- Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole versus Aerosolized Pentamidine for PJP Prophylaxis after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: Association with Bacterial Infections and Survival. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Sep 12; :103074. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: TMP-SMX prophylaxis was associated with a reduced risk of bacterial infections compared with AP. TMP-SMX may be considered the preferred option for patients who can tolerate the regimen, and switching from AP to TMP-SMX may be appropriate after recovery from treatment-related toxicities.

- Systemic treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol. 2026 Sep 08. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Systemic treatment options for CL show variable efficacy. Despite the promising cure rates for miltefosine and L-AmB, comparative evidence remains insufficient to support therapy recommendations. Confirmation in adequately powered, high-quality RCTs, ideally stratified by species, is warranted to strengthen the evidence base.

- Advances and challenges in novel drug delivery systems for the treatment of leishmaniases: A comprehensive narrative review. [Review]Exp Parasitol. 2026 Sep 04; 289:109196. [Online ahead of print]EP
- Leishmaniases, neglected tropical diseases comprising diverse clinical forms and manifestations depending upon the causative Leishmania species, remain a major public health concern globally. Broadly, the diseases are classified into cutaneous (CL), mucocutaneous (MCL) and visceral (VL) forms based on tissue invasion and pathogenesis. Conventional therapeutic agents, including antimonial compound…

- Toxoplasmosis-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis during tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This represents the first toxoplasmosis-associated HLH during TIL therapy. It underscores the importance of distinguishing drug intolerance from true allergy, ensuring Toxoplasma-active prophylaxis in profoundly immunosuppressed patients, and recognizing that HIV-derived CD4 thresholds may not apply to non-HIV immunocompromised populations.

- Activity of Thiourea-Linked Diamidines against Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. [Journal Article]ACS Infect Dis. 2026 Aug 14; 12(8):2874-2891.AI
- Staphylococcus aureus is a leading cause of antibiotic-resistant infections worldwide. Therefore, there is a constant need to develop new growth inhibitors. Pentamidine analogs (PAs) composed of thiourea-linked amidines were evaluated for activity against methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and other Gram-positive bacteria. S. aureus, MRSA, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, M…

- Advances and Challenges Regarding American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis in the Amazon: Scientific, Epidemiological and Public Health Perspectives. [Review]
- American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL) remains a significant public health problem in the Americas, with the Amazon region standing out in Brazil for its high number of cases. This article aimed to present advances in the understanding of epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and control of ATL in the state of Amazonas over the past decades. This study is a narrative review of scientific studies p…

- Real-Time Fibrinolysis Monitoring of Plasma Annular Clots. [Journal Article]
- Fibrinolysis assessment is critical for diagnosing and managing clinical blood disorders. Currently available viscoelastic testing platforms provide an overview of global coagulation and fibrinolysis profiles but lack fibrinolysis specific assessment of a preformed clot substrate. The lack of a sensitive, standardized testing platform for fibrinolysis assessment can limit risk stratification and …

- Drug repurposing as a promising therapeutic strategy against renal cell carcinoma. [Review]
- Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a highly vascularized and metastatic malignancy of the kidney. The 5-year overall survival rate of RCC patients remains poor despite the development of therapeutic modalities. Therefore, identifying novel approaches to increase the sensitivity of RCC cells to drugs could help prolong patient survival. Recently, Drug repurposing, which leverages the established safety…

- Redefining cardiovascular safety: A dual-pathway, mechanistic in silico screen for the detection of trafficking-mediated and "hidden" cardiotoxicity. [Journal Article]J Pharmacol Toxicol Methods. 2026 Aug; 140:108561.JP
- CONCLUSIONS: A steady-state trafficking scalar offers a practical proof-of-concept route to incorporate chronic hERG surface-density effects into CiPA-style screening without full protein-lifecycle kinetics. In the present benchmark, the empirical gain is false-positive reduction at unchanged recall; broader detection of trafficking-mediated High-risk labels remains limited by sparse IC50,traf coverage. This framework is intended for research-stage preclinical screening and assay prioritization, not as a standalone clinical predictor.

- Quantitative Analysis of the Intracellular Efficacy of Conventional Antileishmanial Drugs Against Leishmania tropica: A Translational Approach Using the THP-1 Macrophage-Amastigote Model. [Journal Article]Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2026 Jun 15; 50(2):54-61.TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Luminometric analysis of transformed promastigotes provides accuracy comparable to that of microscopic enumeration of intracellular amastigotes, while being more efficient in time, labor, and resources. By enabling functional assessment of parasite metabolism, supporting high-throughput and automation with low operator dependency, this standardized method represents a reliable, scalable, and translationally relevant platform with strong clinical predictive value, particularly for species-specific models such as L. tropica.

- Pneumocystis jirovecii Pneumonia in Non-HIV, Non-HCT Adults: Real-World Patterns of Overlapping Immunosuppression and PJP-Active Therapy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: PJP in non-HIV, non-HCT adults commonly occurs in the setting of frequent multidrug immunosuppression. These findings reveal a disconnect between cumulative immunosuppressive risk and prophylaxis practices and support approaches that incorporate overall immunologic burden rather than single-agent thresholds.
