- Concurrent Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome, Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, and Myocarditis Leading to Multi-organ Failure in a Patient With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Antiphospholipid Syndrome. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e116801.C
- Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is a fulminant and life-threatening manifestation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APLS), often presenting with rapid multi-organ dysfunction and high mortality despite aggressive therapy. Its associations with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and lupus myocarditis are not well understood. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman with systemic l…

- Early Discharge With Fast-Track Protocol After Median Full Sternotomy in Cardiac Surgery. [Journal Article]Catheter Cardiovasc Interv. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]CC
- CONCLUSIONS: The FT protocol was associated with decreased hospital LOS. Additionally, this study suggested that discharge within 3 postoperative days is feasible after most valve surgeries.

- Regulators of Mineralization and Long-Term Progression of Aortic Valve and Mitral Annular Calcification: MESA. [Journal Article]J Am Heart Assoc. 2026 Sep 24; :e042370. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: In this multiethnic sample, dp-ucMGP and FGF-23 were associated with higher, and fetuin-A with lower, long-term incidence/progression of valvular or annular calcification. This has implications for therapeutic trials of calcific valvular disease, particularly targeting vitamin K supplementation to individuals with higher dp-ucMGP levels.

- Right Heart Remodeling Redefines Risk in Significant Secondary Tricuspid Regurgitation Without Indication for Intervention. [Journal Article]J Am Heart Assoc. 2026 Sep 24; :e049040. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with significant STR without surgical indications, ≥3 markers of RHR identify a high-risk phenotype with outcomes similar to those meeting surgical criteria or considered inoperable.

- Comparison of bag-valve-device ventilation and volume-controlled ventilation with laryngeal tube evo in intra-arrest ventilation-a prospective randomized study in human body donors. [Journal Article]J Anesth Analg Crit Care. 2026 Sep 24; 6(1).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Comparing volume-controlled ventilation with bag-valve-device ventilation for asynchronous ventilation during mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation using the laryngeal tube evo, volume-controlled ventilation resulted in higher Vte and Vte/kgBW, but lower ∆Vt and respiratory rates. Future studies should evaluate laryngeal tube evo in prehospital use during mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation. When doubts regarding its effectiveness are present, synchronous ventilation (30:2) should be performed.

- Long-term outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve repair in patients with cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]Geroscience. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]G
- Surgical and transcatheter mitral valve interventions are the mainstay of treatment for mitral regurgitation (MR). Their impact in patients with cancer has recently gained attention in observational studies but remains poorly characterized. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate outcomes of mitral valve interventions, with particular focus on M-TEER, in patients with activ…

- CONCLUSIONS: The guideline writing panel provided new conditional recommendations for the treatment of antithrombotic-associated acute ICH. These recommendations are intended for consideration along with the patient's clinical status and patient-specific factors.

- TAVI-TEC: an AI-based tool for procedural planning of transcatheter aortic valve implantation. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Interv Ther. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]CI
- Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is crucial for preprocedural TAVI planning, providing the anatomical information required for prosthesis sizing and vascular access assessment. As the volume of TAVI procedure increases, improving efficiency and standardizing annotations is becoming essential in clinical practice. This study presents TAVI-TEC, a fully automated artificial intelligence-based f…

- Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Surgical Myectomy with Concomitant Aortic Valve Replacement: Data of the Netherlands Heart Registration. [Journal Article]Ann Thorac Surg. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]AT
- CONCLUSIONS: Surgical myectomy with concomitant AVR effectively relieved LVOT-obstruction; however, permanent pacemaker implantation was a relatively common complication. At longer-term follow-up, these patients showed lower survival compared to the age- and sex-matched general Dutch population.

- Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease-Associated Aortopathy in Pediatric Subjects-From Traditional Assessment to Current Advances and Future Perspectives: A Narrative Review. [Review]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Sep 13; 14(5).MS
- Background: Bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAVD) is the most frequent congenital heart disease, occurring either as an isolated lesion or in association with other congenital cardiovascular malformations, with variable patterns of progression and risk of valvular and vascular complications. Studies addressing pediatric bicuspid aortopathy are still in their infancy. This narrative review aims to …

- Multivalvular Involvement in Acute Heart Failure: Associations with One-Year Outcomes and the Right-Heart Phenotype. [Journal Article]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Sep 12; 14(5).MS
- Background: Valvular heart disease frequently accompanies acute heart failure (AHF), yet most studies address single valve lesions, and the prognostic weight of concurrent multivalvular involvement is less well defined. We examined the prevalence of single- and multi-valve disease and its relationship with one-year mortality. Methods: We analyzed 530 consecutive patients enrolled in a prospective…

- Evolution of Aortic Valve Replacement Across Two Eras: Institutional Changes in Transcatheter and Surgical Practice and Outcomes. [Journal Article]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Sep 10; 14(5).MS
- Objectives: Conventionally, the gold standard for aortic valve disease has been surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Advances in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) have since produced marked improvements in both outcomes and procedural volume. We sought to characterize this evolution by comparing the earliest and most recent 100 procedures of each modality at a single high-volume …

- Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis: Current Insights into an Often Overlooked Cause of Left Ventricular Outflow Tract (LVOT) Obstruction. [Review]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Aug 25; 14(5).MS
- CONCLUSIONS: Subvalvular aortic stenosis is a complex and progressive disease requiring careful imaging assessment and timely surgical management. Although surgical outcomes are generally excellent, recurrence and progressive aortic valve involvement remain important long-term considerations. Ongoing research aimed at improving risk stratification and optimizing surgical strategies may further enhance patient outcomes.
