• The association between pain and health status during prosthetic adaptation after lower limb loss-A retrospective chart review. [Journal Article]
Prosthet Orthot Int. 2026 Aug 04. [Online ahead of print]Niederstrasser NG, Ostler C, … Slepian PMPO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Early PAP is a risk factor for poorer health, suggesting a possible target for future research investigating multimodal interventions aimed at reducing pain. These interventions and the associated reductions in pain could potentially help facilitate engagement in rehabilitation exercises and prosthesis use to improve functional, psychological, and pain-related outcomes, thereby improving health. Nevertheless, complete data were available for only 44 of 536 eligible records, highlighting a substantial risk of selection bias.
  • Empathy to exhaustion: A mixed-methods qualitative study exploring burnout in orthotic and prosthetic clinicians. [Journal Article]
Prosthet Orthot Int. 2026 Aug 07. [Online ahead of print]Schavey D, Sherman JPO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Burnout was highly prevalent among O&P clinicians, with emotional exhaustion representing the most prominent domain. Qualitative findings highlighted the contribution of organizational or workload pressures, financial and career strain, coping strategies, and the progressive nature of burnout. These results underscore burnout as a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by both individual and systemic factors, and further research into interventions addressing this issue is critical for clinician well-being and the sustainability of the profession.
  • Case study evaluation of stability and mobility in a length-actuated transfemoral prosthesis. [Journal Article]
Prosthet Orthot Int. 2026 Aug 04. [Online ahead of print]Parr TE, Lv G, … DesJardins JDPO
  • Unilateral transfemoral prosthesis users experience increased gait compensations, possibly because of their inability to produce sufficient knee flexion resistance during stance, ankle plantar flexion for forward progression, and leg shortening for toe clearance. This case study evaluates a novel kneeless prosthesis with powered length actuation (lengthening for push-off and shortening for toe cl…
  • Pressure sores and bracing complications in idiopathic clubfoot. [Journal Article]
Prosthet Orthot Int. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]Kollias CM, Neville E, … Vladusic SPO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Brace-related complications were common, and pressure sores were nearly twice as frequent in Mitchell FABB era compared with Markell FABB era. These findings highlight the importance of close surveillance, caregiver education, and brace modification strategies to optimize tolerance and maintain compliance during bracing phase of Ponseti treatment.
  • Exploration of the graduate outcomes survey to describe the demographics and short-term employment outcomes of Australian orthotic/prosthetic graduates from 2016 to 2023. [Journal Article]
Prosthet Orthot Int. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]Leone R, Ridgewell E, … Dillon MPPO
  • CONCLUSIONS: The GOS provides high-level data describing the demographic and employment outcomes of O&P graduates. There are opportunities for universities, professional associations, and government agencies to collaboratively address some of the most pressing challenges affecting the O&P workforce, such as greater participation among Indigenous Australians or people living with a disability, to help create a pipeline of graduates that better reflects the Australian population. The benefits of richer data should be weighed against the time, cost, and expertise required to develop, administer, and analyze a profession-specific survey.
