- Suanzaoren decoction and estazolam improve insomnia symptoms by altering insular subregional functional connectivity in chronic insomnia disorder. [Journal Article]Neuroscience. 2026 Sep 26; 617:54-63. [Online ahead of print]N
- Chronic insomnia disorder (CID) is characterized by dysregulation of the insula, a key hub integrating emotional, cognitive, and autonomic processes. This study investigated insular subregional functional connectivity (FC) abnormalities in CID, longitudinal FC modulation following treatment with Suanzaoren Decoction (SZRD) or estazolam, and the associated molecular signatures. We recruited 82 pat…

- Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Older Adults: Concordance Among the Chinese and AGS/Beers and STOPP Criteria. [Journal Article]
- Objectives: The aging population in China presents significant challenges related to polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) use among older outpatients. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of PIM use in older Chinese outpatients using the 2017 Chinese criteria, 2019 AGS/Beers criteria, and 2014 STOPP criteria, and to assess the concordance among these…

- Mongolian warm acupuncture improves colonic barrier function and immune responses via the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway in insomnia rats. [Journal Article]IBRO Neurosci Rep. 2026 Dec; 21:401-412.IN
- Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder associated with intestinal barrier dysfunction and immune dysregulation. Mongolian warm acupuncture (MWA) has shown therapeutic potential in insomnia; however, its effects on intestinal permeability and underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, an insomnia rat model was established using chronic unpredictable mild stress combined with para-chlorop…

- Altered default mode network homogeneity in chronic insomnia disorder: modulation by modified suanzaoren decoction and estazolam, and machine learning classification. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Nov 01; 1890:150482.BR
- CONCLUSIONS: CID is characterized by dysfunctional integration within the DMN. MSZRD and Estazolam demonstrate both convergent and divergent neuromodulatory effects, with MSZRD uniquely altering NH in a key prefrontal regulatory hub.

- Efficacy and Safety of Acupuncture Combined with Estazolam for Insomnia in Hemodialysis Patients: A Single-Center, Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture combined with estazolam was superior to estazolam alone in improving clinical efficacy and sleep quality in hemodialysis patients with insomnia, with good safety and long-term efficacy. (Registration No. ChiCTR2200061967).

- [Clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with estazolam on chronic insomnia]. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Zhen Ci Yan Jiu. 2026 Jun 25; 51(6):773-780.ZC
- CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture combined with estazolam can remarkably improve the overall sleep quality, anxiety status, memory level, and TCM symptoms in patients with chronic insomnia. The combined treatment protocol is more superior to estazolam alone for chronic insomnia.

- Impact of hospice care plus estazolam on sleep and psychological distress in advanced gastrointestinal cancer: a real-world observational study. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1827918.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective analysis suggests that hospice care combined with estazolam is associated with significantly better sleep quality, psychological wellbeing, and overall quality of life in patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer compared to routine nursing with estazolam alone. However, due to the retrospective design and short 1-month follow-up, causality cannot be inferred, and the study has limitations including a relatively small sample size, single-center design, and short follow-up duration. Future prospective studies with larger samples and longer follow-up are needed to confirm these findings.

- Anshen Decoction Improves Synaptic Plasticity and Memory in Insomnia Rats by Regulating Hippocampal Mitochondrial Dysfunction via the AMPK/PGC-1α Pathway. [Journal Article]Comb Chem High Throughput Screen. 2026 Jun 10. [Online ahead of print]CC
- CONCLUSIONS: ASD can ameliorate learning and memory impairments in rats with heart-kidney disharmony insomnia. This effect may be attributed to the activation of the AMPK/PGC-1α axis, which inhibits mitochondrial dysfunction in the hippocampus and enhances synaptic plasticity.

- Altered Effective Connectivity of Precuneus Subregions and Associated Gene Profiles in Chronic Insomnia Disorder Patients Before and After Treatment. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The bidirectional ECs between the precuneus and regions in the sensory-motor and visual networks in CID may reflect both hyperarousal states and compensatory responses to counteract abnormal hyperarousal. TCM tended to alleviate the hyperarousal state in CID while benzodiazepines induced an adaptive regulation due to their rapid sedative effects.

- Melatonin: Some Aspects of Biochemistry, Physiology, and Pharmacology. [Review]
- Melatonin is a hormone synthesized by the pineal gland from tryptophan as a precursor and serotonin as an intermediate. It is secreted during the night and displays a peak around 3 a.m., depending on the individual chronotype. This rhythm is generated by an endogenous biological clock located in the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of the hypothalamus and entrained to the light/dark cycle (circadian …

- Suicidal insulin injection combined with homicidal wrist incision. [Case Reports]J Forensic Sci. 2026 May; 71(3):1535-1541.JF
- Determining fatal insulin overdose remains a major challenge in forensic practice due to the absence of characteristic histopathological findings and technical limitations in postmortem insulin detection. This report presented a complex case of a 69-year-old diabetic female involved in a suicide pact with her son, who was subjected to estazolam ingestion, excessive insulin injection, and a sharp-…

- Refractory hyponatremia mimicking worsening depression after suspected dimethoate exposure, influenza B infection, and venlafaxine up-titration: a case report. [Case Reports]
- BACKGROUND: Endocrine disturbances after organophosphate exposure are rarely emphasized in routine psychiatric care. In older inpatients, severe hyponatremia is often attributed to antidepressant-induced SIADH, which may delay recognition of relative hypocortisolemia. We report a hypothesis-generating case supporting a multifactorial ‘second-hit’ model. CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old woman with…

- Benzodiazepines Prescribed to Hospitalized Patients with Major Depressive Disorder: A 3-year Retrospective Observational Study. [Journal Article]Neuropsychiatr Dis Treat. 2026; 22:585720.ND
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our findings suggest that benzodiazepine prescriptions are highly prevalent among inpatients diagnosed with MDD. It is advisable to limit benzodiazepine prescriptions for MDD patients to within 12 months. Discontinuing benzodiazepines becomes more challenging after prolonged use beyond this period.
