- A person in their twenties, assigned male at birth and diagnosed with gender incongruence, underwent gender-affirming surgery (GAS) after starting hormone therapy. Orchiectomy, penectomy, labiaplasty and vaginoplasty were planned. The preoperative evaluation revealed no contraindications to general anesthesia. Induction was performed with sevoflurane, propofol, fentanyl, remifentanil, and rocuron…

- Dermatological Needs After the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. [Journal Article]J Dermatol. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]JD
- Major earthquakes may alter dermatological needs through physical injury, disruption of living conditions, and psychological stress. We investigated dermatological needs after the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake. This retrospective observational study included patients from eight severely affected municipalities who visited our dermatology clinic during the first 10 clinic days after the earthquake and …

- The Use of Montelukast in Pediatric Asthma and Anti-Inflammatory Effects - Easy Choice or a Balancing Act? [Review]
- Montelukast is a selective cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 antagonist with an established, though nuanced, role in the management of asthma and allergic rhinitis. By inhibiting leukotriene-mediated signaling, montelukast targets a pathway involved in bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, vascular permeability, eosinophil recruitment, cytokine release, and airway remodeling. Available evidence in…

- Evaluation of Fibromyalgia Frequency in Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria Patients Referred to a Tertiary Dermatology Outpatient Clinic. [Journal Article]Dermatol Pract Concept. 2026 Jul 31; 16(3).DP
- CONCLUSIONS: FM was more prevalent among patients with CSU compared to the control group. Female sex, higher disease severity, and impaired quality of life were significantly associated with FM in CSU patients. Given the reduced quality of life observed in individuals with both conditions, clinicians should consider evaluating CSU patients, especially those with severe symptoms, for FM to ensure accurate diagnosis and comprehensive management. Further studies are needed to clarify the nature of this association.

- Associations of Disease Activity, Depression Severity, and Quality of Life in Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria. [Journal Article]Dermatol Pract Concept. 2026 Jul 31; 16(3).DP
- CONCLUSIONS: This multicenter study demonstrated that disease severity and duration are the primary determinants of elevated rank-transformed DLQI and PHQ-9 scores in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria, while female sex contributes a modest but significant effect.

- Negative Emotions Induce Urticaria by Regulating Metabolites: A Two-Step Mendelian Randomization Study. [Journal Article]Dermatol Pract Concept. 2026 Jul 31; 16(3).DP
- CONCLUSIONS: The mediating MR analysis revealed that worrier/anxious feelings increase urticaria risk by decreasing mannose, mannonate, and glycosyl-N-(2-hydroxynervonoyl)-sphingosine (d18:1/24:1(2OH)) levels and by increasing the phosphate-to-mannose ratio and glucose-to-mannose ratio. However, the relationship between nervous feelings and urticaria is not mediated by metabolites. These findings provide new perspectives and potential strategies for the comprehensive prevention and treatment of urticaria through emotional and metabolic interventions.

- Attack severity in hereditary angioedema: a qualitative study to inform future economic evaluations. [Journal Article]J Med Econ. 2026 Dec; 29(1):2477-2488.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Severity assessments, including the length of attack phases, were reported retrospectively, which may be subject to recall bias. Overall, patient-defined severity, shaped by location, phase, and context, challenges simple severity classifications and indicates that severity definitions should also incorporate attack location, symptoms and phase to more accurately evaluate the benefit of new treatments.

- Genome editing for hereditary angioedema: A landmark trial and important unanswered questions. [Journal Article]Med. 2026 Oct 09; 7(10):101324.MED
- Hereditary angioedema is a bradykinin-mediated genetic disorder increasingly controlled with effective long-term prophylaxis. In a phase 3 trial, a single dose of lonvoguran ziclumeran, an in vivo CRISPR-Cas9 therapy targeting KLKB1, significantly reduced attack rates. This approach represents a highly promising therapeutic strategy for HAE. However, it also raises important questions that requir…

- Garadacimab in Hereditary Angioedema: Modeling Suggests Sustained Improvements in Attack-Free Probability and Quality of Life Over 5 Years. [Clinical Trial, Phase III]
- Hereditary angioedema (HAE) attacks are recurrent, debilitating, and potentially life-threatening. Across the clinical program, garadacimab long-term prophylaxis demonstrated early onset and durable, sustained protection against HAE attacks and clinically meaningful improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). HAE treatment goals include total disease control (attack-free) and normaliz…

- Scoping review: biomarkers in chronic inducible urticaria. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Several promising exploratory biomarkers have been identified across CIndU subtypes, providing a foundation for future research. Integrative multi-omics approaches, such as those being applied in the SKINERGY CIndU pilot study within the Next Generation ImmunoDermatology consortium, hold promise for advancing biomarker discovery. External validation in large, well-characterized cohorts through international networks, such as Urticaria Centers of Reference and Excellence (UCARE), will be pivotal for clinical translation.
