- Joint and independent associations of maternal childhood trauma and prenatal stress with child respiratory outcomes. [Journal Article]J Psychosom Res. 2026 Sep 22; 211:113001. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Maternal childhood trauma and prenatal stress independently were not associated with airway outcomes at age 12. An antagonistic interaction of stress during both periods suggests that mismatches in stress exposures across maternal life stages may shape offspring respiratory health. Given small event counts and limited adversity range, replication is needed before clinical implications can be drawn.

- Biofeedback with heart sounds following a traumatic event. [Journal Article]
- Some countries have experienced and may continue to experience severe devastation due to wars, epidemics, earthquakes, and other natural catastrophes. When individuals are exposed to specific psychological or physical traumas, they can develop stress-related disorders, which can lead to irreversible changes in the autonomic nervous system and the development of cardiovascular disorders. When subj…

- Mini-breaths and vocal-fry-like laryngeal register alleviate respiratory constraints on tokay (Gekko gecko) mating vocalizations. [Journal Article]Proc Biol Sci. 2026 Sep 23; 293(2079).PB
- Geckos are among the few non-avian reptiles that use acoustic signals for territorial defence, mate attraction and distress signalling. Although previously considered inflexible, male tokay geckos exhibit vocal plasticity by switching to longer, louder call types in noisy environmental conditions. However, they seem to face respiratory constraints limiting longer duration calls. To test this hypo…

- Loquat leaves alleviate OVA-induced allergic airway inflammation by suppressing TNF-α-associated M1 macrophage polarization and MMP12 expression. [Journal Article]J Ethnopharmacol. 2026 Sep 22; :122384. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: PPY attenuates OVA-induced allergic airway inflammation in association with inhibition of TNF-α-mediated M1 macrophage polarization and MMP12 expression, with quercetin serving as a candidate PPY-related active component. These findings provide experimental support for the traditional use of PPY in asthma-related inflammatory respiratory disorders.

- Integrated surveillance in Kilifi reveals continued SARS-CoV-2 circulation and immune escape of emerging JN.1 sublineages post-pandemic. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate in coastal Kenya causing predominantly mild upper respiratory illness while evolution enabling immune escape. These findings emphasize the importance of integrated genomic and immunological surveillance to track emerging variants, evaluate population-level protection, and inform future vaccine update strategies and public health preparedness efforts.

- Epstein-Barr virus-associated inflammatory polyp of the proximal cervical trachea causing central airway obstruction: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: EBV-associated inflammatory tracheal polyps may present as life-threatening airway obstruction. For rare airway lesions with reactive hyperplasia and EBER positivity, integrated histopathological, immunohistochemical, in situ hybridization, and molecular analyses are important to avoid misdiagnosis. Bronchoscopic intervention can effectively relieve obstruction, but follow-up is needed to monitor recurrence and airway stenosis.

- Asthma and female reproductive health: implications for fertility and pregnancy. [Journal Article]Curr Opin Endocrinol Diabetes Obes. 2026 Sep 18. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: Asthma influences multiple aspects of female reproductive health. Optimizing disease control before conception and throughout pregnancy remains the most effective strategy for improving maternal and offspring outcomes. Although asthma has been associated with delayed conception and greater use of fertility treatment, appropriate disease control does not reduce overall fertility.

- Clinical profile of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and associated comorbidities in children aged 1-60 months: a prospective observational study. [Journal Article]BMJ Paediatr Open. 2026 Sep 17; 10(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: In this tertiary-referral cohort of South Indian children under 5 years, GERD predominantly affected young infants with a respiratory-dominant symptom profile and a high burden of protein-energy malnutrition and respiratory comorbidity. Objective scintigraphy severity was independently prognostic of treatment non-response despite the absence of a symptom-severity correlation. The findings support structured nutritional and comorbidity screening, targeted objective diagnostic evaluation using the ESPGHAN and NASPGHAN red-flag criteria, and caution against reflexive empirical acid suppression; the tertiary-referral design limits generalisability to primary-care populations.

- Diffuse idiopathic pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia with ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone syndrome in Asia. [Case Reports]
- Diffuse idiopathic pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia (DIPNECH) is a rare, preinvasive lung disorder characterized by multifocal neuroendocrine cell proliferation. Because it presents with chronic cough and wheezing, it is frequently misdiagnosed as asthma. Ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) syndrome (EAS) arising from DIPNECH is exceptionally rare. We present a rare case of a 62-y…
