Problematic pornography use (PPU) is increasingly studied, but different self-report operationalizations may not identify the same individuals. In this study, a structured symptom-checklist-based classification of pornography-watching disorder (PWD) was compared with direct self-identified pornography addiction (SIPA). The present study examined the overlap and divergence between these two classifications and compared their behavioral, sociodemographic, psychosexual, and psychosocial correlates.

Penile strangulation is an uncommon urological emergency. The patient is a 68-year-old man with penile constriction caused by using plastic bottles resulting in distal edema. Liston bone cutter was used to remove the object under local anesthesia without open surgery. The urinary and erectile functions were maintained.

Perpetrators of sex crimes who meet criteria for paraphilic disorders often face heightened stigma. Although paraphilic disorders are classified as mental illnesses, they are not typically viewed as mitigating in legal contexts, unlike other diagnoses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This study used a mediation model to examine whether a diagnosis of frotteuristic disorder influenced mock jurors' sentencing decisions through perceptions of defendant controllability. Among 259 participants, results showed that the defendant with a paraphilic disorder received harsher punishment than those in the no diagnosis and OCD conditions, despite being perceived as having less control than the no diagnosis condition. These findings suggest that, rather than serving as a mitigating factor, a paraphilic disorder may act as an aggravating one in juror decision-making. Implications for legal proceedings involving mental illness and sex crimes are discussed.

Previous research documented that Dark Tetrad (DT) traits and diminished cognitive abilities represent risk factors for antisocial behaviour. In the present cross-sectional study we tested the hypothesis that cognitive styles reflected in overconfidence, intuitive, simplistic, and fast thinking may mediate the links between DT and antisocial behaviour (N = 514). Our results showed that DT traits, with an emphasis on sadism and psychopathy, are positively correlated with antisocial behaviour, and certain cognitive styles: positive associations with overconfidence in physical appearance and dichotomous thinking and negative with overconfidence in moral quality. Detected correlations were mostly low in effect sizes. Furthermore, cognitive styles like incorrect responses on cognitive reflection test and various types of overconfidence (in physical appearance, intellectual ability and cognitive reflection) predicted antisocial behaviour in regression models. However, the path analysis showed that cognitive styles did not mediate the associations between DT traits and antisocial behaviour. Hence, the results of present research suggest that dark personality characteristics and cognitive styles like overconfidence and diminished logical reasoning are distinct risk factors for antisocial behaviour which has both conceptual and practical implications.

Since late 2021, serious allegations have been made against physicist Erwin Schrödinger, ranging from pedophilia to serial sexual abuse. These accusations have significantly tarnished the Nobel Prize winner's public reputation. The ongoing debate has repeatedly raised the question of whether, and to what extent, these grave allegations are justified. So far, the discussion has suffered from an unclear factual basis, partly because key sources remain largely inaccessible. This is due, in part, to the publication of a biography (Schrödinger: Life and Thought by Walter Moore, 1989), which was already considered problematic at the time of its release. This paper presents a review and analysis of previously unexamined sources. Alongside Schrödinger's diaries, known as Ephemerides, and letters from affected women, numerous letters and research notebooks from Moore's documents were examined to gain insight into the biographer's methods. Our findings suggest that the widely circulated allegations in the media stem from a combination of unprofessional, suggestive biographical writing and poor journalism. They do not substantiate claims of pedophilic or sexually abusive behaviour by Schrödinger.

Online or other child sexual exploitation or abuse (OCSEA) perpetration prevention programs are designed to provide services to individuals prior to offending. There is limited research on OCSEA perpetration prevention programs in jurisdictions with mandatory reporting. The present study is a mixed-method feasibility evaluation of the OCSEA perpetration prevention therapy program, Talking for Change (TFC). The feasibility study broadly addressed whether adult clients could be recruited to the program, the clinical profile of clients, and their satisfaction with the program. In total, there were 162 distinct individuals referred with the number of referrals increasing on an annual basis. Clients in the evaluation (n = 40) presented with risk relevant factors related to paraphilic interests and sexual self regulation problems with interpersonal challenges as well as several protective factors (e.g., empathy). The population had a high level of comorbid mental health problems, and many had engaged in prior CSEM use. Program satisfaction interviews resulted in five themes that highlighted the value of the group (e.g., promoting acceptance and accountability) and challenges (e.g., problems with a one size fits all approach). The results indicated that OCSEA perpetration prevention programs are feasible in mandatory reporting jurisdictions. Implications for program delivery are discussed.

Unwanted sexual contact (USC) via coercion is an impactful experience among college women. Emerging evidence suggests that BDSM fantasies are one domain of sexual expression that may be associated with sexual coercion. However, it remains unclear whether USC survivors are more likely to engage in such fantasies or how they relate to individual traits like sexual excitation/inhibition. We examined whether sexual excitation and inhibition moderated associations between history of USC and current BDSM fantasy engagement in a cross-sectional sample of 192 college women. Participants completed self-report measures assessing USC history, sexual excitation/inhibition, and BDSM fantasies across eight subdomains. Coercive USC history was significantly associated with endorsement of several BDSM fantasy domains: bondage, discipline, submission, masochism, and voyeurism. Among participants endorsing any BDSM fantasy, coercive USC history was associated with more frequent bondage and masochism fantasies. Sexual inhibition, but not excitation, moderated these associations: lower inhibition strengthened the link between coercive USC history and the probability of endorsing any bondage, submission, and masochism fantasies. Findings suggest that low inhibition interacts with survivors' coercive experiences to increase the likelihood of BDSM fantasy engagement. Implications for providers are discussed, particularly regarding affirming fantasy as a normative space to process sexual coercion.

The protection of children from sexual abuse is of paramount importance to society, and the threat of this abuse has only grown in recent years. Those who pose this threat, child sex offenders, have been found to congregate in online communities where they can trade abusive material and interact with each other. Despite concerns raised in research about the harmful influence of these communities on their members, they remain greatly understudied. The present article aims to bring to light a phenomenon taking place in these communities: how the offenders present their identities, behaviors, and motivations. Two complementary datasets were approached from a computer-mediated discourse and thematic analysis perspective, which were sourced from (1) clear-web offender-to-offender interactions in private social media chats, and (2) offenders responding to a survey on the dark-web. The results show that there was diversity in how offenders portrayed themselves to others, with predominantly positive self-presentations in the private chats and many negative self-presentations in the survey responses. Offenders rationalized and defended their criminal behaviors, dehumanizing victims and transferring blame away from themselves. They also disclosed primarily sexual motivations for offending, but a range of motivations were cited. Identity construction differed substantially between the two datasets, potentially indicating that offenders tailor how they present their pedophilia to their audience.
