- Black Race Predicts Poor Compliance and Higher Prostate Cancer Risk in a Multinational Repeat Biopsy Cohort: Secondary Analysis From the Reduction by Dutasteride of Prostate Cancer Events (REDUCE) Clinical Trial. [Journal Article]Prostate. 2026 Aug 31. [Online ahead of print]P
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with a negative prestudy biopsy on a phase 3 trial, black patients had lower compliance with study-mandated biopsy but were 2.44 times more likely to have GG2 + PC on the 2-year biopsy versus white patients. These data extend population and initial biopsy data to first repeat biopsy, strongly supporting that black race is linked with aggressive PC. Given differential biopsy compliance may be greater in the real-world, these data suggest population data may underestimate true racial disparities in PC risk and aggressiveness.

- Telmisartan Repurposing Targets Novel Biomarkers for Precision Colorectal Cancer Therapy. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. The current therapeutic interventions are heavily constrained by the development of resistance and severe systemic toxicity. To address these challenges, this study integrated a multi-disciplinary framework involving high-throughput in silico screening followed by in vitro experimental…

- Hair Growth-Supporting and Follicle-Protective Potential of a Botanical-Based Supplement Ingredient: In Vitro, Ex Vivo, and Molecular Docking Studies. [Journal Article]
- Hair follicle homeostasis is influenced by hormonal pathways, the scalp microenvironment, and environmental stressors such as pollution, UV radiation, and oxidative stress. Elissara[®], a polyphenol-enriched botanical ingredient, has shown benefits for scalp moisturization, barrier function, sebum regulation, and redness. Building on these scalp-level benefits, we investigated Elissara's effects …

- SAFETY OF TAMSULOSIN ALONE OR IN COMBINATION WITH 5Α-REDUCTASE INHIBITORS ON LIPID PROFILE, RENAL FUNCTION, AND LIVER PARAMETERS. [Journal Article]Georgian Med News. 2026 Jun; (375):222-229.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: Tamsulosin administered alone or in combination with finasteride or dutasteride for more than three months demonstrated non-significant differences in the measured biochemical parameters among the studied groups represented by no adverse effects on lipid metabolism, renal function, liver enzymes, or bilirubin homeostasis. These findings support the safe use of these therapeutic regimens in elderly BPH patients, including those with underlying metabolic or organ function concerns. Further prospective longitudinal studies with larger sample sizes are warranted to confirm these observations.
- Ready-to-use, spheronized drug particles-embedded iron(III)-reinforced carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogels as novel long-acting injectable platform with reduced local inflammation. [Journal Article]Int J Pharm. 2026 Oct 05; 703:127290.IJ
- This study aimed to construct a ready-to-use, spheronized drug particle-embedded iron(III)-reinforced carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogel (Fe[3+]-CMC HG) as a novel long-acting injectable (LAI) platform for hydrophobic drugs. Dutasteride (DTS), a lipophilic 5α-reductase inhibitor prescribed for benign prostatic hyperplasia, was selected as a model compound. Uniform spherical DTS particles (∼180 μm) …

- CONCLUSIONS: In benign TZ PI-RADS 3 lesions, dutasteride did not affect PI-RADS up-/downgrading of persistent lesions but was independently associated with a higher rate of complete lesion disappearance, a greater reduction in lesion size, and a greater increase in lesion ADC; the T2WI ratio change did not differ between groups. Because these changes can make benign lesions appear less conspicuous, dutasteride use should be conveyed to the radiologist interpreting follow-up mp-MRI.

- Steroid 5α-reductases in the brain: From neurosteroidogenesis to therapeutic implications. [Review]Front Neuroendocrinol. 2026 Jul 23; 83:101272. [Online ahead of print]FN
- Steroid 5α-reductases (5αRs) catalyze the irreversible, NADPH-dependent reduction of Δ[4]-3-ketosteroids. This process regulates major steroid signaling pathways, including neurosteroid biosynthesis, androgen activation, and glucocorticoid metabolism. By governing these processes, 5αRs influence GABAergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission, and behavioral responses to stress and reward. Although …

- CONCLUSIONS: Finasteride and dutasteride improved hair density with similar safety. Dutasteride caused stronger PSA reduction, suggesting more potent 5-alpha-reductase inhibition.

- Sexual dysfunction associated with 5α-reductase inhibitors in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1787706.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall, clinicians should counsel patients that most sexual side effects reported in controlled AGA studies are infrequent, mild, and reversible, but individual susceptibility varies. Shared decision-making, careful monitoring of sexual function, and further high-quality long-term studies-using standardized definitions of sexual dysfunction and persistence-are needed to quantify risks better and identify vulnerable subgroups.
