McGraw-Hill Professional
Selects Unbound Medicine's CogniQ™ for New Mobile Knowledge Management
Platform
Harrison'sOnHand
delivers leading clinical resources anytime, anywhere
Charlottesville, VA, January 24, 2002 - Unbound Medicine
and McGraw-Hill Professional, a unit of McGraw-Hill Education, are
partnering to create Harrison'sOnHand (HOH), the mobile extension
to Harrison's Online. Using Unbound Medicine's mobile knowledge
management platform, CogniQ™, HOH will provide clinicians with access
to Harrison's Manual of Medicine, Harrison's Online Updates, and
Lexi-Comp's Drug Information on their handheld devices.
With HOH, leading medical information will be delivered to the
point of need, enabling healthcare professionals to keep abreast
of the latest diagnostic, scientific and therapeutic data on the
go. HOH will deliver to the handheld (1) quick-reference portions
of Harrison's Manual of Medicine, a leading medical reference text,
(2) daily updates from Harrison's Online, and (3) Lexi-Comp's Drug
Information. In addition to viewing these resources on the handheld,
users can request full text for content of interest and capture
questions at the point of care. On synchronization of the handheld
with the Web, these requests are sent to each user's personal library
on the Web, where the user can link to more in-depth information
on Harrison's Online.
"McGraw-Hill Education is committed to providing medical information
where and when users need it, and the integration of HOH with Harrison's
Online will enable us to better meet the needs of medical professionals
and students in the 21st century," said Robert Evanson, President
of McGraw-Hill Education. "Handheld devices are becoming more and
more a part of the daily practice of medicine, and thus providing
access to the world's most prestigious medical reference book, and
other clinical resources is the ideal extension for McGraw-Hill,"
said Michael Hays, Vice President and Group Publisher of McGraw-Hill's
Scientific, Technical, and Medical Division, a unit of McGraw-Hill
Education's McGraw-Hill Professional.
"We are delighted to provide McGraw-Hill Professional with a customized
mobile solution for the company's leading medical resources," said
William Detmer, MD, President and CEO of Unbound Medicine. "Leveraging
Harrison's Online's pre-eminent collection of medical and scientific
resources, HOH will make it easier than ever for users to stay abreast
of the latest medical information, and help answer questions when
and where they arise."
"CogniQ provides an effective platform that allows McGraw-Hill
Professional to leverage the investment in Harrison's Online and
extend our offerings to mobile devices," said Robert Bolick, Vice
President & Director of New Business Development for McGraw-Hill
Professional. "CogniQ not only provides the platform to deliver
Harrison's Online content to handheld, but also links users back
to HOL for more in-depth content. This is the only product that
truly integrates handhelds and the Web to deliver a complete solution
to clinician's information needs."
