- Signal-amplified detection of sodium pentachlorophenate using a radical-enhanced electrochemiluminescence strategy. [Journal Article]Food Chem. 2026 Oct 01; 531:151372. [Online ahead of print]FC
- A molecularly imprinted signal-on electrochemiluminescence (MIECL) sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) and the Ru(bpy)3[2+] luminescence system was developed for rapid and highly sensitive detection of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and its sodium salt (PCP-Na). In this design, PCP-Na acts as both the imprinting template and the ECL co-reaction accelerator, enabling target-driven signa…

- Group-Based Medical Mistrust and Healthcare Utilization Among Racially and Ethnically Minoritized Adults. [Journal Article]J Racial Ethn Health Disparities. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Group-based medical mistrust was associated with greater acute care utilization but not reduced primary care use. Findings suggest mistrust may be associated with where and when healthcare is sought, underscoring the need to strengthen health systems' trustworthiness.

- Reframing sickle cell disease care: improving care with an embedded primary care model for chronic comorbidity management. [Journal Article]Expert Rev Hematol. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]ER
- We are in a new era of unprecedented therapeutic possibilities in sickle cell disease (SCD). However, disease-modifying therapies alone will not fix a care system that leaves prevention, chronic comorbidity management, and mental health behind. Patient-centered SCD care must address the whole person, not hematology care alone.

- Primary care determinants for timely diagnosis of dementia. [Journal Article]Fam Med Community Health. 2026 Oct 01; 14(4).FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Primary care barriers and enablers to timely diagnosis spanned across patient, significant other, PCP and system levels. Recommendations to provide timely, accurate and equitable dementia diagnoses include (1) Raise community awareness of dementia symptoms, helping people communicate their concerns effectively with their PCP; (2) Enhance PCP knowledge of dementia to improve their ability to refer and diagnose and (3) Develop clear diagnostic pathways to ensure that individuals receive the appropriate diagnosis and care they need.

- A New Approach to Identifying Avoidable Emergency Department Visits Among High-Need High-Cost Medicaid Patients. [Journal Article]Popul Health Manag. 2026 Oct 01; :19427891261490010. [Online ahead of print]PH
- Patients with high need and high costs (HNHCs) are frequent users of emergency departments (EDs), and some of their visits may be avoidable with better access to primary care. A better understanding of the reasons for ED use of HNHC patients can inform cost containment and quality improvement efforts. Our goal was to identify reasons for ED visits based on categories of services received by HNHC …

- Hydroboration of Alkynes Catalyzed by Fe(II) PCP Pincer Complexes. [Journal Article]
- A stereo- and regioselective Fe-(II)-catalyzed hydroboration of both terminal and internal alkynes with pinacolborane (HBpin) is described. The hydroboration reaction is in all cases highly syn-selective. The reaction requires no additives and proceeds with a catalyst loading of 1-2 mol % at 45-55 °C. An active pre-catalyst is the bench-stable alkyl Fe-(II) complex [Fe-(PCP[CH2]-iPr)-(CH2CH2CH3)-…

- Pneumocystis Jirovecii Pneumonia Associated with Prolonged CD4-positive T-cell Depletion after Bendamustine-Rituximab Therapy: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Intern Med. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]IM
- A 71-year-old man with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia developed probable Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) 10 months after completing bendamustine-rituximab (BR) therapy and 7 months after discontinuing trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) prophylaxis. His CD4-positive T-cell count was 37 cells/μL, and no other apparent risk factors, including human immunodeficiency virus infection, were…

- Codeveloping a Clinical Pathway for Recurrent Clostridioides difficile Infection With Primary Care Providers: User-Centered Design Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the feasibility and value of codeveloping a provincial clinical pathway with physician partners for managing CDI and rCDI. The resulting tool was clear, practical, and aligned with primary care workflows. This iterative, user-centered design was useful for developing clinically relevant decision support tools. Future research should evaluate the pathway's implementation and impact on physician practice, patient care, and clinical outcomes using quantitative and qualitative methods.

- Aerodynamic Performance and Mechanistic Analysis of a Maple-Samara-Inspired Small Wind Turbine Rotor. [Journal Article]Bioinspir Biomim. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]BB
- Spinning samaras provide a promising biological basis for small wind turbine rotors, but the engineering translation of their three-dimensional morphology and the mechanisms governing performance losses below and above the low-tip-speed-ratio optimum remain insufficiently understood. In this study, a small horizontal-axis wind turbine rotor was developed from a µCT-informed engineering reconstruc…

- Evolutionary and Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus in Ethiopia (1957-2025): A Molecular Perspective on Serotype Persistence and Emergence. [Review]
- Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) represents a significant global economic burden and remains the primary constraint on Ethiopia's livestock economy and international trade. This desk review synthesized 60 years of data (1957-2025) using a structured, multidatabase search across four domains: disease, genotype/lineage, geographic spread, and temporal context. Data were stratified into three periods: P…

- Factors Linked to Successful Emergency Department Referral to Primary Care for Pediatric Patients without a Primary Provider. [Journal Article]Acad Pediatr. 2026 Sep 23; :103464. [Online ahead of print]APed
- CONCLUSIONS: Around one-quarter of referred pediatric ED patients completed FQHC appointments despite expressed interest and need for ongoing care. Only modifiable operational factors, specifically timing of outreach and scheduling, were associated with appointment completion, suggesting primary care access may be improved by programmatic improvements in these areas.

- IntroductionScreening for lung, breast, and cervical cancer can reduce morbidity and mortality by enabling earlier detection and treatment. However, participation remains below target levels, particularly among individuals experiencing marginalization. While primary care providers (PCPs) can play a key role in improving screening uptake, few reviews have focused on interventions targeting individ…

- Text Message Delivery of a Digital Tool for Reproductive Health Discussions in Primary Care: A Cluster Randomized Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cluster randomized clinical trial of a text invitation to use a decision support tool prior to PCP visits, there were no significant differences in reproductive health discussions between the intervention and usual care groups in ITT analyses. Given higher than expected nonuse of the decision support tool, intervention modifications and implementation strategies to promote greater use while maintaining scalability and sustainment in primary care settings should be explored.
