- Impact of COVID-19 on refractive amblyopia risk factors in 5-years-old children: A nationwide cross sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We observed a decrease in the prevalence of refractive amblyopia risk factors in an unscreened population of children in urban kindergartens over the past decade. Hyperopia, anisometropia, and astigmatism showed reductions during the post-COVID-19 period, while the myopia risk factor increased. These trends may reflect advances in diagnostic technology, greater public awareness, and the implementation of early vision screening, underscoring their importance.

- Factors associated with parents' self-reported familiarity with pediatric eye disorders in Jordan: a quantitative analysis of survey data from Jordanian parents. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Participating parents generally demonstrated positive attitudes toward pediatric eye care but showed important gaps in disease-specific and treatment-related knowledge. Several knowledge and treatment-related items were associated with self-reported familiarity, even after adjustment for participant characteristics. These findings identify potential targets for parental eye-health education but should not be interpreted as evidence of actual care-seeking behavior, treatment adherence, or clinical decision-making.

- Evaluation of the effect of patching therapy on dry eye tests and tear film osmolarity in children with amblyopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Although patching is considered the gold standard for managing amblyopia, its effects on ocular surface homeostasis remain unclear. In this sample, no statistically significant differences were observed in dry eye tests, tear osmolarity, or meibography findings, and no measurable adverse effect on ocular surface parameters was demonstrated. Daily patching duration was also not significantly associated with these parameters. Larger prospective studies are needed to evaluate potential long-term effects.

- Risk Factors of Residual Exotropia After Surgery in Patients with Intermittent and Sensory Exotropia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Residual exotropia after surgery is influenced by multiple patient- and surgery-related factors, particularly preoperative sensory status and early postoperative alignment, with a modest early overcorrection (a small postoperative esodeviation) associated with greater long-term stability. Intermittent and sensory exotropia differ in functional outcomes, underscoring the importance of individualized surgical planning and long-term follow-up. Standardized outcome definitions and prospective studies are needed to improve comparability and long-term outcome prediction.

- Long-Term Visual Acuity in Young Children After Lensectomy for Congenital Cataract. [Journal Article]
- (1) Background: Congenital cataract is a rare but severe childhood ocular disorder that can lead to permanent visual impairment if left untreated. Factors influencing long-term visual outcomes are insufficiently defined. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term visual outcomes after congenital cataract surgery and to identify factors associated with visual acuity impairment and reoperation…

- Practical Comparison of a Newly Developed Software-Based Visual Acuity Test and Photoscreening in Japanese Preschool Children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Assessment of both VA and refractive error provides complementary information for identifying potential vision impairment in young children. Practical VA testing is particularly important, as the SVS may not detect a substantial proportion of children with possible VA deficiency. These findings support the usefulness of child-friendly VA assessment tools in preschool vision screening.

- Changes in peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, macular fovea thickness, and perimacular retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in children with hyperopic amblyopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: OCT demonstrates progressive thickening of selected peripapillary and macular structural parameters with increasing amblyopia severity. These parameters may serve as objective adjunctive markers for severity assessment and follow-up in children with hyperopic amblyopia.

- Clinical features and biometric profile of patients presenting with unilateral high myopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Unilateral myopia in a samples Indian population presents unique clinical characteristics. Unilateral axial myopia in a patient should prompt us to take a detailed birth history and look for optic nerve abnormalities. Amblyopia is seen in a significant proportion of unilateral myopes, and their myopic progression was 0.74D/year in our cohort.

- Bilateral Brown's syndrome with Parry-Romberg syndrome: frozen gaze and fading face. [Journal Article]Strabismus. 2026 Sep 21; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]S
- Purpose: We report a rare case of bilateral Brown's syndrome associated with Parry-Romberg Syndrome (PRS), highlighting this rare syndromic association and its possible shared pathophysiology. Methods: An 8-year-old female presented with longstanding right-eye inward deviation and decreased vision in the right eye. Ocular examination revealed bilateral limitation of elevation in adduction, consis…

- Botulinum toxin injection versus conventional surgery in the management of residual esotropia: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]J AAPOS. 2026 Sep 19; :105299. [Online ahead of print]JA
- PurposeTo compare the success rates of botulinum toxin (BTX) injection and conventional strabismus surgery in treating residual esotropia. MethodsThis retrospective cohort study included patients with residual esotropia of >15[Δ] following strabismus surgery treated at a single instituion from 2015 to 2023. Patients were categorized into two groups based on intervention type: the surgery group an…

- Evaluation of optical coherence tomography findings according to treatment response in patients with amblyopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Although there was a difference in the macular inner temporal, RNFL SUP, and RNFL SN parameters when the control group and children who received amblyopia treatment were compared, there was no difference in OCT parameters in treatment responder and nonresponder children after amblyopia treatment. OCT parameters do not provide additional information about the response to treatment for amblyopia.

- Parents' perception of common childhood eye diseases: a community-based cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Parental awareness of childhood eye diseases in this community was variable, with some misconceptions and gaps in preventive practices. Knowledge levels were not associated with the sociodemographic variables assessed. Community-wide health education and school-based screening may help support earlier detection of childhood eye diseases.
