  • Does genetic testing remain relevant in advanced Parkinson's disease? [Review]
J Neural Transm (Vienna). 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Westenberger A, Endaya NJ, Brüggemann NJN
  • Genetic testing is traditionally emphasized in early-onset or familial Parkinson's disease (PD), leaving its role in advanced disease uncertain. This mini-review explores, from the perspectives of patients, their family members, and clinical researchers, whether genetic investigation remains meaningful once patients reach advanced PD. In large prospective clinical-genetic screening cohorts, rough…
  • Distinct brain activation patterns linked to clinical symptoms during hand grasping in Parkinson's disease. [Journal Article]
    Front Aging Neurosci. 2026; 18:1895333.Wang K, Guo J, … Qiao JFA
  • CONCLUSIONS: In PD patients, constipation is associated with cortical hyperactivation in the prefrontal-premotor areas during the non-dominant hand task. Conversely, FOG correlates with reduced hemodynamic persistence and shortened activation duration in the right primary motor cortex (M1) during the dominant hand task. fNIRS can act as an objective tool to explore the cortical mechanisms of motor and non-motor symptoms in PD, providing hypothesis-generating evidence for potential targets that warrant further investigation in future repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) intervention trials.
  • A Novel Label-Free Fluorescent Turn-on Method for the Determination of Guanine Using Levodopa. [Journal Article]
J Fluoresc. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Khairy GM, Ali EI, … Hassan SSMJF
  • A novel simple, direct, selective and rapid fluorometric method is described for the determination of guanine. The method is based on a "turn-on" response by the enhancement of the fluorescence of levodopa (L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA), under optimized conditions. The reaction is subjected to detailed spectroscopic and thermodynamic investigation. Upon addition of guanine, to levodopa, a…
  • Wolfberry glycopeptides alleviate levodopa-induced dyskinesia. [Journal Article]
Neural Regen Res. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Huang ZH, Shi YL, … So KFNR
  • Levodopa-induced dyskinesia is a prevalent and almost inevitable complication of long-term levodopa therapy in Parkinson's disease, significantly impairing patients' quality of life. Despite its clinical significance, levodopa-induced dyskinesia remains insufficiently understood, and effective therapeutic strategies are still limited. Wolfberry glycopeptides, bioactive components extracted from L…
  • Cryoprobe to current practice: neurosurgical legacies of Dr. Irving S. Cooper in movement disorders. [Journal Article]
    J Neurosurg. 2026 Oct 02; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]Fisher K, Tsirelman K, … Fekete RJN
  • Before the advent of levodopa therapy for Parkinson's disease, surgical lesioning of the motor thalamus or globus pallidus represented the primary therapeutic intervention for Parkinson's disease and essential tremor at a time when effective medical alternatives were severely limited. In this context, Irving S. Cooper directed one of the most prolific and controversial lesioning practices of the …
  • The ketogenic diet in Parkinson's disease: mechanisms, evidence, and clinical practice. [Review]
    Front Nutr. 2026; 13:1918711.A M, Bai Y, … Wang SFN
  • Parkinson's disease (PD) represents the second most common neurodegenerative disorder across the globe. Conventional levodopa treatment can only alleviate disease-related symptoms and fails to restrain the progressive deterioration of PD. Metabolic abnormalities that mainly include mitochondrial dysfunction, cerebral insulin resistance, and disrupted energy homeostasis have been proven to be core…
