  • [Volontary poisoning with yew (Taxus baccata) : a fatal case]. [Case Reports]
Rev Med Liege. 2026 Jul; 81(7-8):471-474.Ait Moussa N, Delcour A, … Lambermont BRM
  • Poisoning with Taxus baccata (common yew) is a life-threatening emergency due to its major cardiotoxicity. The taxines it contains block cardiac sodium channels, rapidly leading to severe arrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, and often cardiac arrest. Management is exclusively symptomatic and relies on intensive hemodynamic support, including advanced resuscitation and, in some cases, the use of extrac…
  • Human Deaths Related to Oleander Poisoning: A Review of the Literature. [Review]
    Toxins (Basel). 2025 Mar 01; 17(3).Sacco MA, Gualtieri S, … Aquila IT
  • Oleander poisoning, resulting from the ingestion of Nerium oleander or Thevetia peruviana, is a serious toxicological issue in various parts of the world, particularly in regions where these plants grow abundantly and are easily accessible. Oleander contains potent cardiac glycosides, such as oleandrin and thevetin, which exert powerful effects on the cardiovascular system, leading to symptoms ra…
  • Should digoxin immune fab be administered based solely on reported ingested amount in acute digoxin poisoning? [Case Reports]
Am J Emerg Med. 2025 Mar; 89:309.e3-309.e6.Cole JB, Pepin LC, … Bilden EFAJ
  • Acute digoxin poisoning is increasingly uncommon in emergency medicine. Furthermore, controversy exists regarding indications for antidotal digoxin immune fab in acute poisoning. In healthy adults, the fab prescribing information recommends administration based on "known consumption of fatal doses of digoxin: ≥10mg," while many emergency medicine textbooks suggest fab administration be driven by …
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Digoxin Immune Fab [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • No information is available on the clinical use of digoxin immune fab (ovine) during breastfeeding. Because it is a large protein molecule with a molecular weight of about 46,000 Da, the amount in milk is likely to be very low and absorption is unlikely because it is probably destroyed in the infant's gastrointestinal tract.
  • Expert Consensus on the Diagnosis and Management of Digoxin Toxicity. [Systematic Review]
    Am J Med. 2025 Jan; 138(1):25-33.e14.Hack JB, Wingate S, … Hauptman PJAJ
  • While there has been a decline in the use of digoxin in patients with heart failure and atrial fibrillation, acute and chronic digoxin toxicity remains a significant clinical problem. Digoxin's narrow therapeutic window and nonspecific signs and symptoms of toxicity create clinical challenges and uncertainty around the diagnostic criteria of toxicity and responsive treatment choices for the bedsi…
  • Not only Van Gogh: a case of BRASH syndrome with concomitant digoxin toxicity. [Case Reports]
    J Med Case Rep. 2024 Jun 09; 18(1):273.Costantini I, Mantelli G, … Ricci GJM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Bradycardia, renal failure, atrioventricular (AV) node blocking, shock, and hyperkalemia syndrome is a life-threatening condition that requires prompt management. It is important to also consider potential coexisting clinical manifestations indicative of intoxication from other pharmacological agents. Specifically, symptoms associated with the accumulation of drugs eliminated via the kidneys, such as digoxin. These manifestations may warrant targeted therapeutic measures.
  • Deliberate Self-Poisoning with Plants in Southeastern France, a Poison Center 20-Year Report. [Review]
    Toxins (Basel). 2023 Nov 24; 15(12).Torrents R, Reynoard J, … Simon NT
  • CONCLUSIONS: The first involved species was Nerium oleander (71% of all plants poisonings), then Datura sp and Ricinus communis. It is explained by this native local species' important repartition. Most patients must be admitted to an emergency department for adapted medical care; however, only 41 of them described severe poisonings symptoms. Even fewer needed an antidote, only 20 patients. There is no protocol for the use of a specific treatment, and it might be interesting to develop one for this purpose.
