- Adult Colocolonic Intussusception Temporally Associated With Curcumin Qingdai Use in a Patient With Ulcerative Proctitis. [Case Reports]
- Adult intussusception is rare and typically associated with an identifiable structural lead point. Emerging evidence suggests that herbal medications, including indigo naturalis, a component of curcumin QingDai, may be linked to gastrointestinal complications. We report a case of ascending colonic intussusception in a 42-year-old woman with ulcerative proctitis 5 weeks after initiating curcumin Q…

- The impact of malnutrition on clinical outcomes in patients with perianal fistulizing Crohn's disease undergoing seton placement: A retrospective study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Malnutrition is a significant clinical risk marker associated with the requirement for proctectomy in patients with perianal fistulizing CD who undergo seton placement.

- Radiation-Induced Proctitis and Hemorrhagic Cystitis: A Review of Management With Comparative Perspectives on Radiation Enteritis and Pneumonitis. [Journal Article]Am J Clin Oncol. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Radiation therapy is a cornerstone in the management of pelvic and thoracic malignancies, but injury to surrounding normal tissue remains a clinically significant source of late morbidity despite advances in treatment delivery. Radiation-induced proctitis and hemorrhagic cystitis are consequential pelvic toxicities, typically presenting months to years after treatment with rectal bleeding, diarrh…

- Image-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy after short-course external beam radiotherapy for elderly/frail rectal cancer patients. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: HDR-BT dose escalation after initial EBRT represents a feasible non-operative treatment option for patients unfit for surgery with promising long-term local control. The incidence of late grade 3 rectal bleeding, especially in patients receiving concomitant oral anticoagulation, requires careful patient selection, and further dose and treatment optimization (as implemented in the upcoming ACO/ARO/AIO-22 trial).

- Self-rolling film for in vivo drug delivery to limit colonic inflammation induced after radiation exposure. [Journal Article]
- Radiotherapy is a cornerstone of cancer treatment; however, despite major technological advances, radiation-induced injury to surrounding healthy tissues remains a significant clinical challenge. Here, we developed a preclinical rat model of radiation proctitis using localized, fractionated colorectal irradiation followed by comprehensive histopathological characterization. To enable local drug d…

- Short course versus conventional interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) regimen in locally advanced cervical cancer: A randomized clinical trial. [Journal Article]Brachytherapy. 2026 Sep 10. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Shortening IRT duration reduced OTT and improved complete response without increasing treatment-related toxicity, although no significant survival benefit was observed.

- Kissing Rectal Ulcers With Associated Occult Rectal Mucosal Prolapse: A Distinct Endoscopic Presentation of Solitary Rectal Ulcer Syndrome in an HIV Positive Patient With Comprehensive Infectious Exclusion. [Journal Article]
- Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) is a rare benign disorder of the rectum strongly associated with chronic straining and rectal mucosal prolapse, which may be overt or occult. Its endoscopic appearance is highly variable, and atypical presentations can create significant diagnostic challenges, particularly in immunocompromised patients in whom infectious etiologies must be systematically excl…

- A New Endoscopic Device to Facilitate APC Treatment: First Multicenter Clinical Experience. [Journal Article]
- Background and Study Aims Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is an established ablation technique, but limited by tangential probe orientation. ArgoCap was developed to allow precise, safe, and reproducible APC through visualizing the argon beam, shielding the probe, maintaining a defined distance, and enabling hybrid APC procedures. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical feasibility and safety of…

- Probable Isolated Rectal Tuberculosis Presenting as Mild Chronic Proctitis in an Immunocompetent Adolescent: A Diagnostic Pitfall and Mini-Review of the Literature. [Case Reports]
- Rectal involvement in gastrointestinal tuberculosis (TB) is uncommon and may mimic inflammatory bowel disease or nonspecific proctitis, leading to diagnostic uncertainty. We report the case of an 18-year-old immunocompetent man presenting with chronic increased stool frequency and mucus passage, occasionally blood-streaked, without constitutional symptoms. Colonoscopy revealed nonspecific proctit…

- The Proctitis Paradox: Refractory Ulcerative Proctitis Associated With Development of Disease Complications in a Multicenter South Australian Cohort. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite a short segment of inflammation, UP remains a clinical conundrum as many patients develop refractory disease, disease extension, and complications. Further prospective studies are required to define optimal therapeutic strategies for this under-recognized cohort.

- Evolving patient journey in the management of active perianal fistulizing Crohn's disease: A temporal perspective. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: This national cohort illustrates substantial progress in early pCD management over time. These shifts likely reflect growing clinical awareness of the importance of early and multidisciplinary interventions. However, surgical procedures aimed at fistula closure remain infrequently performed in the early disease course, which may be related to the inclusion of a predominantly therapy-refractory patient group.

- Polymorphic mimicry - When Herpes Isn't Just Herpes: Genital Herpes Mimicking Secondary Syphilis: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: HSV-associated erythema multiforme can produce a clinical picture indistinguishable from secondary syphilis. Emergency clinicians must maintain a broad differential for genital ulcers with acral rashes. PCR testing is superior to syndromic diagnosis in complex presentations to prevent unnecessary antibiotic exposure and ensure timely antiviral management.

- Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection Concurrent With Mpox Presenting With Proctitis and Disseminated Skin Lesions: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent acute HIV infection and mpox can present with overlapping systemic, cutaneous, and anorectal manifestations. This case highlights the importance of integrating lesion morphology, anorectal findings, epidemiological history, and virological testing when evaluating patients with suspected sexually transmitted viral infections.
