- Telemedicine interventions after colorectal surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Colorectal Dis. 2026 Oct; 28(10):e70647.CD
- CONCLUSIONS: Telemedicine interventions may lead to little difference in readmissions or emergency department visits after colorectal surgery. Telemedicine may improve patient satisfaction versus usual care. Evidence was of low certainty, indicating a need for larger randomized trials and high-quality observational studies with appropriate design and analysis to minimize confounding.

- Left Ventricular Functional Improvement is Associated With Lower Morbidity and Mortality During Long-Term Mechanical Circulatory Support: An STS Intermacs Analysis. [Journal Article]J Card Fail. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: In a large multicenter LVAD cohort, LV functional response to durable support spanned a spectrum, with ∼1 in 8 (12%) durable LVAD recipients achieving a maximum post-implant LVEF ≥40% after ≥6 months of support. Higher post-implant LVEF was independently associated with improved survival and fewer HF-related events. These findings support viewing myocardial improvement during LVAD support as a clinically meaningful target that affects positively the outcomes of patients while being on mechanical support.

- Prominent V Waves Augment Right Ventricular Afterload Independent of the Lung Vessels in Heart Failure: Implications for Clinical Assessment of Pulmonary Vascular Disease. [Journal Article]Circulation. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]Circ
- CONCLUSIONS: More than 1 in 5 patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction display prominent V waves in excess of end-diastolic PAWP. This augments right ventricular afterload due to backward transmission of the V wave, contributing to right heart failure that is independent of the pulmonary vasculature. Failure to account for the V wave during hemodynamic assessment overestimates the severity of pulmonary vascular disease present.

- Wood type influences tree responses to recurring hot and dry summer tree water deficits across European forests. [Journal Article]Eur J For Res. 2026; 145(6):120.EJ
- Increasingly frequent summer droughts are intensifying stem dehydration across European forests, constraining tree growth and resilience. Even mild water-related stress can inhibit tree growth, although its impact is species-specific. Tree water deficit (TWD), a measure deduced from radial stem contraction during drought, reflects stem water status and can be used as a proxy for the physiological…

- The role of white matter microstructure in the association between childhood maltreatment and adult post-traumatic symptoms. [Journal Article]Mol Psychiatry. 2026 Oct 10. [Online ahead of print]MP
- Childhood maltreatment (CM) is a risk factor for adult post-traumatic symptoms and white matter (WM) alterations. It remains unknown how WM microstructure is affected alongside two common military conditions, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Data from 299 participants (53% male, 35.69 ± 12.23 years of age) of the Injury and Traumatic Stress (INTRuST) c…

- Collaborative studies on in vitro digestibility of dietary proteins based on the INFOGEST Quant protocol: toward international standardization. [Journal Article]Food Res Int. 2026 Nov 30; 244:120598.FR
- Based on recommendations by the Food and Agriculture Organization, an international standardization was launched for a static in vitro protein digestibility method, recently published as the INFOGEST Quant protocol. Based on the validated INFOGEST 2.0 method, the INFOGEST Quant protocol allows quantification of total protein digestibility, individual amino acid digestibility, and digestible indis…

- Temperature and salinity are key abiotic factors influencing the physiology, distribution, and survival of aquatic organisms, yet their combined effects remain poorly understood, especially in landlocked freshwater decapods. We provide experimental data on the single and, for the first time, combined effects of temperature and salinity in atyid shrimps, focusing on Neocaridina davidi, an exotic a…

- Defective Inflammation Resolution in Cystic Fibrosis: Cellular Mechanisms and Emerging Pro-resolving Therapies in the CFTR Modulator Era. [Journal Article]Curr Top Microbiol Immunol. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]CT
- Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a fatal monogenic hereditary disease that affects approximately 100,000 people worldwide. It is caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, impairing biosynthesis and/or function of a protein that regulates chloride and bicarbonate fluxes. CFTR loss of function is associated with aberrant, non-resolving inflammation that in c…

- A divergent hepatitis A virus lineage in wild western lowland gorillas and central chimpanzees supports localized circulation and expands HAV diversity. [Journal Article]Virus Evol. 2026; 12(1):veag060.VE
- Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a ubiquitous human pathogen that may cause acute liver disease. Despite the availability of effective vaccines, high prevalence rates are still reported in Southeast Asia and Africa, where sanitation conditions are poor. Although seven genotypes are known, including three in humans, three in non-human primates (NHP), and one recently identified in alpacas, the diversity…

- Cutaneous carcinomas of the lateral nasal ala, sometimes extending to the upper lip triangle, frequently require superficial or full-thickness resections. Despite their small size, these defects present a significant reconstructive challenge due to the 3-dimensional anatomy and high functional and aesthetic demands of the nasal region. We describe a 1-stage reconstructive technique using a nasal …
