- Time trends in patients with ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease not receiving IBD-specific pharmacological treatment within one and three years of diagnosis - a nationwide cohort study. [Journal Article]Scand J Gastroenterol. 2026 Oct 12; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]SJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one in five patients with CD and one in ten patients with UC received no IBD-specific pharmacological treatment in the first year after diagnosis. Over 25 years, this proportion decreased in UC but remained high in CD, especially in older adults. These findings highlight a substantial pharmacologicallyuntreated subgroup and warrant further investigation of the underlying clinical pathways and long-term outcomes.

- Study of the Mechanism of Xianglian Anchang Decoction Ameliorating Ulcerative Colitis Based on Transcriptomics and Network Pharmacology Analysis. [Journal Article]Comb Chem High Throughput Screen. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]CC
- CONCLUSIONS: XLAC exerted protective effects against UC by regulating the IL-17/AP-1 signaling pathway, suppressing the inflammatory responses, and promoting intestinal mucosal barrier repair. These findings provide a mechanistic basis that supports the clinical application of XLAC in UC treatment.

- Diagnosis and Management of HIV-Associated Colitis. [Journal Article]Dis Colon Rectum. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]DC
- A 63-year-old male with a history of untreated HIV presented to the emergency room with acute on chronic watery diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, fever and chills. His vital signs were within normal limits and his abdomen was soft, nondistended and tender to palpation in 4 quadrants without peritonitis. He did not have leukocytosis on presentation. CD4 count was 310. CT scan showed inflammatory cha…

- Anemoside B4 from Pulsatilla chinensis Ameliorates Ulcerative Colitis by Inhibiting Inflammatory Responses via the Modulation of the Gut Microbiota-Immune Interplay. [Journal Article]Am J Chin Med. 2026 Oct 08; :1-29. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- We previously demonstrated that anemoside B4 (AB4) exerts a beneficial effect in a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced murine model of ulcerative colitis (UC). In this study, we further explored the mechanism of AB4 against UC from the perspective of gut microbiota-immune interplay. The gut microbiota was depleted in two DSS-induced colitis models to investigate the modulatory effects of the gut…

- Nanoformulated Curcumin Ameliorates Ulcerative Colitis via Gut Microbiota Modulation and Barrier Function Restoration. [Journal Article]Am J Chin Med. 2026 Oct 08; :1-26. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- The gut microbiota is increasingly recognized as a key mediator of the anticolitis effects of curcumin (CUR). However, the clinical translation of this promising activity is severely hampered by CUR's low solubility and poor bioavailability. Although nanoencapsulation represents a promising strategy to address these limitations, the preventive effect of nanocurcumin (nano-CUR) against colitis rem…

- Naringenin-citric acid carbon dots attenuate acute colitis by regulating oxidative stress, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis. [Journal Article]Nanoscale. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]N
- Ulcerative colitis (UC) is driven by excessive oxidative stress, persistent inflammation, and gut microbial dysbiosis, but current treatments often yield limited benefits and cause unwanted systemic adverse effects. In this study, carbon dots (NC-CDs) were synthesized from naringenin and citric acid through a simple one-step hydrothermal method. The obtained NC-CDs are uniformly sized at approxim…

- Central Nervous System Vasculitis Mimicking Glioma in a Patient With Ulcerative Colitis: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Journal Article]J Dig Dis. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]JD
- A patient with ulcerative colitis presented with progressive memory impairment and alexia, with brain imaging showing a mass-like lesion mimicking glioma. Histopathology confirmed central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis. The patient's memory and reading ability improved and finally recovered following corticosteroid treatment, with no recurrence during the long-term follow-up. The case report and…

- Two parallel systems constructed from complementary optical coherence tomography and histopathology for the assessment of murine intestinal inflammation: a dual-modality assessment. [Journal Article]Quant Imaging Med Surg. 2026 Oct 01; 16(10):772.QI
- CONCLUSIONS: This work establishes an integrated framework: a quantitative histopathological system providing novel diagnostic indices, and a complementary OCT system enabling real-time assessment. It offers a proof of concept for multimodal quantitative biomarkers in IBD, an objective tool for preclinical research, and a foundation for future OCT endoscopic applications in clinical evaluation.

- Frequency and Risk Factors for Difficult-to-Treat Inflammatory Bowel Disease among Patients Receiving Advanced Therapies in a Korean Tertiary-Care Cohort. [Journal Article]Gut Liver. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]GL
- CONCLUSIONS: MF DTT-IBD occurred in one-quarter of patients. Timing of AT initiation and age in UC and therapy type and age in CD patients were key predictors. High MR DTT-IBD risk in CD patients underscores the need for proactive monitoring and early strategies.

- The role of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in improving ulcerative colitis (UC) has been extensively studied. EPA-acylated astaxanthin (EA), a novel fish oil, has unclear effects on UC. This study constructed a DSS-induced chronic-like relapsing colitis model in mice induced by 2% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and primarily concentrated on the changes in gut microbiota and intestinal bile acids (BA) …

- Clinical Course and Predictors of Biologic Therapy, Hospitalisation and Surgery: A Five-Year Prospective Study in Newly Diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease. [Journal Article]Aliment Pharmacol Ther. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]AP
- CONCLUSIONS: This large multicentre cohort demonstrated a higher use of biologics/JAKi during the first 5 years after IBD diagnosis than previously reported. Treatment with biologics/JAKi was associated with reduced risk of hospitalisation. However, under current clinical practice patterns, this therapeutic approach did not translate into lower risk of abdominal surgery.

- Biotherapeutics are required to achieve high remission rates in patients with severe ulcerative colitis (UC); however, adverse effects, complex dosing regimens, administration routes, and low patient compliance limit their widespread clinical use. Given the localized nature of UC, this study aimed to develop localized delivery strategies for infliximab (IFX), an anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-…

- CONCLUSIONS: Transition from IV-IFX to SC-IFX was associated with rapid and sustained increases in trough concentrations, reductions in fecal calprotectin, and favorable changes in clinical activity scores. These findings should be interpreted in light of the small sample size and the upper measurement limit of the infliximab assay.

- Xanthogranulomatous Pyelonephritis in a Horseshoe Kidney: Effective Conservative Therapy in an Immunocompromised Patient. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e116028.C
- Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGPN) is a rare, chronic granulomatous inflammation that leads to diffuse destruction of the renal parenchyma. This destructive process may be so profound as to infiltrate surrounding tissues and viscera. Although nephrectomy remains the most common option for managing XGPN in adults, we report a case of XGPN in a horseshoe kidney of a 27-year-old woman on acti…
