- Serious mental illness and outcomes in inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]J Subst Use Addict Treat. 2026 Oct 03; :210131. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with SMI admitted to inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation demonstrated greater psychosocial complexity but similar treatment engagement compared with patients without SMI. These findings suggest that structured inpatient addiction treatment settings may support comparable engagement in care among individuals with co-occurring severe psychiatric illness.

- Return of Research Results to Participants in Longitudinal Cohort Studies in Health Research: Findings From 24 Cohorts of the Amsterdam Cohort Hub. [Journal Article]Health Expect. 2026 Oct; 29(5):e70886.HE
- CONCLUSIONS: Return of research results is widely practised across cohort studies, but varies considerably in approach, shaped by ethical considerations, perceived communication risks, and financial and practical constraints. This descriptive overview of current practices may serve as a starting point for cohorts seeking to reflect on or develop their own result return procedures. Future research should examine the effects of various forms of result return on participant engagement and retention, as well as the role of participant preferences in shaping these practices.

- Acceptance and commitment therapy for schizophrenia and psychosis inpatients with recovery and experience orientation (ASPIRE): A qualitative study of participant experiences. [Journal Article]Psychol Psychother. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]PP
- CONCLUSIONS: The holistic therapeutic concept appears to succeed in impactfully conveying the principles of ACT. Findings suggest that through including the entire ward staff as ACT-therapists, it promotes therapeutic alliance and interpersonal connectedness to a particular degree. Participants highlighted the hands-on and guiding nature of therapy contents as especially motivating, leading to meaningful change.

- The association between thought disturbance and suicidal ideation within and across ethnoracial groups of juvenile legal system-involved youth. [Journal Article]Child Youth Serv Rev. 2025 Jun; 173.CY
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings indicate that TD is a significant predictor of SI for some youth, and this scale may inform suicide risk assessment within a JLS setting.

- Risperidone-induced severe hypothermia in an elderly woman with possible prior quetiapine-associated hypothermia tolerating aripiprazole: A case report and literature review. [Case Reports]Ment Health Clin. 2026 Oct; 16(5):235-239.MH
- Hypothermia is a rare, potentially life-threatening adverse effect of antipsychotics, including risperidone. Defined as a core temperature<35°C (95°F), it can occur even at therapeutic doses and may be underrecognized, particularly in older adults or medically complex patients.

- A Case of Isolated Abnormal Behavior Associated With Vitamin B12 Deficiency. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115632.C
- Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble nutrient found mainly in animal-derived foods. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a common condition, presenting with hematologic and neurologic abnormalities, but rarely presents as isolated psychosis in a young adult. A 28-year-old male patient was brought in for severe agitation and confusion. Laboratory evaluation revealed severe vitamin B12 deficiency (serum vitamin B12…

- Psychoeducation for Youth at Clinical High-Risk of Psychosis. [Journal Article]Early Interv Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 20(10):e70274.EI
- CONCLUSIONS: Generally, participants attended most of the sessions, with limited dropout. Clinical improvement was observed but cannot necessarily be attributed to the psychoeducation since this was an open trial. However, this appears to be a valuable and easy-to-deliver intervention that can be offered in a real-world clinical setting.

- Choroid plexus enlargement in Post-COVID-19 syndrome is linked to Serum-Induced cytokine secretion in human hippocampal progenitors. [Journal Article]Brain Behav Immun. 2026 Oct 02; :107038. [Online ahead of print]BB
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight a dissociation between static peripheral cytokine levels and functional brain-relevant immune effects, and suggest that CP enlargement preferentially indexes brain-proximal neuroimmune signalling capacity rather than peripheral inflammatory load alone. By integrating neuroimaging with human cellular assays, this study positions the choroid plexus as a structural marker of persistent neuroimmune dysregulation in PCS and highlights immune-barrier interfaces as critical targets for understanding post-infectious brain symptoms.

- Depressive symptom profiles and risk of cardiometabolic disease incidence. [Journal Article]J Affect Disord. 2026 Oct 02; :122580. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: MDD is associated with CMD incidence over 15 years. Depressive symptom profiles did not show differential associations with CMD incidence. Effect sizes across profiles were comparable, suggesting a general rather than symptom-specific depression burden on cardiometabolic health risk. Continued monitoring of cardiometabolic risk factors is warranted for people with a history of depression.

- Psychological distress, perceived psychological reward, and nicotine dependence among young people. [Journal Article]Drug Alcohol Depend. 2026 Sep 28; 288:113378. [Online ahead of print]DA
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings indicate cross-sectional associations among PD, PR of EC use, and nicotine dependence in young people. Addressing PD may be relevant to efforts to reduce nicotine dependence; longitudinal and experimental studies are needed to determine whether PD management influences dependence.

- Acidic cannabinoids in brain disorders: Neurobiological mechanisms, preclinical evidence, and translational challenges. [Review]Neurosci Biobehav Rev. 2026 Oct 02; 191:107005. [Online ahead of print]NB
- Acidic cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), and related biosynthetic precursors, represent the predominant phytocannabinoid forms naturally produced by Cannabis sativa. Long considered pharmacologically inactive intermediates, these compounds are now increasingly recognized as bioactive molecules with potential therapeu…

- Disturbances in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) have been reported in psychosis, with evidence suggesting consistent alterations in N-arachidonoylethanolamine (anandamide; AEA) and inconclusive findings for 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). Lower AEA concentrations have been associated with greater symptom severity, while the relationship between ECS and cannabis use remains unclear. However, the p…
