- Epidemiology of helminth infections in adults in rural rainforest communities of the Nkam-Wouri River Basin, Littoral Region of Cameroon: Implications for NTDs elimination using preventive chemotherapies. [Journal Article]PLoS Negl Trop Dis. 2026 Oct 09; 20(10):e0014780. [Online ahead of print]PN
- CONCLUSIONS: Adult helminth infections pose a public health risk and may serve as transmission reservoirs in child-centred programs. Monitoring and including adults in preventive chemotherapy programs, promoting regular deworming and awareness and using a multi-parasite, multi-pathway strategy will strengthen control and elimination efforts in persistently endemic areas.

- Population pharmacokinetics modeling of albendazole and its active metabolite, albendazole sulfoxide in mass drug administration against lymphatic filariasis. [Journal Article]Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2026 Oct 08; :e0056226. [Online ahead of print]AA
- Albendazole (ALB), a benzimidazole antiparasitic, is widely used in mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns against lymphatic filariasis (LF). It is rapidly metabolized to its active form, albendazole sulfoxide (ALB-OX), which exhibits considerable interindividual variability (IIV) in pharmacokinetics (PK). This variation may affect ALB efficacy in MDA programs. We developed a population pharmac…

- Pathology-specific carcass weight penalties and economic losses in slaughtered pigs from Cameroon's Western Highlands: an abattoir surveillance study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Routine abattoir surveillance provides a useful operational framework for estimating visible lesions and local economic losses. Strategic deworming and systematic erysipelas vaccination are recommended as high-priority interventions in tropical pig production systems.

- Climate Change and Socioeconomic Vulnerability: The Carpathian Basin as a Potential Hotspot in the Dissemination of Dirofilaria repens in Europe. [Journal Article]
- Dirofilaria repens is a zoonotic parasite expanding across Europe due to climate change. We hypothesised that in this process, the Carpathian Basin has a facilitating effect. Using 426 georeferenced European cases, the probability of infection occurrence was determined in relation to climatic factors, surface water availability, regional social deprivation, and stray dog population density. To an…

- Spatial Clustering of Lymphatic Filariasis in Relation to Potential Mansonia Mosquito Habitats in Endemic Communities of Belitung Regency, Indonesia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Filariasis cases in Belitung tend to cluster near potential Mansonia habitats. These findings provide programme planners with a quantitative basis for prioritizing habitat-focused interventions alongside ongoing mass drug administration. Direct entomological surveys are still needed to confirm vector presence and test the effectiveness of spatially targeted control.

- Operational research for strengthening leadership and advancing universal health coverage in India. [Editorial]
- This issue of Public Health Action includes a series of articles on 'Research leadership in India', a Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT IT), led by TDR, as a model for strengthening operational research capacity within health systems globally. Conducted in 19 institutions in India, it transforms frontline health challenges into research that informs policy and practice…

- Microfilaremic loiasis is associated with T cell hyporesponsiveness against SARS-CoV-2. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that microfilaremic loiasis may impair proinflammatory T cell responses to viral antigens, highlighting the need for further research into the broader immunological effects of Loa loa infection in endemic populations.

- Pan filarial-nested PCR with gelified tubes: a new approach towards point-of-care testing for human filariasisFIRST REVIEW ROUND - REVIEWERS' COMMENTSREVIEWERS' COMMENTS. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The assay proved to be effective for diagnosing single-species infections, even in cases with very low microfilaremia; however, its performance in identifying mixed infections was reduced, particularly when one species was present in much higher abundance than the other. Although not yet feasible as a fully deployable POCT, this study demonstrates the potential of integrating gelification with PCR for human filariasis diagnosis.

- Developing a scoring tool for assessing adherence to morbidity management and disability prevention (MMDP) practices in patients with filarial lymphedema: A pilot study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study marks the first development and validation of a scoring system to assess adherence to MMDP practices in patients with filarial lymphedema. The tool proved useful in effectively identifying individuals with suboptimal adherence. However, further validation is required in a greater number of patients in a prospective manner and in different geographical and epidemiological settings.

- CONCLUSIONS: Reduction of DOX from 200 to 100 mg daily facilitates implementation of this regimen, by aligning it to other regimens using 100 mg daily with a larger safety profile. The results also indicate that a combination of antiwolbachials might deliver effective regimens with shorter treatment times. Finally, the ability to predict 20-month end points of the slow-acting antiwolbachials by using Wolbachia depletion at 6 months will accelerate follow-up end points earlier than macrofilaricidal end points.

- Secreted filarial acetylcholine analogs modulate parasite reproduction and host physiology. [Journal Article]
- Lymphatic filariasis, caused by Brugia malayi, leads to chronic lymphatic dysfunction and lymphedema. The molecular mechanisms underlying interactions between filarial worms and their hosts remain poorly understood. Using untargeted metabolomics, we identify previously unknown acetylcholine analogs synthesized from leucine and isoleucine that are secreted by Brugia adult males. In the mammalian h…

- CONCLUSIONS: The evidence base for imported MBIDs reveals major asymmetries across diseases, outcomes, geographies, and populations, limiting evidence-based management of viral MBIDs, sustaining reliance on symptom-based approaches, and overlooking vulnerable populations.

- Stomoxys as vectors of Stephanofilaria dinniki in rhinoceros. [Journal Article]J Helminthol. 2026 Sep 29; 100:e129.JH
- We took advantage of rhinoceros translocations and entomological studies in the 1990s to elucidate some aspects of the biology of Stephanofilaria in Kenya, which remains largely undocumented. Blood samples from 88 black and 27 white rhinos were screened for microfilariae during routine haematology. Microfilariae matching S. dinniki were found in three individual black rhinos on single occasions a…
