- Life-Threatening Hypertriglyceridemia in Diabetic Ketoacidosis Successfully Managed With Therapeutic Plasma Exchange: A Case Report and Review of Literature. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115264.C
- Extremely severe hypertriglyceridemia associated with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), shock, cerebral edema, acute kidney injury (AKI), and pneumonia represents a rare but life-threatening clinical emergency, particularly when occurring as the initial presentation of previously undiagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM). In such critically ill patients, prompt management is challenging because clear evidenc…

- Iatrogenic Dextrose Hyperosmolar Extravasation Injury in Suspected Endogenous Hyperinsulinism. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115223.C
- Hyperosmolar dextrose infused through peripheral venous access can extravasate into surrounding soft tissue and produce local injury. We present the case of a 44-year-old woman with a history of seizure disorder and hyperlipidemia who underwent anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF). On the day of admission, she experienced a witnessed generalized seizure on the floor that terminated following a…

- Quantitative evaluation of the effect of hyperlipidemia on carotid artery stiffness in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using shear wave elastography. [Journal Article]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Sep 25; 105(39):e50829.M
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD), and hyperlipidemia (HLD) frequently coexists. Shear wave elastography (SWE) quantifies carotid stiffness and may improve CVD risk stratification. To evaluate the impact of HLD on carotid stiffness in T2DM using SWE. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 112 adults with T2DM: simple diabetes …

- Design, Synthesis and Antihyperglycemic/Antilipidemic Activities of Quinoline-thiazolidine-2,4-dione Hybrid. [Journal Article]Pharmaceuticals (Basel). 2026 Sep 19; 19(9).P
- Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hyperlipidemia are interrelated metabolic disorders that significantly increase cardiovascular risk. Thiazolidinediones are known insulin sensitizers, whereas quinoline derivatives possess diverse pharmacological activities. To explore their complementary activity, we designed a novel hybrid compound integrating a thiazolidinedione core with a quino…

- Identification of Hypolipidemic Constituents from Microctis folium Using an Integrated Strategy of Chemical Profiling, Pharmacokinetics, Network Pharmacology and Experimental Validation. [Journal Article]Pharmaceuticals (Basel). 2026 Aug 26; 19(9).P
- Background/Objective: Traditionally derived from the dried leaves of Microcos paniculata L., Microctis folium (M. folium) has been employed to manage various inflammatory and metabolic conditions. Despite its reported hypolipidemic potential, the active constituents contributing to this effect and their molecular mechanisms of action remain to be determined. Therefore, this study aimed to systema…

- Effects of Protocatechuic Acid on Endothelial Function and HDL Functionality in Hypercholesterolemic Subjects: A Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Nutrients. 2026 Sep 18; 18(18).N
- Background: High-density lipoprotein (HDL) exerts atheroprotective properties, partially by maintaining endothelial function. Protocatechuic acid (PCA) has been shown to improve endothelial function in mice. However, whether PCA improves endothelial function in humans is currently unknown. Our studies aimed to evaluate the effects of PCA on endothelial function and HDL concentration, subclass dis…

- Beyond Lipid Lowering: A Narrative Review and Expert Perspective on Precision Cardiovascular Prevention in People with HIV After REPRIEVE. [Review]Biomolecules. 2026 Aug 29; 16(9).B
- The spectrum of diseases in individuals with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) receiving successful antiretroviral therapy has evolved over time. In the past, they developed opportunistic infections and malignancies, whereas today, cardiovascular disease is among the most common causes of illness and premature death. Traditional risk factors for atherosclerosis (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smo…

- Machine Learning Triage of LDLR Variants of Uncertain Significance Using Predictor Concordance and ACMG-Aligned Evidence Mapping. [Journal Article]Genes (Basel). 2026 Aug 31; 17(9).G
- Background: Variants of uncertain significance (VUS) in the LDLR gene remain a major barrier to the molecular diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia. Although computational approaches offer scalable prioritization, their clinical utility is limited by predictor discordance, incomplete annotations, and inflated performance arising from variant-type imbalance. We aimed to develop a calibrated, …

- Hepatocyte-Specific Nrf2 Deficiency Alters Cholesterol Metabolism, Leading to Mitigated Atherosclerosis in ApoE-Knockout Mice. [Journal Article]Antioxidants (Basel). 2026 Sep 17; 15(9).A
- Hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia are major contributors to the pathogenesis and progression of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (NRF2) exerts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects while regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. However, the precise role and molecular mechanisms of NRF2 in hepatic cholesterol metabolism remain …

- Association between a body shape index and myocardial infarction: a cross-sectional analysis of NHANES data with mediation modeling. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: ABSI may demonstrate that it predicts MI independently and linearly in US adults. The relationship is largely mediated by metabolic conditions and is strongest among younger individuals and those with adverse lifestyle profiles. Adding ABSI to BMI may modestly improve MI risk stratification.

- Unlocking the Potential of Yellow Kepok Banana Peel Extract: An Innovative Solution for Treating Metabolic Disorders in Rabbits with Hyperlipidemia and DM. [Journal Article]Curr Diabetes Rev. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]CD
- CONCLUSIONS: Banana peel extracts showed potential as a supportive natural adjunct for improving glucose and lipid profiles in patients with diabetes mellitus. These findings suggest that extract- based natural products may improve metabolic control and reduce cardiovascular risk. Further studies are required to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and to confirm long-term safety and efficacy in clinical settings.

- All-cause mortality in statin-associated immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy compared with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy. [Journal Article]Rheumatology (Oxford). 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]R
- CONCLUSIONS: Statin-associated IMNM is associated with higher mortality than other myositis subtypes; this excess attenuates after adjustment for age and cardiometabolic comorbidity, indicating these pre-existing conditions identify a higher-risk clinical phenotype.

- Residual lipid-related proteomic and metabolomic signatures associated with major adverse cardiovascular events after revascularization in peripheral artery disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Integrated proteomic and metabolomic profiling revealed residual lipid-related molecular signatures beyond conventional lipid parameters in patients with PAD undergoing lower-extremity revascularization. These signatures were associated with subsequent MACE, supporting further validation of molecular biomarkers for postoperative cardiovascular risk stratification in PAD.
