  • Effects of correcting metabolic acidosis in chronic kidney disease patients: An umbrella review. [Review]
    Sage Open Chronic Dis. 2026; 17:27558428251411463.Herrera-Añazco P, Huayta-Cortez MA, … Benites-Zapata VASO
  • Metabolic acidosis is a frequent complication when chronic kidney disease (CKD) develops, plus it is linked to adverse outcomes such as muscle wasting, inflammation, and progression of kidney disease. This article is intended to evaluate how correcting metabolic acidosis affects adult CKD patients via summarizing evidence from systematic reviews with meta-analyses. We conducted an umbrella review…
  • Epitranscriptomic profiling of VSMC phenotypes reveals uridine modifications linked to post-transcriptional regulation. [Journal Article]
    Biochem Biophys Rep. 2026 Dec; 48:102816.Reinberger T, Ismail A, … Wohlers IBB
  • CONCLUSIONS: Both TGF-β1 and PDGF-BB/IL-1β induce distinct epitranscriptomic landscapes composed of different modification types, often co-localized in the same transcript. Differentially modified uridines in mRNAs are abundant in a high-energy, pro-inflammatory VSMC state and are associated with post-transcriptional regulation. In summary, these findings suggest that U-centered nanopore signal changes are associated with post-transcriptional regulatory features during VSMC phenotypic transitions.
  • Apathy and Physical Activity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]
    Physiother Can. 2026 Aug; 78(3):389-405.Farajzadeh A, Hébert A, … Boisgontier MPPC
  • Purpose: Patient motivation is essential for successful rehabilitation, so apathy may hinder physiotherapists' interventions aimed at increasing physical activity. We examined the relationship between apathy and physical activity to identify the factors that influence it. Methods: Pearson product-moment correlations were pooled from eligible studies to examine the relationship between apathy and …
  • Efficacy and Safety of Opioid Analgesia in Acute Abdominal Presentations: A Systematic Review. [Review]
Cureus. 2026 Oct; 18(10):e117534.Payne CA, Neupane GPC
  • Acute abdominal pain is a common emergency department presentation and is often associated with diagnostic uncertainty. Historically, opioid analgesia was used cautiously because of concern that it could alter physical examination findings and interfere with diagnostic accuracy. Non-opioid and opioid-sparing strategies are increasingly used for pain management. This systematic review evaluates th…
