- Association of Hypothyroidism and Anti-thyroid Antibodies with Preterm Delivery. [Journal Article]Mymensingh Med J. 2026 Oct; 35(4):1001-1008.MM
- Preterm delivery is an important risk factor for child mortality and psychiatric, metabolic and cardiovascular disease later in life. In most of the cases, the cause of prematurity remains unidentified. There is still ongoing debate about whether abnormal maternal thyroid function during pregnancy contributes to a higher risk of preterm birth. This study aimed to examine the relationship between …
- Doula Support During Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Postpartum: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Obstet Gynecol. 2026 Oct 01; 148(4):e237-e256.OG
- CONCLUSIONS: Research suggests that doula support is associated with some improved maternal outcomes, although many studies were heterogeneous and rated as having high ROB. Research on type (including independent doulas), intensity, and timing of doula support could help to clarify settings in which doula care improves maternal and child outcomes and reduces health disparities.

- Care of the Newborn and Cord During the Third Stage of Labour (Scientific Impact Paper No. 78). [Review]BJOG. 2026 Oct; 133(11):e129-e141.BJOG
- The third stage of labour happens after the baby or babies are born and when the placenta (afterbirth) is delivered. This Scientific Impact Paper reviews new evidence related to clamping of the umbilical cord, and other interventions that impact the birthing woman and newborn during this part of labour. The paper summarises recent additional information on anatomy (structure of the circulation sy…

- Clinical Profiles and Maternal-Neonatal Outcomes in Pregnancies Complicated by Hypertensive Disorders in Puerto Rico and gave Birth at the University District Hospital between 2020-2023. [Journal Article]P R Health Sci J. 2026 Sep; 45(3):153-157.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Hypertensive disorders were common and associated with higher BMI, increased risk of preeclampsia among patients with chronic hypertension, earlier delivery, and lower neonatal Apgar scores. These findings highlight the need for early identification, targeted management, and strengthened prenatal screening to reduce hypertension-related complications in high-risk populations in Puerto Rico.
- Pregnancy outcomes of immediate versus delayed emergency cervical cerclage in twin pregnancies with cervical dilatation: A multicenter retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Int J Gynaecol Obstet. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective cohort study demonstrated that delayed emergency cervical cerclage following appropriate preoperative preconditioning was associated with improved pregnancy outcomes, compared with immediate emergency cervical cerclage. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

- Primary prevention of maternal anaemia to prevent preterm delivery and other adverse outcomes (PANDA): a protocol for a double-blind placebo-controlled randomised trial of a daily iron supplement during pregnancy. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 Sep 28; 16(9):e122579.BO
- Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) affects up to 30% of all pregnant women often causing symptoms including malaise and lethargy which can significantly impact daily life and well-being. Additionally, IDA is associated with serious complications, including an increased risk of bleeding, preterm birth, small for gestational age babies and rarely, but significantly, stillbirth. The most common current m…

- Maternal and neonatal outcomes in a reduced visit antenatal care program for women at low risk for complications. [Journal Article]Am J Obstet Gynecol MFM. 2026 Sep 28; :102134. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The modified antenatal care program with fewer in-person visits supplemented by telemedicine did not differ from standard care with respect to maternal and neonatal safety among women at low-risk for complications. Moreover, the modified antenatal care program was associated with fewer obstetric interventions and represented a safe and efficient alternative in a high-welfare healthcare setting.

- Stabilization of cervical stiffness associated with cervical pessary placement in women at risk for preterm birth. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In women with the cervical shortening treated with the pessary cervical stiffness remained stable, whereas a decline was observed in the control group. These findings support a potential association between cervical pessary treatment and stabilisation of cervical stiffness. Further studies, including untreated women with cervical shortening are needed to confirm these findings and to better understand the underlying biomechanical mechanisms.

- Prenatal allostatic load and adverse pregnancy outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated prenatal AL is associated with an increased risk of specific APOs, particularly preterm birth and preeclampsia. Future studies should adopt longitudinal designs with repeated AL measurements across pregnancy to clarify temporal dynamics and elucidate underlying biological mechanisms.

- Association of Umbilical Cord Coiling Index With Pregnancy Outcomes in the Second Trimester: A Prospective Observational Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Hypercoiled cords were associated with an increased risk of LBW, oligohydramnios, low Apgar scores, and PROM. Early UCI evaluation could improve prenatal care by identifying at-risk pregnancies.

- Cervical Cerclage Performed at 24-32+0 Weeks in Twin Pregnancies: A Multicenter Descriptive Cohort Study. [Multicenter Study]
- Background and Objectives: Twin pregnancies carry a high risk of preterm birth, and cerclage for a short or dilated cervix is typically placed before 24 weeks. Its use at or after 24 weeks is less well characterized in twins. Materials and Methods: We describe the perinatal course of twin pregnancies that underwent cervical cerclage at 24-32+0 weeks at three university hospitals in South Korea be…

- Effect of Nursing Intervention Supported by Mobile Health Applications on Asthma Control, Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes Among Pregnant Women with Asthma. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Participants who received the structured nursing intervention supported by the Airlyn mHealth application were associated with improved asthma control, treatment adherence, and self-monitoring, as well as more favorable maternal and neonatal outcomes, compared with those receiving routine antenatal care. However, the quasi-experimental design, convenience sampling, and non-randomized allocation limit causal interpretation and the generalizability of the findings. Therefore, the findings should be interpreted cautiously.

- Postpartum visit attendance after spontaneous and medically indicated preterm birth. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with both sPTB and mPTB are at higher risk of not attending postpartum visits compared to term births. Innovative, collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts are essential to meet the needs of this vulnerable population to ensure postpartum healthcare.
