- Effects of 12-week training and melatonin intake on biological adaptations and anthropometric status in postmenopausal women: Randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 10; :113354. [Online ahead of print]EG
- CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent training associated with melatonin supplementation was beneficial for metabolic profile, cellular damage, selected renal and inflammatory biomarkers, mineral salts, and anthropometric status in PMW. This combined intervention was also more effective than training alone in improving lipid profile (LDL-C and triglycerides). Training alone had benefits on anthropometric data, CK and phosphorus levels.

- Association of ultrasound-derived fat fraction with carotid intima-media thickness and carotid plaque in patients with type 2 diabetes: an exploratory cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1940570.FE
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher UDFF was associated with greater CIMT and prevalent carotid plaque in patients with T2DM. UDFF provided incremental statistical information within this cohort, although the magnitude of improvement in plaque discrimination was smaller in the broader traditional vascular-risk model than in the primary clinical adjustment model. Continuous UDFF also showed greater within-cohort discrimination than conventional four-category ultrasonographic steatosis grading. These cross-sectional findings do not establish causality or prospective cardiovascular risk prediction.

- Elevated atherogenic index of plasma in multiple sclerosis: association with metabolic profile in a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]BMC Neurol. 2026 Aug 06; 26(1).BN
- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated AIP and an atherogenic lipid profile in patients with MS support the presence of systemic metabolic and inflammatory components in the disease. The independent association between AIP and MS supports the presence of systemic metabolic and inflammatory components in the disease. However, the lack of association between AIP and EDSS suggests that AIP may reflect systemic inflammation and metabolic burden rather than clinical disability. The limited impact of DMTs on lipid profiles indicates that the observed metabolic alterations may be primarily disease-related. Further large-scale prospective studies are warranted to clarify the clinical utility of AIP in MS.

- Acute mental stress-induced adrenergic reactivity profiles predict distinct cardiometabolic risk trajectories over three years: the SABPA study. [Journal Article]J Hypertens. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]JH
- CONCLUSIONS: Acute mental stress-induced α- and β-adrenergic reactivity profiles independently predicted distinct cardiometabolic outcomes over three-years, delineating differential pathways of cardiometabolic risk. These findings support the potential utility of adrenergic reactivity phenotypes to refine individual, psychophysiological-linked cardiometabolic risk stratification.

- Estimated small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and incident myocardial infarction in patients undergoing dialysis: a nationwide cohort study. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2745096.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients undergoing long-term dialysis, E-sdLDL-C was associated with incident myocardial infarction after multivariable adjustment, whereas no significant association was observed with ischemic stroke. These findings support the potential relevance of E-sdLDL-C for myocardial infarction risk assessment in patients with ESKD, although its clinical utility requires further validation.

- Safety and tolerability of nonstatin LDL-cholesterol-lowering therapies: A systematic review and pairwise meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. [Journal Article]J Clin Lipidol. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Nonstatin LDL-cholesterol-lowering therapies were not associated with excess total or serious adverse events or consistent muscle, hepatic, or neurocognitive safety signals. Modest excesses were confined to tolerability-related outcomes (discontinuation because of adverse events and investigator-attributed drug-related adverse events) rather than major toxicity.

- Persistence of cardiovascular risk factor changes after the great recession: fixed effects analysis of prospective cohort data from the multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Post-GR increases in blood pressure, blood glucose and CRP in the USA not only persisted for 8-10 years after the GR but also grew in magnitude. In contrast, mean BMI and mean LDL-C reduced post-GR. Further studies are needed to uncover mechanisms (behavioural or otherwise) underlying the BMI and LDL-C reductions seen here, and the mortality consequences of these risk factor changes.
