- Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy: An Italian expert consensus statement on risk, mechanisms, prevention, and therapeutic strategies. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This consensus provides the first formalized Italian multidisciplinary position on SUDEP, offering an evidence-informed and mechanism-aware framework intended to support more consistent risk communication, individualized risk stratification, and preventive care in clinical practice.Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is uncommon but is more likely in people with frequent tonic-clonic seizures and some severe epilepsy syndromes. An Italian multidisciplinary expert panel developed consensus statements on SUDEP risk, possible mechanisms, monitoring, and prevention. Reducing convulsive seizures and supporting treatment adherence remain the main preventive priorities; SUDEP information should be offered broadly, while counseling and additional measures should be tailored to individual risk. These statements reflect expert agreement and available evidence and are not formal clinical practice guidelines.

- High prevalence of pediculosis, associated factors, and exploratory detection of the knockdown resistance mutations in head lice from school settings in Chonburi Province, eastern Thailand. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Pediculosis was common among schoolchildren in Chonburi Province, eastern Thailand, and was associated with sex, school level, hair length, and reported history of pediculicide use. This integrated study also provides exploratory molecular evidence indicating the presence of resistance-associated kdr mutations, including homozygous resistant genotypes detected across multiple sampled schools within a setting where previous studies have reported incomplete treatment outcomes following permethrin use. Although molecular findings alone cannot confirm clinical resistance, these findings highlight potential resistance-related concerns and support continued molecular surveillance, phenotypic validation studies, and future evaluation of coordinated management approaches in endemic settings.

- Genetic diversity and occurrence of permethrin resistance-associated mutations in a population of head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) from Seville, Spain. [Journal Article]
- Human head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer, 1767) remain a public health concern, largely due to their widespread resistance to commonly used pediculicides. This study assessed genetic diversity and permethrin resistance in head lice collected from individuals in Seville, Spain. A total of 402 lice were sampled, of which 27 specimens were selected for detailed morphological, molecular, an…

- Temporal and spatial characterization of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor expression in Lepeophtheirus salmonis. [Journal Article]Comp Biochem Physiol C Toxicol Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 01; 311:110694. [Online ahead of print]CB
- Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are key mediators of synaptic transmission in invertebrates and major targets of pesticide action. In early life stages of marine Copepoda, such as the parasitic salmon louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis), the expression dynamics and tissue localization of nAChRs remain poorly characterized. Here, we investigate the expression of nAChR-related transcripts ac…

- On the Identity of Pear Psyllids in Iran: A Plea Against the Continued Misuse of Cacopsylla pyricola (Hemiptera: Psylloidea). [Journal Article]
- Pear psyllids are among the most serious pests of cultivated pear. In the past, repeated misidentifications and the uncritical application of species names led to considerable confusion in biodiversity records and pest monitoring of pear psyllids. Although several revisions clarified many of these issues, misidentifications have persisted, particularly in records attributed to Cacopsylla pyricola…

- Annual dietary shifts of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) in salmonid sea cages detected by joint morphological and DNA metabarcoding stomach content analyses. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Changes in temperature and salinity were associated with variation in lumpfish diets across the three years, but additional annual surveys are needed to understand the mechanism. The highest summer seawater temperatures at 5 m occurred in 2023, the year when company SCUBA divers reported unusually low lumpfish survival in late October, and when the diets of those that remained alive contained no wild Norwegian krill. We suggest that rising sea temperatures may reduce the suitability of lumpfish as cold-water cleaner fish in southern Newfoundland. The continued deployment of lumpfish may require sea cage designs that provide access to deeper, and cooler water refuges.
