- Initial nebulized budesonide versus a local off-label nebulized dexamethasone protocol in children with institution-defined grade III croup receiving epinephrine: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1948559.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Initial nebulized budesonide was associated with faster documented recovery than the local off-label nebulized-dexamethasone protocol after adjustment for measured pretreatment variables. This comparison does not address standard oral, intramuscular, or intravenous dexamethasone therapy and should be interpreted as an adjusted observational association.

- Adrenomedullary Organoids Derived from Neural Crest and Schwann Cell Precursors. [Journal Article]Res Sq. 2026 Aug 11.RS
- The adrenal gland, essential for survival, contains the medulla and cortex. Chromaffin cells (ChrCs) in the adrenal medulla control the fight-or-flight response by releasing catecholamines like epinephrine and norepinephrine. Recent findings reveal that ChrCs originate from two progenitors: 20% from developmentally early, neural crest-derived sympathoadrenal progenitors (SAPs) and 80% from the la…

- Tumescent Versus Non-Tumescent Technique in Split-Thickness Skin-Graft Harvesting: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Journal Article]Adv Skin Wound Care. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]AS
- CONCLUSIONS: The tumescent technique is associated with clinically meaningful reductions in donor-site blood loss, hematoma formation, postoperative analgesic requirements, and time to epithelialization, without adversely affecting graft take. The consistency of the effect direction supports its role as a safe and effective donor-site strategy.

- Hornet Sting-Induced Type I Kounis Syndrome Presenting as a Non-ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115847.C
- Kounis syndrome is an acute coronary syndrome triggered by an allergic or anaphylactic reaction. Diagnosis can be challenging when epinephrine is administered during the same episode because both the allergic reaction and epinephrine may influence coronary vascular tone. We report the case of a 62-year-old man with no previous cardiac history who developed anaphylactic shock after a hornet sting …

- Thiamethoxam Exposure Impairs Neuromuscular Function through Thyroid Hormone-Linked Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Pelophylax nigromaculatus. [Journal Article]Environ Pollut. 2026 Oct 06; :129301. [Online ahead of print]EP
- Rice-paddy amphibians are routinely exposed to neonicotinoids, yet whether such exposure causes endocrine, mitochondrial, and neuromuscular toxicity remains poorly understood. Herein, we combined field surveillance across 39 rice-paddy sites in Zhejiang, China, with a 60-day exposure of adult Pelophylax nigromaculatus to thiamethoxam. Field monitoring in July detected all five neonicotinoids in 6…

- Incidence, Process of Care, and Outcomes of In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest in China: A Multicenter Prospective Registry Study. [Journal Article]Circulation. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Circ
- CONCLUSIONS: This multicenter registry highlights a substantial burden of IHCA in China, with markedly low survival rates. Despite prompt initial resuscitation, critical gaps persist in postresuscitation care. Systemic and cultural factors, including the infrequent use of do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation orders, may further contribute to survival disparities. These findings suggest several system-level opportunities to improve IHCA outcomes, including structured response systems, optimized critical care resource allocation, and greater integration of advanced care planning.

- Combined Local Anesthetic Infiltration Versus Intrathecal Morphine for Postcesarean Analgesia: A Pilot Randomized Double-Blind Trial. [Journal Article]Eurasian J Med. 2026 Sep 21; 58(4):1-8.EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Twenty-four-hour opioid consumption and pain scores did not differ significantly between groups. Intrathecal morphine prolonged the time to first rescue opioid request, whereas LWI+RAI+IPLA caused less pruritus. Because this pilot study was not powered for equivalence or noninferiority and showed a floor effect in opioid consumption, larger adequately powered trials are needed. - The Benefits of Managing Anaphylaxis at Home. [Review]Immunol Allergy Clin North Am. 2026 Nov; 46(4):663-669.IA
- Based on current data, immediate activation of EMS in all cases of anaphylaxis does not provide significant benefit. Instead, the option for home management or a "watchful-waiting" approach allowing for increased patient autonomy in anaphylaxis management and emphasizing prompt epinephrine use at home. In this model, patients are instructed to quickly administer epinephrine and monitor for resolu…

- Music-STAR trial: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial to assess the impact of live and recorded music-based interventions on preoperative stress, mood, pain and biomarkers in neurosurgical patients. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 Oct 05; 16(10):e110925.BO
- Neurosurgical patients commonly experience significant preoperative anxiety, which can negatively impact surgical outcomes and recovery trajectories. Music, as a powerful neurophysiological modulator of the human stress response, offers a non-pharmacological, non-invasive and cost-effective approach to anxiolysis by stabilising the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and autonomic nervous system.…

- Pediatric Pheochromocytoma With Rapid Cyclic Blood Pressure Fluctuations: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- Cyclic blood pressure fluctuations in pheochromocytoma are extremely rare, and previously reported cases have been limited to adults. We report a 5-year-old boy with von Hippel-Lindau disease and a left adrenal pheochromocytoma who developed rapid cyclic blood pressure fluctuations immediately after tracheal intubation. Despite preoperative doxazosin (titrated from 0.5 to 3 mg/day over 27 days) a…

- Assessment of Prehospital Emergency Personnel's Knowledge in Pediatric Anaphylaxis Management. [Journal Article]Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2026 Aug 12; 25(Sup 11):54-64.IJ
- Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressing, and potentially life-threatening emergency requiring prompt, evidence-based intervention. This study assessed pre-hospital emergency healthcare professionals' knowledge of anaphylaxis diagnosis, acute management, and treatment protocols in line with current clinical guidelines. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between February and Apr…

- Environmental heat stress is an emerging ecological problem, yet the physiological mechanisms linking repeated heat exposure to cardiovascular disease risk remain incompletely understood. Here, we investigated the systemic, cardiovascular, metabolic, and immune consequences of intermittent environmental heat stress. C57BL/6J Mice were exposed to intermittent hyperthermia (30°C-37°C, 3 h/day, 4 da…

This review compares tourniquet-based and epinephrine-based hemostasis regarding mechanisms, safety, effectiveness, and outcomes. Tourniquets provide reliable visualization, partic…
