- Measles Vaccine Boosters in Immunocompromised Adults to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality From Acute Measles Infection: A Scoping Review. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115440.C
- Measles is a highly contagious viral illness associated with significant global mortality, despite the availability of an effective vaccine. As vaccine hesitancy continues to increase following the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with a lack of measles-specific antiviral agents, the risk of outbreaks and epidemics remains elevated. Immunocompromised individuals have a higher risk of serious complicat…

- Measles Whole Genome Sequencing by an Illumina Tiled Amplification Method. [Journal Article]J Virol Methods. 2026 Sep 29; :115477. [Online ahead of print]JV
- Measles virus remains a significant global health threat, and despite the availability of an effective vaccine, measles cases continue to increase worldwide in recent years. Genomic surveillance has become an essential tool for monitoring virus circulation and investigating outbreaks. Here, we describe a wet laboratory method for whole‑genome sequencing of measles virus using a tiled amplicon app…

- Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination under-recording in primary care in England: a two-stage cluster survey to inform vaccine optimisation. [Journal Article]Vaccine. 2026 Sep 29; 93:129216. [Online ahead of print]V
- CONCLUSIONS: We identified inconsistent coding of MMR vaccinations in primary care records, which is likely to have contributed to underestimation of national coverage over time. However, immunisation gaps persisted even after accounting for inaccurate coding. Recording and coding should continue to be improved, together with addressing barriers to vaccination uptake.

- Projected effects of removing school-entry vaccination requirements on measles transmission in Florida. [Journal Article]Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2026 Oct 06; 123(40):e2610455123.PN
- Florida's proposal to remove vaccine mandates in the state raises urgent questions about the state's vulnerability to measles resurgence. We develop and analyze an age-structured measles transmission model with heterogeneous contact patterns between children and adults, calibrated using data from the 2025 measles outbreak in Gaines County, Texas, and applied to Florida using state-specific demogr…

- Sex Differences in Sentiment-Scored Vocabulary Patterns in VAERS Free-Text Narratives of Four Major Vaccine Categories. [Journal Article]Biol Pharm Bull. 2026; 49(9):1561-1569.BP
- Free-text narratives in vaccine adverse event reports contain symptom descriptions and contextual wording that can be characterized using text mining. However, lexicon-based sentiment scores in medical narratives should be interpreted as vocabulary patterns rather than direct measures of patients' emotional states. We evaluated sex-specific and vaccine-specific patterns in sentiment-scored and em…

- [TORCH infections during pregnancy: clinical significance, diagnosis, and treatment]. [Review]Orv Hetil. 2026 Sep 27; 167(39):1535-1551.OH
- TORCH infections (toxoplasmosis, other [syphilis, varicella-zoster, parvovirus B19], rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes) constitute the classic group of congenital infections that may result in severe fetal and neonatal consequences. Transplacentally transmitted infections have been a critical component of prenatal care for decades. Although screening for this group of infections has been performed…

- CONCLUSIONS: Our prevalence of infections was significantly lower than reported internationally, while ultrasound findings were consistent with the literature. This confirms the international consensus that ultrasound plays a key role in the diagnosis of fetal infections. Orv Hetil. 2026; 167(39): 1552-1564.

- High-dimensional profiling following third MMR vaccination or mumps virus infection reveals individuals with suboptimal immunity. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our results indicate that a third MMR immunization boosts humoral and cellular responses in young adults albeit with clear distinct immune response profiles. This may enable the identification and more effective targeting of groups with suboptimal immunity.

- Measles and Rubella Immunity Profile of Healthcare Workers in Bulgaria: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: HCWs are at a greater risk of contracting infections than the general public because they have contact with sick patients or infectious material. Their vaccination or IgG immunity status must be strictly monitored, especially to limit the spread of nosocomial infections in hospital settings.

- Waning Measles Immunity and Sustained Rubella Seroprotection Among Adults in Istanbul, Türkiye. [Journal Article]
- Background and Objectives: Despite long-standing MMR vaccination programmes, outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases continue to occur worldwide, raising concerns regarding waning immunity and susceptibility gaps in adult populations. Between 2017 and 2019 alone, WHO reported over 880,000 measles cases globally-a fourfold increase over the preceding two years-with outbreaks in both low- and hig…

- Reasons for Childhood Vaccine Refusal: A Cross-Sectional Study in South-Eastern Türkiye. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Vaccine hesitancy has intensified worldwide, and measles and pertussis have resurged across the WHO European Region. In Türkiye, a regulation introduced in May 2024 made documentation of every parental refusal mandatory, rendering 2025 the first calendar year for which provincial refusal data can be considered systematically ascertained. Methods: We conducted a retrospectiv…

- Whole-genome analysis of mumps virus genotype F in Shandong, China (2006-2018). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We provides a whole-genome-based, two-time point comparison of genotype F mumps viruses in Shandong across a ~ 12-year interval spanning vaccine introduction (2006-2007 vs. 2018). Overall, the Shandong 2018 isolates remained as similar to the 2006-2007 isolates as F strains are nationwide, and both groups were comparably close to vaccine strain S79, indicating no detectable genetic divergence or drift over the ~12-year period. As the SH gene alone lacked sufficient diversity to resolve closely related isolates, whole-genome sequencing provided more accurate genetic characterization in this study.

- Seroprevalence of IgG Antibodies to Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella in Adolescents with Documented Two-Dose MMR Vaccination: Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- Background: Measles, mumps, and rubella outbreaks continue to occur despite high vaccination coverage, raising concerns about long-term vaccine-induced immunity. This study assessed serological protection against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella in fully vaccinated Russian adolescents to identify immunity gaps and inform revaccination strategies. Methods: Serum IgG was quantified by commerc…

- The risk of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura after first and second measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine doses in children born in England 2000-2019. [Journal Article]Vaccine. 2026 Oct 24; 92:129168.V
- We assessed the risk of Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) after Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine (MMR) doses 1 and 2 in children in England born from 2000 to 2019. After linking hospitalised ITP episodes to MMR vaccine records, we used the self-control case-series method to assess the relative incidence in the 6-week period post vaccination. We also assessed the risk of ITP after dose 2 in t…
