- Recurrent Hypoglycemia and Hypercalcemia As Presenting Features of CD30-Positive Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma, Not Otherwise Specified. [Case Reports]
- Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS), is an aggressive mature T-cell neoplasm that may present with nonspecific systemic and metabolic abnormalities. A 73-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus presented with progressive weakness, altered mental status, recurrent hypoglycemia, and hypercalcemia, accompanied by acute kidney injury, pancytopenia, diffuse lymphadenopath…

- Calcium dysregulation in small animals: When is it an emergency? [Review]Can Vet J. 2026 Nov; 67(11):1225-1236.CV
- Calcium is essential for neuromuscular signaling, cardiovascular stability, and metabolic regulation. Disturbances in calcium homeostasis can exacerbate critical illness in small animal patients, whereas more profound abnormalities are associated with life-threatening complications. Although not frequently encountered, both hypocalcemia and hypercalcemia require rapid recognition and targeted the…
- A Case of Radical Resection of a Mediastinal Invasive Parathyroid Tumor via a Thoracoscopic Approach. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: The thoracoscopic approach may be a useful and safe strategy for treating parathyroid tumors that extend into the mediastinum, facilitating precise mobilization and en bloc resection without capsular rupture. Hence, a combined approach may enhance both the safety and curative potential of surgery in selected cases of parathyroid tumors with mediastinal extension.

- Parathyroid Surgery After Kidney Transplantation: Operative Extent, Biochemical Outcomes, and Early Morbidity in a Contemporary Single-Center Series. [Journal Article]Transplant Proc. 2026 Oct 28. [Online ahead of print]TP
- CONCLUSIONS: In this small heterogeneous series, early hypocalcemia occurred only after total procedures, with a prolonged course in 1 patient. Follow-up calcium-PTH patterns varied across patients and renal-function states. These observations do not establish the superiority of either operative strategy.

- Automated laboratory detection of hypercalcemia: Diagnostic yield, clinical pathway and outcomes in a real-world cohort. [Journal Article]Bone. 2026 Oct 28; 215:118144. [Online ahead of print]BONE
- CONCLUSIONS: Automated laboratory case-finding can identify patients with previously unrecognized persistent hypercalcemia and provide an entry point for subsequent etiological evaluation. PHPT was the predominant diagnosis within the fully evaluated cohort, although post-detection selection must be considered when interpreting this proportion. The prolonged diagnostic pathway and substantial healthcare use observed after the initial laboratory alert highlight the need to link automated detection strategies to structured clinical follow-up.

- Real-world biochemical control in Chinese adult-onset hypoparathyroidism patients. [Journal Article]Endocr Connect. 2026 Oct 28. [Online ahead of print]EC
- Hypoparathyroidism(HypoPT) is rare, and real-world studies of biochemical control in affected patients are limited. This study aimed to analyze biochemical control in a large cohort of patients with adult-onset chronic HypoPT. Subjects were selected from outpatients followed at our center from June 2009 to March 2023. Proportion of measurements in/above/below the target range (MIR/MAR/MBR) and es…

- Long-term follow-up revealed hypocalciuric hypercalcemia in a patient initially treated for primary hyperparathyroidism. [Case Reports]
- In patients with hypercalcemia and normal or mildly elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, distinguishing primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) from hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (HH) is crucial. We describe a 70-year-old woman who underwent parathyroidectomy for PHPT at 58 years old. Despite surgery, she remained asymptomatic with persistent hypercalcemia, normal phosphate levels, 25-hydroxyvitam…

- Parathyroid Hormone-related Peptide Is a Better Indicator of Cancer Treatment Efficacy Than Serum Calcium. [Case Reports]Anticancer Res. 2026 Nov; 46(11):6451-6456.AR
- CONCLUSIONS: In progressive malignancy, PTHrP detected by immunoassay may increase even when serum calcium normalizes or declines. This case suggests that serial PTHrP levels may be more informative than serum calcium alone for assessing anticancer treatment efficacy in PTHrP-mediated hypercalcemia.

- CONCLUSIONS: Both hypocalcemia and hypercalcemia occurred in the setting of blood product and no blood product administration. Our study suggests that currently available assessment methods are inadequate for predicting the presence of a calcium derangement, both high and low.

- Thrombocytopenia Warrants Clinical Attention in Hospitalized Patients with Sarcoidosis. [Journal Article]
- Background: Long-term survival in sarcoidosis patients can be predicted by several clinical and laboratory parameters. Hypercalcemia serves as a predominant, negative prognostic factor. In the current study, we aimed to identify other patient characteristics influencing outcomes over a 10-year period. Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of hospitalized sarcoidosis patients in a large, tert…

- Case Report: Laser thermal ablation for severe primary hyperparathyroidism in a pregnant patient with MEN1 syndrome. [Case Reports]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1964081.FE
- Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) during pregnancy is a rare clinical entity associated with substantial maternal and fetal morbidity, particularly when complicated by severe hypercalcemia. We present the case of a 44-year-old multigravida at 27 + 5 weeks' gestation who presented with symptomatic, severe hypercalcemia (3.12 mmol/L), and acute kidney injury. Diagnostic evaluation confirmed bilate…

- "Paraneoplastic syndromes secondary to Νeuroendocrine Νeoplasms". [Journal Article]Endocr Rev. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]ER
- Paraneoplastic syndromes (PNS) represent uncommon but clinically significant manifestations of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) arising from ectopic hormone secretion, aberrant peptide processing, cytokine-mediated effects, or immune-mediated mechanisms. Although NENs are intrinsically capable of producing bioactive substances leading to PNS, the true prevalence of PNS in NENs remains uncertain an…

- RANK/RANKL/OPG Axis Expression and Response to Anti-RANKL Therapy in Gnathic Giant Cell Lesions: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The RANK/RANKL/OPG axis, driven by RANKL-secreting mononuclear stromal cells, underlies osteolytic activity in gnathic giant cell lesions. Denosumab is an effective neoadjuvant bridge to jaw-preserving surgery but is not curative; a RANKL-independent, OPG-resistant SOFAT pathway has been hypothesized as one possible contributor to treatment failure, although this proposal is derived from a single external study and requires independent validation before any clinical inference is drawn. Close post-treatment metabolic and radiographic surveillance is warranted in pediatric patients. Prospective studies are needed to define optimal weaning protocols.
