  • Metatarsal Strains During Loading and Motion of the Foot and Ankle in a Cadaveric Model. [Journal Article]
J Orthop Res. 2026 Oct; 44(10):e70281.Nicolescu JM, Le AH, … Troy KLJO
  • Metatarsal bone stress injuries (BSI) are painful, overuse injuries commonly seen in athletes and military personnel. High strain magnitudes combined with repetitive loading cycles causes bone fatigue and microdamage accumulation. To protect against BSI, it is necessary to determine how to limit bone strain magnitude without sacrificing physical activity. This study examined maximum and minimum p…
  • Outpatient Ponseti Management of Idiopathic Clubfoot in Infants: A Prospective Benchmark Study. [Journal Article]
Ann Afr Med. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]Prajwal G, Agrawal U, … Venkatakrishnaiah KAA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Ponseti treatment produced reliable short-term correction of early idiopathic clubfoot in infants, with minimal surgical intervention. These findings should be interpreted as a reference outcome for routine early-presenting cases, while future research should focus on delayed, recurrent, syndromic, and secondary clubfoot where the treatment response may differ.
  • Femoral osteotomies for hip joint preservation. [Review]
Int Orthop. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]Motomura G, Nakashima YIO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Femoral osteotomy remains a valuable strategy for hip preservation and represents a unique legacy of Japanese hip surgery. Continued technological innovation and effective transmission of surgical expertise will be essential to sustain and further develop this contribution to hip-preserving surgery in the modern arthroplasty era.
  • What is the preferred timing for surgery after proximal humerus fractures: an e-modified Delphi Survey Study. [Journal Article]
JSES Rev Rep Tech. 2026 Nov; 6(4):100865.Mennes SRJ, de Klerk HH, … Timing for Shoulder Surgery Consortium (TSSC)JR
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study provides insights on consensus among international shoulder surgeons for preferred timing of surgery for PHFs for urgent indications. Importantly, consensus was not achieved for most non-emergent PHFs, underscoring the area of uncertainty in clinical practice regarding the optimal treatment window. This study highlights the absence of agreement and lack of high-quality evidence to guide physicians on the timing of operative treatment for PHFs and can be a starting point for further clinical research and developing guidelines on the timing of surgical interventions for PHFs.
  • Hindfoot Varus Is Not Universally Present in Müller-Weiss Disease: A Clinical and Radiographic Analysis. [Journal Article]
    Foot Ankle Int. 2026 Sep 23; :10711007261484951. [Online ahead of print]Bai W, Cheng C, … Shen GFA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Hindfoot varus was not universal in MWD. Clinical hindfoot appearance and Kite angle were associated with standardized coronal hindfoot alignment, whereas no statistically significant association was detected for the lateral Meary-Tomeno angle. These findings support direct assessment of hindfoot alignment and individualized, multiplanar evaluation before implementing a patient-specific treatment plan in patients with MWD.
  • "Crooked and Short Legs" in Childhood. [Journal Article]
    Z Orthop Unfall. 2026 Sep 23. [Online ahead of print]Antfang C, Placzek R, … Plöger MMZO
  • For decades, paediatric orthopaedics have been analysing the developmental changes in axes, length and torsion in children. Throughout the entire growth period, these relationships change continuously. Understanding them and being able to classify them as physiological or pathological is essential. If, during growth, greater axis deviations or limb length discrepancies arise, minimally invasive g…
