- A scoping review of adverse events associated with concomitant beta-adrenoreceptor blockers and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. [Review]Br J Clin Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]BJ
- Beta-adrenoreceptor blockers (beta-blockers) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly used medications and often used together, such as for the treatment of anxiety. However, there is no recent review of any potential adverse events related to concomitant use of medicines from each group. This scoping review therefore aimed to provide this narrative synthesis. Key database…

- Pharmacogenetics in pediatric cardiology. [Journal Article]
- Children with congenital and acquired heart disease frequently require complex and prolonged pharmacotherapy, often involving off-label cardiovascular medications with narrow therapeutic ranges. Consequently, variability in drug response and medication-related adverse events remains a significant clinical challenge in pediatric cardiology. Pharmacogenetics provides a framework to individualize dr…

- PRO-INFLAMMATORY INTERLEUKINS AND OXIDATIVE IMBALANCE IN L-NAME-INDUCED HYPERTENSION: COMPARATIVE EFFECTS OF Β-BLOCKERS. [Journal Article]Georgian Med News. 2026 Jul-Aug; (376-377):323-330.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: Chronic NOS inhibition was associated with hypertension and concurrent alterations in inflammatory and oxidative parameters. β-blockers differ in their modulatory effects, with nebivolol and carvedilol demonstrating greater overall efficacy. These findings reflect associations rather than causal mechanisms and support further investigation into integrated therapeutic strategies.
- Safety study of sitagliptin combined with metoprolol on the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Short-term observation indicates that sitagliptin combined with metoprolol can improve blood glucose, blood pressure, inflammation, coagulation, and liver-kidney function in elderly patients with T2DM and hypertension, without a significant increase in the risk of adverse reactions during short-term follow-up. However, as a single-center, small-sample retrospective study, the present findings should be interpreted as preliminary clinical evidence.

- Acute oral Chagas disease following armadillo blood ingestion: a case report. [Case Reports]
- A 70-year-old man from rural Colombia presented with new-onset atrial fibrillation, dyspnea, and palpitations. A peripheral blood smear revealed a Trypanosoma cruzi trypomastigote, which was confirmed by molecular testing. He reported ingesting armadillo blood 3 weeks earlier, identifying oral transmission as the likely route. Treatment with nifurtimox, oral metoprolol, and enoxaparin resulted in…

- To Interrupt or Not to Interrupt? A Case-Based Survey on Physician Management of Breastfeeding After Radiological Imaging and Medication in the Emergency Department. [Journal Article]Breastfeed Med. 2026 Sep 30; :15568253261492475. [Online ahead of print]BM
- CONCLUSIONS: Emergency physicians, despite frequently encountering breastfeeding mothers, may show variability in their knowledge, attitudes, and clinical approaches to the management of breastfeeding patients. On the other hand, a higher level of knowledge among residents and specialists suggests that specialist training can be effective in ensuring correct clinical practice. Increasing access to guidelines and integrating evidence-based breastfeeding education into specialist training curricula, including medical school curricula, can improve clinical decision-making processes and prevent unnecessary interventions in breastfeeding.

- Peak integration errors and analyst interaction in pharmaceutical quality control using LC-UV. [Journal Article]J Pharm Biomed Anal. 2026 Sep 21; 283:117740. [Online ahead of print]JP
- Peak integration is a major and often underestimated source of uncertainty in pharmaceutical LC-UV quality control (QC), particularly when minor impurity peaks appear as shoulders or rider peaks on the tails of overloaded active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) peaks. In routine QC, APIs are frequently injected at high concentrations to ensure sufficient sensitivity for impurity analysis, which ca…

- Comparative real-world safety profiles of selective β1-adrenergic receptor blockers: A multi-database pharmacovigilance disproportionality study. [Journal Article]
- Selective β1-blockers are fundamental in managing hypertension, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. Yet, despite their widespread use, practical guidance on safe and individualized prescribing remains limited. Existing evidence is largely derived from controlled clinical trials, which may not fully capture drug-specific adverse events, sex-related susceptibility, or early-onset risks obse…

- Severe Myocardial Bridging Without Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease Presenting as Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Management Challenge in Sinus Bradycardia. [Case Reports]
- Myocardial bridging (MB) is an anomaly in which a segment of a coronary artery takes an intramyocardial route. It can increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Beta-blockers (BB) are usually the first line of treatment, and management may be challenging in patients with bradycardia. A 53-year-old male former smoker with hypertension and dyslipidemia presented to the emergency department …

- Beta-Blockers for the Treatment of Arrhythmias: Which Drug for Which Arrhythmia? A State-of-the-Art Narrative Review. [Review]
- Beta-blockers are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the management of both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, and they are frequently regarded as a homogeneous pharmacological class. They are not. The agents in current use differ substantially in beta1-receptor selectivity, lipophilicity, half-life, route of administration, intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, and ancillary prop…

- Pregnancy can trigger or exacerbate ventricular arrhythmias even in structurally normal hearts. A 41-year-old woman at 22 weeks' gestation developed symptomatic monomorphic premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and frequent nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT), with 11% PVC burden and 313 NSVT episodes. Metoprolol reduced arrhythmic burden but not symptoms. Sotalol, introduced with ser…
