- Empirical linezolid target attainment in critically ill patients: integrating local susceptibility data and dosing strategies. [Journal Article]
- Linezolid is important for treating infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria resistant to first-line agents. Severe infections often require empirical therapy before pathogen identification and susceptibility testing. This evaluation aims to compare different empirical linezolid dosing strategies in intensive care unit (ICU) patients to improve pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic target attainment…

- Designing durable anti-tuberculosis regimens: physiological targeting, resistance fitness landscapes, and treatment optimization. [Review]Int J Infect Dis. 2026 Oct 30; :109213. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- This narrative review highlights that tuberculosis (TB) treatment succeeds or fails at the regimen level, rather than based on individual drugs. The central challenge is to sustain effective multidrug pressure across a pathogen population in heterogeneous microenvironments. In drug-susceptible TB, rifampicin-based combinations achieve high cure rates; however, prolonged treatment duration, drug t…

- Lung Abscess and Empyema Caused by Panton-Valentine Leukocidin-Positive Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus ψUSA300 Strain in a Previously Healthy Adult. [Journal Article]
- PVL-positive ψUSA300 CA-MRSA is increasingly identified in Japan and is primarily associated with skin and soft tissue infections; respiratory infections caused by this clone remain rare. We report a 49-year-old healthy woman with lung abscess and empyema caused by PVL-positive ψUSA300, successfully treated with vancomycin and linezolid. This case expands the known clinical spectrum of ψUSA300 an…

- Clinical efficacy and safety of medicines procured through China's national volume-based procurement policy: a systematic review of 81 studies. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The available evidence does not show that NVBP-selected generics perform worse than their comparators, but its certainty is very low and the concordance of null findings cannot be read as demonstrated equivalence. Most studies reported no effect estimate, many were small and single-centre, and six reported statistics irreconcilable with their own data. Prospective, adequately powered studies reporting estimates with confidence intervals remain necessary.

- Epidemiological characteristics and antimicrobial resistance profiles of clinical bacterial isolates in a tertiary hospital in Zigong, southwestern China, 2023-2025. [Journal Article]
- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) varies across hospitals, patient populations, and care settings, limiting the clinical utility of aggregate surveillance data. We characterized bacterial distribution and antimicrobial resistance at a tertiary hospital in Zigong, southwestern China, during 2023-2025, with explicit stratification by age and care setting.

- MPT64 secretion as a viability-associated immunoassay readout for rapid phenotypic drug susceptibility classification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: a proof-of-concept study. [Journal Article]J Antimicrob Chemother. 2026 Oct 06; 81(11).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide proof of concept that the immunoassay-based MPT64-pDST can enable rapid phenotypic susceptibility classification for rifampicin, isoniazid and moxifloxacin. Further validation in larger isolate collections, including isolates with borderline phenotypes, is warranted.

- SaeRS Gene Expression Following Exposure to Olive Leaf-Mediated Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles in Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings provide descriptive, isolate-specific evidence of transcriptional responses of saeR and saeS to sub-MIC ZnO-NP exposure in the four MDR S. aureus isolates examined and should not be generalized across S. aureus lineages. They do not establish direct SaeRS inhibition or reduction of virulence-associated phenotypes because only four isolates were assessed and no extract-only, Zn[2+], chemically synthesized ZnO-NP, downstream virulence, protein-level, or functional controls were included. Larger controlled studies are required before biological or therapeutic implications can be drawn.

- Comparative Effectiveness and Hematological Safety of Linezolid and Tedizolid in Bone and Joint Infections: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tedizolid was non-inferior to linezolid for the treatment of BJIs and was associated with improved hematological safety. These findings support the use of tedizolid as a valuable alternative in complex BJIs, particularly in patients at risk of cytopenia.

- Eleven-Year Trends in Antimicrobial Resistance and Outcomes Among Hospitalized Adults with Positive Enterococcus Cultures. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides one of the largest long-term evaluations of enterococcal positive culture in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating stable VRE prevalence, declining high-level aminoglycoside resistance, and persistent species-specific differences in antimicrobial resistance and mortality. These findings support local antimicrobial resistance surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship efforts by providing updated epidemiological data on enterococcal positive cultures.

- Therapeutic Outcomes of Oral Antibiotics for the Treatment of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Urinary Tract Infections: A Multisite, Retrospective Cohort Study of Linezolid, Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole and Doxycycline. [Journal Article]Antibiotics (Basel). 2026 Sep 25; 15(10).A
- CONCLUSIONS: While there were no observed differences between the clinical cure rates of the three antimicrobials studied, the high clinical cure rate coupled with low rates of AEs may support these oral therapies for the treatment of MRSA UTIs, but further investigation is required.

- Efficacy of fosfomycin tromethamine powder in preventing biofilm-forming bacterial colonization on double-j stents in patients with upper urinary tract calculi. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: When both groups received a fixed 3-day drug regimen, Compared to CXM, FMT may reduce the proportion of upper urinary tract calculi patients with biofilm-forming bacteria on DJ stents in this region. These findings support FMT-rather than CXM-as the preferred agent for targeted prophylaxis in this region-specific patient population and underscore the importance of rational antibiotic use. Optimizing infection prevention strategies requires integration of antimicrobial susceptibility test results with population-specific clinical characteristics, including established infection risk factors.

- The phenomenon of deuterium kinetic isotope effects has been occasionally leveraged to design new drugs that have altered drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics relative to their nondeuterated versions. However, it is difficult to know a priori which drugs and exploratory drug candidates would benefit from this drug design strategy. To address this, 10 drugs (amodiaquine, astemizole, cravacitinib, …

- Evaluation of Hand Bioburden and Genomic Features of Staphylococcus spp. Following Handwashing Practice Among Aboriginal Schoolchildren in Rural Malaysia. [Journal Article]
- Data integrating hand bioburden and antimicrobial resistance with genomic characterisation among Aboriginal schoolchildren remains limited. Hand imprint samples were collected from 60 Orang Asli schoolchildren in Kelantan, Malaysia, immediately before and after handwashing, three months after a one-day educational intervention. Selected pre-handwashing Staphylococcus isolates underwent antimicrob…
