- Ceramidase is involved in metabolic reprogramming of fibroblasts under hypoxia conditions. [Journal Article]Front Physiol. 2026; 17:1914022.FP
- Physiological metabolic reprogramming is a cells strategy to resist/counteract stress to preserve homeostasis. Hypoxia is an important stress stimulus that can promote tissue remodeling and fibrosis, in which alterations in sphingolipid metabolism may contribute to fibroblast responses. Here, we investigated the potential role of acid ceramidase (ASAH1), a key enzyme of the sphingolipid salvage p…

- Connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease: immune profiling and correlation of immune cells with pulmonary function in SSc-ILD. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2745489.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Peripheral blood immune profiling revealed distinct abnormalities across CTD-ILD subtypes. Peripheral Th cell expansion is strongly associated with lung function decline in SSc-ILD, highlighting the potential of Th cells as biomarkers of disease progression in SSc-ILD.

- Yoga Effect on Quality of Life Study Among Patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (YES-IPF). [Journal Article]Respir Med. 2026 Oct 14; :109194. [Online ahead of print]RM
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory pilot trial, a modified yoga program was feasible and well tolerated and was associated with improvements in selected patient-reported outcome domains. These findings are hypothesis-generating and warrant evaluation in a larger, adequately powered trial.

- Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema during acute exacerbation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: a case report. [Case Reports]Respir Med Case Rep. 2026; 64:102506.RM
- Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema are uncommon complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We report the case of a 74-year-old man with advanced IPF and long-term oxygen dependence who was hospitalised because of acute exacerbation of IPF. During hospitalisation, he developed acute chest discomfort, cervical swelling, and facial swelling. Physical examination reve…

- Absolute and lung volume-normalized deep learning-derived pulmonary vascular measures in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: distinct clinical associations and the role of lung volume in prognosis. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1833470.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Normalized and absolute pulmonary vascular metrics capture different aspects of IPF, with normalized measures associated with fibrosis burden and functional impairment, while absolute vascular volumes were associated with mortality, although this association was substantially attenuated after accounting for WLV. Absolute vascular volume may therefore partly reflect preserved lung volume rather than an independent prognostic effect. Prospective validation is warranted.

- Interstitial lung disease exacerbations following initiation of nerandomilast: A case series. [Case Reports]
- Nerandomilast is a novel PDE4 inhibitor approved for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF). This case series reports 5 patients with an acute exacerbation of IPF or PPF within 2 weeks of administration of nerandomilast. One patient was on background nintedanib and none were on pirfenidone at the time of the exacerbation. All exacerbations we…

- Thrombocytopenia: from physiological homeostasis imbalance to mechanism-driven precision diagnosis and therapy. [Review]
- Thrombocytopenia is not a monolithic disease but a common final pathway of disrupted platelet homeostasis spanning production, clearance, and distribution. The traditional count-centric paradigm, relying on empirical transfusion or steroid administration, frequently obscures underlying mechanistic drivers. This review advances a framework progressing from physiological homeostasis imbalance throu…

- MMP-7 as a non-invasive biomarker in interstitial lung diseases and other chronic respiratory diseases: a narrative review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: MMP-7 is best regarded as a marker of active fibrotic remodeling rather than of any single disease, with its clearest value in fibrosing ILD and within multimarker strategies rather than as a standalone test.

- Nedd4L-mediated stabilization of morphogenetic protein receptor 2 in lung fibroblasts confers protection against pulmonary fibrosis. [Journal Article]
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an interstitial lung disease that advances over time and is ultimately life-threatening. Despite advances in antifibrotic therapies, disease progression remains largely unavoidable, highlighting the necessity for advancing mechanistic research and identifying new therapeutic options. Bone morphogenetic protein receptor 2 (BMPR2) is a key receptor for BMP sig…

- Integrated transcriptomic and experimental analyses identify SRPK1/SRSF1 as a therapeutically relevant splicing regulatory axis in pulmonary fibrosis. [Journal Article]Cell Signal. 2026 Oct 12; 149:112917. [Online ahead of print]CS
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterized by progressive extracellular matrix deposition and irreversible distortion of lung architecture. We hypothesized that aberrant kinase-dependent splicing may contribute to IPF pathogenesis and offer an avenue for therapeutic intervention. We therefore analyzed multiple independent transcriptomic cohorts and found that SRPK1, compared with other …

[Journal Article]Quant Imaging Med Surg. 2026 Oct 01; 16(10):791.QI
- CONCLUSIONS: Two types of nomograms integrating multiregion radiomics, QCT, and clinical indicators demonstrated promising performance in distinguishing IPF from CTD-ILD and predicting ILD-GAP staging. When PFTs are unreliable or impracticable, the nomogram-GAP model may serve as a reliable marker for assessing ILD-GAP staging.
