- Expanding continuous glucose monitoring's potential from real-time safety to lifestyle support in type 1 diabetes exercise: a proof-of-concept study among adults with low baseline exercise levels. [Journal Article]Hum Factors Health. 2026 Dec; 10:100154.HF
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory study, exercise was associated with greater evening and overnight glucose stability among adults with T1D who were physically inactive at baseline (i.e., 0 min of recorded exercise per week). These preliminary findings suggest the analytic feasibility of linking CGM and exercise data to identify clinically meaningful glycemic patterns. This lays the groundwork for an integrated behavioral support system that provides interpretable, actionable feedback to support patients' diabetes self-management.

- Mechanistic Insights into the Combined Anti-inflammatory Effects of Bevacizumab and Triamcinolone in Hyperglycemic Retinal Cells: Modulation of MCP-1, CXCL10, and Their Receptors. [Journal Article]J Ophthalmic Vis Res. 2026; 21.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: These results reveal that triamcinolone may complement bevacizumab by targeting VEGF-independent inflammatory pathways, providing mechanistic insight into combination therapy for diabetic macular edema (DME), particularly in patients with persistent DME despite anti-VEGF monotherapy.

- CONCLUSIONS: Documented hyperglycemia was uncommon but was associated with older age and markers of long-term ART exposure. Risk-stratified glucose monitoring should be considered, particularly during the first year after DTG initiation/substitution and among higher-risk patients.

- Kaempferol ameliorates gestational diabetes mellitus by regulating STAT3-associated AIM2 inflammasome activation and ferroptotic injury in trophoblasts. [Journal Article]Front Physiol. 2026; 17:1857741.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: KPF alleviates GDM-associated placental dysfunction by modulating STAT3-associated signaling and AIM2 inflammasome activation, thereby reducing ferroptosis-related injury and inflammatory activation in trophoblasts. These findings provide new insights into the mechanisms of GDM and support KPF as a potential therapeutic candidate.

- Revisiting metformin as a chemotherapy adjuvant: a systematic review and meta-analysis based on recent randomized-controlled trials. [Journal Article]Front Oncol. 2026; 16:1888506.FO
- CONCLUSIONS: Adjunctive metformin did not improve overall or PFS but was associated with a higher ORR, driven by increased complete responses, without increasing high-grade toxicity. A survival benefit was observed in exploratory subgroup analyses at a 1500 mg/day dose in platinum-based chemotherapy, warranting prospective trials to clarify these findings.

- O-GlcNAcylation in diabetic cardiac remodeling and a proposed endothelial-macrophage-fibroblast network. [Review]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1976141.FI
- Diabetic cardiac remodeling involves microvascular dysfunction, inflammatory myeloid responses and fibroblast activation. O-linked beta-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) modification connects nutrient metabolism to protein function within each compartment, but its role in coordinating communication between them remains a hypothesis. This Mini Review evaluates that hypothesis against the available ev…

- Effect of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) Inhibitors on Chronic Kidney Disease Progression: A Systematic Review. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115840.C
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global health concern characterized by progressive loss of kidney function and an increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, initially developed as antihyperglycemic agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), have subsequently demonstrated substantial renoprotective effects…

- Metabolic reprogramming and epigenetic effects due to reducing sugars and glycation products in cancer. [Review]Front Epigenet Epigenom. 2025; 3:1752493.FE
- Cancer cells have the ability to reprogram their metabolism to meet the proliferative and survival demands. These metabolic alterations involve the formation of many active metabolites associated with epigenetic modifications or remodelling together driving tumourigenesis through self-perpetuating feedback loops. Among the various metabolic stressors, reducing sugars, principally glucose and fruc…

- Effect of a family-centered educational intervention on caregiver diabetes knowledge and fasting plasma glucose in older rural women with type 2 diabetes: a quasi-experimental study. [Journal Article]J Diabetes Metab Disord. 2026 Dec; 25(2):281.JD
- CONCLUSIONS: Family-centered education was associated with a significant improvement in diabetes-related knowledge among caregivers of older women with type 2 diabetes. Although FBS decreased within both groups, the absence of a significant between-group difference indicates that an intervention-specific effect on glycemic control could not be established. Family-centered education may therefore be useful for improving caregiver knowledge, while further research using appropriate longitudinal analyses and longer follow-up is needed to determine its effect on glycemic control.
