- Chronic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes: Identifying key risk factors from Johor national diabetes registry study. [Journal Article]Med J Malaysia. 2026 Sep; 81(5):648-660.MJ
- CONCLUSIONS: CKD affected nearly one-quarter of patients with T2DM in this Johor registry-based study. Older age, hypertension, longer diabetes duration, lipid abnormalities, diabetic retinopathy, cerebrovascular disease, and diabetic foot ulcer were independently associated with CKD. These findings provide useful real-world evidence to support earlier risk identification and future development of a locally derived CKD risk prediction model among Malaysian patients with T2DM.
- Differential Associations of Social Determinants of Health with Diabetic Kidney Disease and Treatment Targets in Korean Adults with Diabetes. [Journal Article]Diabetes Metab J. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]DM
- CONCLUSIONS: Cumulative social disadvantage was associated with DKD-related laboratory abnormalities and severe hyperglycemia, but not failure to meet blood pressure or lipid targets. These exploratory findings may inform future SDOH assessment in Korean diabetes care. Longitudinal registry-linked studies are needed to confirm chronicity and temporality.

- Bridging the evidence-to-practice gap in cardiometabolic prevention: from episodic care to lifelong, system-wide responsibility. [Review]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1903747.FP
- Cardiometabolic diseases-principally cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity-remain leading global drivers of premature mortality, disability, and healthcare expenditure, despite substantial advances in their biological understanding, risk assessment, and treatment. This narrative review critically examines why increasingly effective preventive interventions have failed to yield a co…

- Sarcopenia among chronic kidney disease patients attending a renal clinic in Northwest Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study of prevalence, risk factors and clinical implications. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 Sep 28; 16(9):e123421.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: Sarcopenia was predominant among CKD patients and was more common among those with ESRD. It was correlated with metabolic abnormalities, inflammation, oxidative stress and frailty. The findings indicate the necessity of routine screening and integrated management strategies in CKD patients. However, further longitudinal multicentre studies are needed to better understand the burden and determinants of sarcopenia in this population.

- Evaluation of biochemical evidence suggestive of subclinical myocardial injury using high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T in patients with prediabetes: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Biochemical evidence suggestive of subclinical myocardial injury was present in 14.9% of adults with prediabetes, possibly associated with elevated systolic blood pressure. No significant association was found between hs-cTnT values and HbA1c levels. These findings suggest that myocardial injury may occur early during prediabetes. A larger population-based study would help verify these findings and determine the clinical significance of subclinical myocardial injury in this patient population.

- Risk Analysis of Pancreatitis With Pancreatolithiasis in Relation to Dyslipidemia as a Cofactor. [Journal Article]
- Background Pancreatic duct stones are a frequent structural complication of chronic pancreatitis and may contribute to recurrent attacks and progressive pancreatic damage. Dyslipidemia is associated with metabolic dysfunction and may influence the clinical course of pancreatic disease. However, the relationship between dyslipidemia and clinical outcomes among patients with chronic pancreatitis co…

- A six-metabolite signature characterizes metabolically unhealthy obesity and reveals hidden metabolic risk within metabolically healthy obesity. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A six-metabolite signature distinguished MHO from MUHO and revealed hidden metabolic risk within conventionally defined MHO, provides a metabolomic framework for refining obesity phenotyping and warrants further validation before clinical translation.

- Machine Learning-Based Investigation of Factors Influencing Recurrence of Colorectal Adenomatous Polyps: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Abnormal HDL-C and greater baseline polyp burden are independent predictors of earlier colorectal adenoma recurrence. Machine learning models, particularly gradient boosting algorithms, achieve favorable discriminative performance and may serve as complementary tools for post-polypectomy risk stratification, though further calibration optimization is warranted prior to clinical application.

- Features of Lipid Disorders in Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Syndrome. [Review]
- Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is driven by the interplay of visceral adiposity, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and progressive kidney dysfunction. These mechanisms generate a distinct atherogenic dyslipidaemic phenotype characterised by elevated triglycerides (TG), reduced high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), increased apolipoprotein B (apoB)…

- Multivariate Genome-Wide Association Analysis Identifies Genetic Susceptibility Loci for Metabolic Syndrome in the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. [Journal Article]
- Metabolic syndrome (MetS), characterized by a cluster of interrelated metabolic abnormalities including central obesity, elevated blood pressure, dysglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), substantially increases type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk. Conventional genome-wide association studies (GWASs) analyze individual traits or a dic…

- Circulating Amino Acid Profiles in Adults with Abnormal Body Mass Index: Associations with Triglycerides, HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, and Total Cholesterol in an Exploratory Cross-Sectional Metabolomic Pilot Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory pilot cohort, lipid dysregulation in abnormal BMI was associated with two partially separable amino acid axes: a glutamic acid-glutamine axis (TG and partially HDL-C), and a glycine-serine putatively protective pattern opposing all atherogenic lipid parameters. These findings extend the established BCAA-insulin-resistance paradigm and suggest that targeted amino acid profiling-particularly for glutamic acid, leucine, glycine, and serine-may serve as a way of discovering candidate biomarkers for further study for dyslipidemia in individuals with abnormal BMI.

- Association of Serum Lipid Profile With Diabetic Retinopathy Severity in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Cross-Sectional Study From Eastern India. [Journal Article]
- Background Dyslipidemia is a frequent metabolic disorder, common in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Serum lipid parameters have increasingly become the focus of interest as potentially modifiable risk factors for the development and progression of diabetic retinopathy. Hence, the present study was designed to assess the association between serum lipid parameters and the severity of diabetic retinopathy…

- CONCLUSIONS: Enhanced HPT axis sensitivity to fT3 increased with age (inflection point at 48 years in this study) and was associated with a lower prevalence of metabolic syndrome (in >48-year-olds) and ST-segment abnormalities (all adults).
