  • Polymerization Enhancers for Cyanoacrylate Skin Adhesive. [Journal Article]
Macromol Biosci. 2021 Oct; 21(10):e2100143.Kumar A, Domb AJMB
  • Cyanoacrylate glues are a renowned synthetic tissue sealant that cures rapidly through polymerization at room temperature, felicitating medical glues to treat skin wounds and surgical openings. Despite a wide range of cyanoacrylates available, only 2-octyl cyanoacrylates (OCA) provides the best biocompatibility. In this study, the polymerization and adhesive properties of 2-octyl cyanoacrylates (…
  • Pediatric sutureless circumcision: an effective and cost efficient alternative. [Journal Article]
    Can J Urol. 2015 Oct; 22(5):7995-9.Voznesensky M, Mutter C, … Jumper BCJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: The use of 2-OCA tissue adhesive for sutureless circumcision is an alternative to the standard technique. It results in faster operative times, with a significant cost savings, while maintaining comparable complication rates to the standard suture technique. This is a viable, less expensive surgical option for patients whose circumcisions are not covered by Medicaid.
  • Mechanical properties of the skin: a comparison between two suction cup methods. [Clinical Trial]
Skin Res Technol. 2003 May; 9(2):111-5.Pedersen L, Hansen B, Jemec GBSR
  • CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that both methods are useful in the study of the mechanical aspects of the skin, especially for detecting age-related changes. The Dermaflex seems to produce more accurate for data. This is thought to be due to the conceptual design differences between the two methods. The methods measure related but not identical values of the mechanical properties of the skin, as reflected by the limited positive correlation between them.
  • The mechanical properties of skin in osteogenesis imperfecta. [Journal Article]
Arch Dermatol. 2002 Jul; 138(7):909-11.Hansen B, Jemec GBAD
  • CONCLUSIONS: The skin of patients with OI is more stiff and less elastic than normal skin. It is speculated that similar differences may be found in other tissues in patients with OI. The results potentially offer a quantitative standardized measure of OI, which may further our understanding of the underlying physical problems of these patients, provide better case definitions, and assist in predicting the prognosis of patients with OI.
  • Measurement of the mechanical properties of skin with ballistometer and suction cup. [Journal Article]
Skin Res Technol. 2001 May; 7(2):122-6.Jemec GB, Selvaag E, … Wulf HCSR
  • CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that while both methods may be useful, they describe related but not identical aspects of skin mechanics. The differences in measuring principle suggest that the suction cup method predominantly measures elasticity, while the ballistometer predominantly appears to measure stiffness. Hysteresis may be a unique measure of skin viscosity. Additional studies, however, are needed to specify the clinical significance of the various measures of skin mechanics.
  • Moisturisers for psoriatic skin--do gross morphological differences matter? [Clinical Trial]
Skin Pharmacol Appl Skin Physiol. 2001 Jan-Feb; 14(1):20-6.Kynemund L, Jemec GB, Wulf HCSP
  • Studies suggest that moisturisers have a beneficial effect on psoriasis, and their use in preventive or adjuvant dermatological therapy is therefore of considerable clinical interest, although no classification of these products exists to guide their use. We have previously suggested a classification based on the ability of moisturisers to induce mechanical changes in normal skin. In psoriasis pa…
  • Plasticising effect of water and glycerin on human skin in vivo. [Journal Article]
J Dermatol Sci. 1999 Jan; 19(1):48-52.Pedersen LK, Jemec GBJD
  • Application of water and glycerin is known to influence skin mechanics. The kinetics of these processes are of great interest. A study was performed to show the immediate changes in skin-mechanics. A Dermaflex machine (R) was used to study 23 healthy volunteers. Water or glycerin was applied to the flexorside of the forearm, and readings were made after 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 min. Regional untreated …
