- Single-Stage Management of Cholecystocholedocholithiasis: Outcomes of Laparoendoscopic Rendezvous and Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration at Two Experienced Centers. [Journal Article]J Gastrointest Surg. 2026 Oct 13; :102633. [Online ahead of print]JG
- CONCLUSIONS: Both experienced centers achieved high ductal clearance and low postoperative morbidity using their established single-stage approach. Operative time and postoperative length of stay describe outcomes within each institutional practice; this design does not isolate the effect of either technique. Selection should consider biliary anatomy, stone characteristics, and team expertise.

- Initial Results from a Novel Video Cholangiopancreatoscope: An International Multicenter Study. [Journal Article]Endosc Int Open. 2026; 14:a29656616.EI
- Background Novel 8.9-Fr and 11-Fr digital cholangiopancreatoscopes (Scivita Medical) have recently become available in Europe, but data on technical performance and safety remain limited. We report initial real-world experience with the Scivita platform. Methods This international, multicenter, retrospective cohort study included consecutive patients undergoing digital single-operator cholangiosc…

- Clinical Course of Temporary Internal Biliary Stents after Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Journal Article]J Laparoendosc Adv Surg Tech A. 2026 Oct 12; :10926429261497072. [Online ahead of print]JL
- CONCLUSIONS: Temporary internal stents usually pass spontaneously after LCBDE, although performance varies across devices and settings. When passage has not been documented, approximately 1 month is the best-supported verification checkpoint. Persistent, migrated, or symptomatic stents warrant targeted evaluation and early endoscopic consultation. This pathway is evidence-informed rather than a formal guideline recommendation. Given the predominantly East Asian evidence base, validation in other populations is required.

- Solitary splenosis mimicking retroperitoneal tumor: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Isolated splenosis in the right retroperitoneum at the upper pole of the right kidney is a very rare entity that mimics a retroperitoneal tumor. Splenosis should be suspected in patients with prior splenic trauma or splenectomy who present with unusual soft-tissue masses to avoid misdiagnosis and redundant surgery.

- Outcomes of laparoendoscopic rendezvous for cholecysto-choledocolithiasis: A single series of 389 cases from a teaching hospital in Santiago, Chile. [Journal Article]Cir Esp (Engl Ed). 2026 Oct 08; :800404. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: The LERV procedure is a safe, feasible, and efficient tool for treating cholecysto-choledocholithiasis. When guided ERCP cannulation was not achieved, inferior intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were observed.

- The biliary microbiome in symptomatic cholelithiasis: a prospective comparison across distinct bacterial niches. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive multi-niche analysis demonstrates pronounced taxonomic and predicted functional compartmentalization of bacterial communities across saliva, bile, gallstones, and faeces in patients with cholelithiasis. Diagnosis-associated alterations were predominantly observed within biliary niches, with Escherichia/Shigella emerging as a consistent taxon associated with inflammatory biliary disease. These findings identify anatomical niche as a major determinant of bacterial community structure and support disease-associated alterations within the biliary microbiome.

- Lemmels's syndrome is obstructive jaundice due to periampullary duodenal diverticula in the absence of a neoplasm or choledocholithiasis. The aim of this study is to present our 15-year experience on this rare pathology. Endoscopy, imaging, and histopathology records of all the patients with obstructive jaundice who were managed in surgical unit 3 in our institute between January 2010 and Decembe…

- Iatrogenic portobiliary fistula treated with covered stent following percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. [Case Reports]
- Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) is a common interventional radiology (IR) procedure typically used in the treatment of biliary obstruction when an endoscopic approach has failed or is not technically feasible. PTBD has a low overall complication rate with the Society of Interventional Radiology suggesting adverse event thresholds of 10% for major complications, 5.7% for hemorrha…

- Successful Cholangioscopy-Guided Stone Extraction in a Choledocholithiasis Patient With Afferent Loop Stenosis After Pancreaticoduodenectomy. [Case Reports]
- Choledocholithiasis after pancreaticoduodenectomy is difficult to manage because surgically altered anatomy limits conventional endoscopic access. This difficulty is compounded when afferent loop stenosis is present. We report a 53-year-old man with a previous pancreaticoduodenectomy who presented with abdominal pain and fever. Imaging revealed common bile duct stones. During endoscopic retrograd…

- CLINICAL PREDICTORS OF CHOLEDOCHOLITHIASIS IN MILD ACUTE BILIARY PANCREATITIS: DEVELOPMENT OF AN EXPLORATORY RISK STRATIFICATION MODEL. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A simple clinical prediction model based on older age, persistent bilirubin elevation, and elevated alkaline phosphatase demonstrated acceptable discrimination to associate choledocholithiasis in patients with mild acute biliary pancreatitis and reasonable internal calibration after bootstrap validation, with particular usefulness for identifying patients at low probability of choledocholithiasis.

- Cholecystocolonic Fistula With Acute Cholangitis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115423.C
- Cholecystocolonic fistula (CCF) is a rare type of cholecystoenteric fistula, which are sometimes diagnosed incidentally in patients undergoing cholecystectomy. They are usually a complication of chronic cholecystitis, often secondary to gallstones, and they are difficult to diagnose due to their rarity and vague clinical presentation. If untreated, they can lead to complications such as acute cho…

- Cholecystoduodenal Fistula, Gallstone Ileus, and Choledocholithiasis: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Journal Article]
- Prompt diagnosis using CT is critical in gallstone ileus, as symptoms are often nonspecific. A combined surgical approach-comprising enterolithotomy, cholecystectomy, and fistula repair-effectively addresses both the obstruction and its underlying source, achieving favorable outcomes even in complex presentations.

- Necrotizing pancreatitis is a severe complication of acute pancreatitis that may not become radiographically evident until several days after symptom onset. Although progression from gallstone pancreatitis is well recognized, concurrent postoperative complications and Clostridioides difficile infection can obscure the clinical picture and delay diagnosis. This case adds to the literature by demon…

- Negative Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography: Incidence, Predictors, and Clinical Consequences-A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. [Review]
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is widely used for the management of suspected biliary disease; however, a proportion of procedures yield no therapeutic findings, exposing patients to avoidable risks. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the incidence, predictors, and clinical consequences of negative ERCP. A structured review was conducted in accordance with P…
