- Quantitative assessment of specific bacterial taxa of the intestinal microbiota of healthy and diarrheic horses. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study reports changes in bacterial taxa across various colitis phenotypes and indicates that this approach could serve as a faster, cost-effective proxy for detecting dysbiosis in the gastrointestinal tract of horses.

- Capsulectomy at Explant: Rethinking Spinal Cord Stimulator Infected Generator Pocket Management in the Immunocompromised-A Case Series. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: These cases suggest capsulectomy during SCS explantation may mitigate complications, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Current guidelines recommend capsule debridement but do not routinely address capsulectomy; its use may improve infection resolution in high-risk populations, perhaps by eliminating biofilm associated with the capsule.

- Antibiotic Stewardship in Nonoperative Facial Trauma: Necessary or Not? [Systematic Review]South Med J. 2026 Oct 02; 119(10):637-642.SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Available evidence does not support routine systemic prophylaxis for uncomplicated closed, nonoperative facial fractures. The strongest inference applies to patients without another indication for antibiotics. Current data do not identify fracture-specific subgroups in whom prophylaxis improves outcomes; accordingly, management should emphasize local care, return precautions, and structured follow-up.

- Brachyspira hyodysenteriae detected in a dog with acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case suggests that Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, traditionally regarded as a swine-specific pathogen, may contribute to gastrointestinal disease in dogs. However, because confirmatory bacterial culture was not performed and multiple enteropathogens were detected concurrently, a definitive association between Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and the observed haemorrhagic diarrhoea cannot be established. Nevertheless, it highlights the importance of considering Brachyspira hyodysenteriae in unexplained cases of infectious diarrhoea in dogs, particularly regarding mixed infections. These findings also raise concerns regarding potential interspecies transmission and associated biosecurity risks. Further research is warranted to enhance understanding of diagnostic strategies, treatment approaches and antibiotic resistance patterns.

- Probable everolimus-associated severe colitis with hematochezia in a patient with metastatic hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1871050.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Probable everolimus-associated severe colitis should be considered when patients receiving mTOR inhibitors develop acute abdominal pain, diarrhea, or gastrointestinal bleeding. Because histopathological findings may be non-specific, diagnosis requires integration of drug exposure, objective evidence of intestinal inflammation, careful exclusion of competing etiologies, and clinical evolution following withdrawal of the suspected agent.

- Duration of antibiotic therapy in sepsis and severe infections in critically ill patients. [Journal Article]Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Antibiotic treatment duration in critically ill patients has undergone major reevaluation. Historically concerns for short therapy included a lower cure rate and emergence of resistance, whereas prolonged courses raised risks of microbiome disruption, superinfection, Clostridioides difficile colitis, and resistance. Defining optimal duration of therapy in sepsis and severe infections remains chal…

- Probiotic Intervention With Bacillus coagulans and Lactobacillus acidophilus in Small Animals Experimental Ulcerative Colitis: Insights From a Small Animal Model. [Journal Article]
- Inflammatory bowel disease is a significant health concern not only in humans but also in companion animals and livestock, where it manifests as chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and mucosal injury. Probiotics have gained increasing attention as potential therapeutic agents due to their immunomodulatory effects and ability to restore intestinal homeostasis. This study investigated the therapeuti…

- Adzuki Bean Peptide Prevents DSS-Induced Colitis by Modulating the Gut Microbiota. [Journal Article]
- Background: The incidence of ulcerative colitis (UC) continues to rise, and food-derived bioactive peptides have attracted increasing attention as potential nutritional interventions for intestinal inflammation. This study investigated the preventive effects of the adzuki bean-derived peptide IFNNDPNNHP (IP10 peptide) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced acute colitis in mice and explored the …

- Whole-Genome Sequencing Analysis of ST1, ST11, ST17, and ST37 Clostridioidesdifficile Lineages from a Korean Hospital. [Journal Article]
- Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis and remains one of the most common healthcare-associated infections. Clostridioides difficile sequence types 1 and 11 (ST1 and ST11), which belong to multilocus sequence typing (MLST) clades 2 and 5, respectively, are widely recognized as epidemic-associated lineages. Both line…

- Crohn's Disease Presenting as an Abdominal Wall Abscess in an Adolescent With Autism Spectrum Disorder. [Journal Article]
- Crohn's disease (CD) is a subtype of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by discontinuous lesions and transmural inflammation. Delayed diagnosis may lead to fistula formation between the intestine and adjacent organs. However, most CD-associated fistulas are enteroenteric or perianal, and abdominal wall abscesses are rarely reported in pediatric patients. We report a case of CD presenting as…

- Schisandra chinensis alleviates dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in association with remodeling of a Parabacteroides goldsteinii-related leucine-isovalerate metabolic axis and attenuation of mTOR/HIF-1α/IL-17 signaling. [Journal Article]
- Ulcerative colitis (UC) involves epithelial injury, gut microbial dysbiosis, disturbed microbial metabolism, and mucosal inflammation. This study evaluated the protective effect of Schisandra chinensis (SC) against dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced UC and investigated the underlying microbiota-metabolite-host signaling mechanism. UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS identified 38 constituents in SC, predominantly…

- Bifidobacteria and Clostridioides difficile infection: review of emerging therapeutic perspectives. [Review]Anaerobe. 2026 Sep 23; :103085. [Online ahead of print]A
- Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) remains a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and colitis, with a high rate of recurrence. Current CDI treatments rely largely on antibiotics that perpetuate dysbiosis or on microbiota-based interventions with limited accessibility, emphasizing the need to explore novel, targeted microbiota-derived therapies. Probiotics have emerged as a potentia…

- Therapeutic effect of ginseng: a non-antibiotic approach to preventing pathogenic bacterial infections and restoring gut microbiota composition. [Review]
- Human health is influenced by various factors, including bacteria that surround us ubiquitously. Bacteria constituting normal microbiota of various human body niches, primarily the gut, can confer beneficial effects by aiding food digestion, improving nutrient production, and preventing pathogen colonization. However, bacteria can also have harmful effects as pathogens, especially when the immune…

- Plant polysaccharides are functional carbohydrates with diverse structures and close interactions with the gut microbiota. Here, a low-molecular-weight neutral carbohydrate fraction, SMP-1, was isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza and characterized for molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, linkage features, and selected NMR correlations. SMP-1 showed an apparent molecular weight of approxima…
