- Characterization of patients with bacterial tracheitis after head and neck reconstruction using flaps at a high-complexity center in Bogotá, Colombia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Bacterial tracheitis was a frequent complication in patients undergoing head and neck free flap reconstruction with tracheostomy. More frequent stoma care may play a protective role, although larger prospective studies are needed to better identify associated risk factors and preventive strategies.

- Stridor and Dysphagia Unmasking an Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery in a Toddler. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: The most common cause of stridor in children is viral croup, which is typically treated with nebulized epinephrine and corticosteroids in moderate to severe cases. However, recurrent or persistent stridor with dysphagia should raise concern for vascular anomalies (eg, aberrant right subclavian artery), bacterial tracheitis, epiglottitis, retropharyngeal abscess, foreign body aspiration, mediastinal tumors, or other compressive pathologies. Early symptomatic presentation with dysphagia and stridor in young children is unusual, as aberrant right subclavian artery symptoms typically develop after age 40. When clinical presentation deviates from typical croup, particularly if associated with dysphagia, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, or contrast-enhanced CT can identify vascular anomalies. Surgical intervention is indicated for symptomatic aberrant right subclavian artery when symptoms persist despite medical management (nutrition monitoring, feeding support, airway support, and growth assessment).

- A 1-year-old, male neutered Persian cat presented to the emergency room with acute, severe wheezing and coughing after the introduction of a new kitten to the household. The patient progressed to hypoxemic respiratory failure consistent with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and required mechanical ventilation. - Experimental Porcine Astrovirus 4-Associated Tracheitis and Bronchitis in Pigs. [Journal Article]Transbound Emerg Dis. 2026; 2026(1):e2056680.TE
- Porcine astrovirus 4 (PoAstV4) is an emerging pathogen that has previously been associated with respiratory disease in piglets. The objective of this study was to inoculate naïve piglets with PoAstV4 and characterize the host-pathogen interaction and pathological lesions. Cesarean-derived colostrum-deprived (CDCD) piglets were inoculated intratracheally and intranasally with PoAstV4 PCR-positive …

- Flexible bronchoscopy in young infants with hCoV-NL63-associated necrotizing laryngotracheobronchitis: findings and interventional value. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: hCoV-NL63 may be associated with severe NLTB in young infants. FB may play a valuable and important role in early diagnosis, airway evaluation, and guided intubation. Multimodal therapy achieves favorable short‑term outcomes. Clinicians should strengthen awareness of this rare but severe entity to avoid delayed diagnosis and inappropriate intervention. This study is hypothesis-generating only, and larger studies are needed to confirm these results.

- Tracheitis after pediatric tracheostomy: A NSQIP analysis. [Journal Article]Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol. 2026 Jul; 206:112853.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Tracheitis occurred in 11% of children within 30 days of tracheostomy and was associated with increased odds of pneumonia, sepsis, and longer hospital stay. Associations with preoperative factors were partly explained by baseline illness severity but persisted within comparable severity groups. Early identification of high-risk patients may inform targeted prevention and quality improvement efforts.

- Ear, Nose, and Throat Manifestations in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: A Systematic Review of the Clinical Spectrum. [Systematic Review]
- Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), represents a chronic immune-mediated disorder frequently associated with extraintestinal manifestations. While musculoskeletal, dermatologic, and ocular complications are well recognized, ear, nose, and throat (ENT) involvement remains underrecognized despite its potential morbidity. Objectiv…

- Outbreak of H9N2 avian influenza viruses in lesser rhea in Peru, June-July 2025. [Journal Article]
- Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) are endemic in the Americas and responsible for outbreaks in both domestic and wild birds that occasionally spill over into humans. We report the first known outbreak of AIV H9N2 in lesser rhea (Rhea pennata), also known as Darwin's rhea, in the region of Puno-Peru. The animals in this study lived in an isolated conservation center located in remote highlands above …
