloid nests, geographic necrosis, and shadow cells. The tumor cells were positive for LEF1, β-catenin (nuclear/cytoplasmic staining), CK5/6…

- Ecological Momentary Assessment Reveals Greater Anxiety and Marked Instability of Urinary Urgency in Overactive Bladder. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirm cross-sectional evidence for increased psychological and urinary burden and provide novel evidence of substantial fluctuations in distress and urinary symptoms in OAB patients. Findings suggest exploring mechanistic links between psychological and urinary symptoms and highlight the utility of EMA as an assessment tool in OAB.

- Antibiotic Use for Cystitis and Risk of Treatment Failure in Pregnancy Following Gastric Bypass: A Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- Cystitis is common during pregnancy and requires effective antibiotic treatment to prevent complications. Gastric bypass surgery alters gastrointestinal anatomy and may impair oral drug absorption, raising concerns about antibiotic effectiveness. We therefore aimed to examine antibiotic use for cystitis and the risk of treatment failure in pregnant women with prior gastric bypass. In this nationw…

- Multiclass Diagnostic Improvement of Interstitial Cystitis (IC) and Overactive Bladder (OAB) via Machine Learning Pipeline on Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). [Journal Article]ACS Sens. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]AS
- Interstitial cystitis (IC) and overactive bladder (OAB) are chronic pelvic conditions with shared symptoms of urinary urgency, increased frequency, and nocturia with pain in the bladder. IC is characterized by bladder pain and inflammation without a clear etiology, whereas OAB involves detrusor overactivity in the absence of infection. Despite this symptomatic overlap, IC and OAB differ in underl…

- Mechanisms of microbiome-immune interactions in bladder cancer and targeted regulatory strategies. [Review]
- Bladder cancer (BC), a highly prevalent malignancy of the urinary tract, imposes a considerable clinical burden because of its high recurrence rates and a substantial risk of disease progression. Accumulating evidence suggests that microbiome dysbiosis is associated with the initiation and progression of BC through potentially bidirectional interactions. Recent advances in high-throughput sequenc…

- Small cell carcinoma arising in a defunctionalized bladder after urinary diversion for a benign condition: A case report and literature review. [Case Reports]
- Bladder cancer arising in a defunctionalized bladder after urinary diversion is rare. We report a 42-year-old man who developed pure small cell carcinoma 20 years after diversion for childhood trauma. Lower abdominal discomfort and increasing intravesical fluid accumulation prompted reevaluation. Preoperative biopsy was interpreted as urothelial carcinoma, whereas the cystectomy specimen revealed…

- Nanoparticle-based therapeutic platforms for inflammatory disorders of the urinary system: Engineering local delivery, biointerface regulation, and smart responsive therapy. [Review]
- Inflammatory diseases of the urinary system, including urinary tract infection (UTI), catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), are associated with high recurrence, complex pathogenesis, and limited therapeutic durability. Conventional treatments are constrained by anti…

- A Case of Urinary Tract Infection Resulting From Voiding Dysfunction Caused by Sacral Herpes Zoster Involving the Left Buttock. [Case Reports]
- Herpes zoster-associated voiding dysfunction is an uncommon complication but may occur when the sacral dermatomes are involved. In immunocompromised patients, including kidney transplant recipients receiving immunosuppressive therapy, urinary retention may predispose patients to secondary urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis. Prompt recognition and appropriate management are therefore …

- Prostatic urethral lift in young men seeking preservation of ejaculatory function and fertility-related parameters: semen analysis up to 18 months and comparative review of MIST. [Journal Article]Minerva Urol Nephrol. 2026 Aug; 78(4):574-582.MU
- CONCLUSIONS: In carefully selected young men, PUL did not result in a deterioration of the semen quality and ejaculation through 18 months while providing durable symptom relief. To our knowledge, this is the first report of successful paternity following PUL. Ejaculation-sparing MIST should be central to counseling for fertility-conscious patients.

- Simultaneous surgery for NMIBC and BOO: evaluating surgical safety to oncological benefit. [Systematic Review]Minerva Urol Nephrol. 2026 Aug; 78(4):484-497.MU
- CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis demonstrates that simultaneous surgery is not only oncologically safe but also appears to be associated with a lower risk of recurrence. Reducing obstruction may improve bladder dynamics and lower urothelial exposure to urine carcinogens, suggesting that, alongside its established surgical safety, this approach should also be considered for its potential oncological benefits.

- Surrogacy of intermediate clinical endpoints for overall survival in BCG-naïve high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory, hypothesis-generating analysis, PFS and EFS were strongly associated with OS at the individual level but failed to demonstrate robust pseudo-trial-level surrogacy. These endpoints may not fully capture treatment effects on OS, warranting caution when interpreting ICE-driven trial results in BCG-naïve HR-NMIBC.

- CONCLUSIONS: ctDNA is clinically actionable in bladder cancer and prognostic in advanced prostate cancer, whereas ecDNA remains an investigational driver. Structural confirmation of ecDNA in blood, assay standardisation and prospective biomarker-stratified trials are the priorities for the field.
