- Metal-antibiotic interactions: potentiometric and spectroscopic investigation of cloxacillin and dicloxacillin complexes in aqueous solution. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 30. [Online ahead of print]SR
- This study investigates the complexation of selected 3d transition metals (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)) and lanthanide(III) ions (Nd(III), Eu(III), Tb(III)) with cloxacillin (Clox) and dicloxacillin (Diclox) in aqueous solution. The investigation combines potentiometric titrations and spectroscopic methods to provide insight into the coordination behavior of these isoxazolylpenicillins. The results sh…

- Gene transfer from NDM-5-producing and OXA-48-producing Enterobacter hormaechei ST79 on contaminated dicloxacillin capsules to other Enterobacterales in Europe, 2020-23: a retrospective, observational, molecular epidemiological study. [Journal Article]Lancet Microbe. 2026 Jul; 7(7):101354.LM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study describes how a clonal CPE outbreak caused by a contaminated medicine evolved into a complex plasmid-mediated outbreak involving multiple Enterobacterales species. Most patients related to the outbreak did not present with the original E hormaechei ST79 outbreak strain and were therefore not identified using standard outbreak detection methods. These findings highlight the importance of using plasmid-focused approaches in outbreak investigations.

- Dramatic increase in consumption of antibiotics in Colombia, 2020-2023. [Journal Article]Biomedica. 2026 Mar 02; 46(1):71-82.B
- CONCLUSIONS: The progressive increase in consumption and spending on antimicrobials in Colombia requires a set of interventions that include promoting changes in medical prescribing behaviour and a public education campaign that leads to the adoption of a sustainable public health policy.

- Impetigo: Rapid Evidence Review. [Review]Am Fam Physician. 2026 Feb; 113(2):175-180.AF
- Impetigo is a superficial skin infection that most commonly affects children 2 to 5 years of age. In the United States, more than 3 million cases of impetigo occur annually. Impetigo can be nonbullous (70%) or bullous (30%) and is most commonly caused by group A streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus. Diagnosis of impetigo is based primarily on clinical examination and should be suspected in ind…
- Pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions with flucloxacillin and other isoxazolyl penicillins: A systematic literature review and practical guide. [Systematic Review]Br J Clin Pharmacol. 2026 Jun; 92(6):1567-1583.BJ
- Recent years have seen a notable increase in the number of publications concerning pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions involving the isoxazolyl penicillins cloxacillin, dicloxacillin, flucloxacillin and oxacillin. Given that the findings predominantly rely on clinical observations, the interaction mechanisms and their clinical relevance remain insufficiently elucidated, thereby posing challeng…

- Dicloxacillin and Flucloxacillin Inhibit Hepatic Uptake Transporters-In Vitro Investigations and Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling. [Journal Article]
- Dicloxacillin and flucloxacillin are β-lactamase-resistant penicillin antibiotics that have been in clinical use for over 50 years. While both antibiotics are known to induce cytochrome P450 enzymes, there is limited information available regarding their interactions with drug transporters. Here, we investigated the in vitro transport and inhibition of hepatic organic anion transporting polypepti…

- Identifying long-term healthcare and sociodemographic risk factors for lower extremity amputation: a 10-year national registry-based case-control study in Denmark. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies characteristics associated with LEA, including long-term exposure to dicloxacillin and opioid analgesics, alongside polypharmacy and socioeconomic disadvantage. These factors were detectable up to 10 years before amputation and may serve as early indicators for risk identification and guide targeted general practitioner interventions.

- Binding mode of Isoxazolyl Penicillins to a Class-A β-lactamase at ambient conditions. [Journal Article]
- The predominant resistance mechanism observed in Gram-negative bacteria involves the production of β-lactamases, which catalyse the hydrolysis of β-lactam antibiotics, thereby rendering them ineffective. Although Isoxazolyl Penicillins have been available since the 1970s, there are currently no structures in complex with class-A β-lactamases available. Here we have analysed the structure of the c…

- The Tepetitlán reservoir is the fourth largest in the State of Mexico and represents about 7 % of the national territory. This body of water suffers from contamination by sewage, agricultural waste, solid waste, and mining activities, in addition to the effects of deforestation. The objective of this study was to characterize the main contaminants present in the water of the Tepetitlán reservoir …

- Indications and prescriptions of penicillins in a population of Colombia: A cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- Inappropriate use of antibiotics plays a key role in increasing bacterial resistance. The aim was to determine the prescription patterns and approved and unapproved indications for the use of penicillins in a group of patients from Colombia. This was a cross-sectional study on the use of penicillins in outpatients. The subjects were identified from a population-based drug dispensing database. App…
