- Glaucoma Severity and Progression in Individuals with Asymmetric β-zone Parapapillary Atrophy: An Intra-patient Comparative Study. [Journal Article]Ophthalmol Glaucoma. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]OG
- CONCLUSIONS: In this intra-individual analysis, eyes with greater angular extent of β-zone PPA showed faster functional progression, whereas structural progression did not differ. Although this association was not confirmed in a paired inter-eye difference analysis, these findings suggest that β-zone PPA angular extent may be a useful marker of future functional worsening in glaucoma.

- Visual field asymmetry indices and optical coherence tomography in the differential diagnosis of glaucomatous and pituitary adenoma-related optic neuropathies. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Visual field-based functional asymmetry indices, particularly eSTDI, may help identify abnormal visual pathway involvement in early or subtle disease, especially when structural OCT findings are inconclusive. Nevertheless, structural OCT remains essential for the topographic assessment of RNFL and GCIPL damage. While eSTDI reliably identifies abnormal functional patterns, its discriminatory capacity is reduced when disease entities exhibit similar levels of functional impairment. These findings support an integrated multimodal approach in which structural OCT and visual field-based asymmetry indices provide complementary information in the differential diagnosis of glaucomatous and compressive optic neuropathies.

- Osteoporosis risk in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma using muscarinic and prostaglandin agonists: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]J Orthop Surg (Hong Kong). 2026 Sep-Dec; 34(3):10225536261466347.JO
- BackgroundGlaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) arising as the most common subtype. Recent studies have shown that muscarinic and prostaglandin pathways can modulate bone remodeling under systemic, context-dependent conditions. M3 muscarinic receptor activation has been linked to increased bone formation and decreased resorption…

- Ripple-Like Descemet Membrane Folds Following Combined Microhook Ab Interno Trabeculotomy and Cataract Surgery: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- We report a case of distinctive ripple-like Descemet membrane folds after combined microhook ab interno trabeculotomy (µLOT) and cataract surgery. A 70-year-old Japanese man with primary open-angle glaucoma and cataract underwent nasal µLOT followed by phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in the right eye. At 1 week postoperatively, unusual ripple-like Descemet membrane folds, wh…

- CONCLUSIONS: Estrogen- and testosterone-deficient states in this study did not show a consistent pattern with glaucoma risk, whereas estrogen-replacement therapy and long-term estrogen use may confer protective effects.

- Objective: To compare clinical outcomes of combined trabeculotome tunnelling trabeculoplasty (3T) and phacoemulsification vs. 3T alone for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) with cataract. Methods: Retrospective cohort study. Patients with POAG and cataract who underwent 3T combined with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation or 3T alone at Chengdu Integrated Traditional Chinese an…

- Association between alcohol and tobacco use and primary open-angle glaucoma: the Eyes of Africa study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Cigarette smoking and alcohol use are significantly associated with increased risk of POAG in this African population, representing potentially modifiable risk factors. Confirmatory longitudinal studies are needed to establish causality. If validated, public health strategies for POAG prevention in Africa should incorporate substance use reduction as a key component of primary prevention.

- Applications of single-cell transcriptomics in glaucoma research: from the aqueous humor outflow pathway to retinal ganglion cell neurodegeneration. [Review]
- Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, driven by progressive retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. While genetic and environmental risk factors have been identified, the cell-type-specific mechanisms underlying pathogenesis remain incompletely understood. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enables high-resolution analysis of cellular heterogeneity, developmenta…

- MoCA-screen-positive status differs across intraocular pressure subtypes of primary open-angle glaucoma. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: NTG was associated with more frequent MoCA-screen-positive status and lower vision-reduced MoCA scores after measured visual, vascular, and metabolic adjustment. The subgroup correlates and model performance remain exploratory and require prospective external validation; the present data do not establish distinct causal NTG and HTG phenotypes.

- Phaco-Trabeculectomy Versus Phaco-XEN63 Gel Stent in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma and Cataract: A Retrospective Comparative Study. [Journal Article]Curr Eye Res. 2026 Oct 08; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Both combined procedures effectively lowered IOP and reduced medication burden. However, Phaco-Trab was associated with lower IOP at 12 months and higher complete success rates. Given the small sample size and the retrospective, non-randomized design, these findings should be interpreted cautiously, particularly regarding qualified success and comparative safety.

- Intraocular Pressure Fluctuation Before and After Phacoemulsification in Eyes With Open-Angle Glaucoma. [Journal Article]J Glaucoma. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]JG
- CONCLUSIONS: Phacoemulsification decreased mean IOP and SD in the entire cohort, but medication changes before and after surgery significantly influenced IOP SD and CoV. This should be considered in future studies of long-term IOP fluctuation in glaucoma patients.
