    System Requirements
 

You must meet the following system requirements to use the product.

  • Palm OS® 5.0 or later
  • 18.0 mb available memory* for reader (with additional space depending on content -- see each content source for required additional memory)
  • Palm Manager 4.2 or later (6.2 or later for MS Vista)
  • Windows PC or Mac OS X with Internet Connection
  • Memory cards supported

*TIP: How to check your handheld's memory.
To check that you have adequate space available:

  1. From the handheld's home screen, Tap the Menu icon in the Graffiti area.
  2. From the "App" menu, select "Info". Your memory usage will appear at the top of  the screen. If you do not have the required memory available, consider deleting some unused applications. For more information, read "Not enough memory on your Handheld" in Support:Common Problems.

    Navigating Harrison's Practice
  The Harrison's Practice application provides a number of navigation features to help you browse information efficiently.

    Handheld Bookmarks
  You are able to Bookmark important information so you can return to it easily at anytime.

To create a Bookmark, choose the icon found at the top of the PDA screen. When the drop-down window appears, select "Add Bookmark" to save your selection.

To return to a Bookmarked page, choose the and simply select the desired Bookmark. A checkbox will appear next to the Bookmarked page you are currently viewing.

To remove a Bookmark, you must first select that Bookmark from your list. Select the icon again. When the drop-down window appears, select "Remove Bookmark".

   
   
    CME: Continuing Medical Education
 

Harrison's Practice (HP) offers the opportunity to obtain continuing medical education (CME) credits -- up to 10 AMA PRA Category 1TM credits per subscription year. To take advantage of this resource, you must complete the individual registration in Harrison's Practice and then answer a few relevant questions. You can access these questions either from the web or from your handheld device.

On the Web:

1. Research a clinical question within Harrison's Practice.

2. From the topic level view of any record, click the "Earn CME" link located in the right-hand navigation section (it is highlighted in yellow).

3. Complete the CME form and click "Submit CME Request".

4. You will arrive at a new screen informing you of the status of your CME credit request. If your credits are accepted, you will receive a confirmation screen which also includes links to further information. If your credits are not accepted for some reason (most likely because you have exceeded your maximum number of credits per session), you will receive a message informing you of this as well.

On your handheld device:

1. From within the topic view, select the CME icon CME located at the top of the screen.

2. Complete the CME form and click the Submit button.

3. On your next sync, your CME data will be sent to your online profile.

    Selecting an Index
  You can switch between indexes by using the drop-down list menu and selecting an index.


 
    Selecting an Entry
  To quickly find an entry, enter its name in "Jump to". To select an entry, tap on its title. You can scroll through the list of entries by using the "Up/Down" arrows at the bottom of the display.


 
    Viewing a Record
  To make for easier navigation, each entry is divided into pages . Many entries contain subsections which you can view by selecting the down-arrow next to the record title. In addition, you can scroll through the fields using the "Next/Previous Field" arrows.

    Saving a Record
  Records within your content source can be saved to your Harrison's Practice Web Archive. Check the "More Online" box, and a request will be queued on the handheld. When you Sync, your queued requests will be sent to your Web Archive where you can link to more in-depth information.

    Support : Common Install Problems

1.) I get an error when I try to Sync for the first time.
There are a few possible causes of errors during Sync.  Often the cause of the error can be found in the HotSync log.  To view the log, right-click the HotSync icon in your Windows System Tray and choose "View Log..."  Look for messages that come after "HarrisonsPractice Version X.XX Build X, Palm Version: X.X".

Not enough memory on your handheld

Each content resource requires a different amount of memory. To check that you have adequate space available:
  1. From the handheld home screen, Tap the "Menu" button in the Graffiti area.
  2. From the "App" menu, select "Info". Your memory usage will appear at the top of
      the screen. If you do not have the correct amount of memory available, consider
      deleting some unused applications.

To free additional space on your handheld:
  1. From the handheld home screen, Tap the "Menu" button in the Graffiti area.
  2. From the "App" menu, select "Delete". A List of the applications installed to
      your handheld and their memory usage will be displayed. Tap on the application
       you wish to delete. You will be asked to confirm the operation. Continue to do
       this until the "Free Memory" displayed at the top of the screen equals the
       appropriate amount.

Proxy server settings
If you normally use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, you may need to enter your proxy settings in the HotSync application. If you are not familiar with proxy server settings, you may need to contact your IT department. To enter or verify your proxy server information:
  1. Right-click on the HotSync icon in your Windows System Tray.
  2. Select "Custom…"
  3. Select "Harrisons_Practice" from the Conduit list, and then click on "Change".
  4. Check the "Use Proxy Server" button and fill in the appropriate information.


2.) I installed Harrisons_Practice.exe and synchronized, but I can't find the application on my handheld.
It's possible that some or all of Harrison's Practice did not get installed. You can check your HotSync log to see if any specific errors are displayed:
  1. Right-click on the HotSync icon in your Windows System Tray .
  2. Select "View Log…"
            Possible error messages can include:
                - Out of memory (see #1: Not enough memory on your Handheld)
                - Connection to the handheld was lost (try to Sync again)


3.) How do I login to Harrison's Practice?
  1. Go to http://www.harrisonspractice.com
  2. Enter your user name and password when prompted.


4.) I downloaded the Installer, but now I can't find it.
There are two ways to solve this problem. The first is to use the "Search" option of the Windows Start menu.
  1. From the Windows Start menu, select "Search" and then "For Files or Folders…"
  2. Enter "Harrisons_Practice.exe" in the field labeled "Search for files or folders named:"
  3. Click the "Search Now" button.

The second is to download the Harrison's Practice Installer again:
  1. Login to Harrison's Practice (see #3: How do I login to Harrison's Practice).
  2. Click the PDA link.
  3. Choose the "Download Software" link in the "PDA Software" section.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.  When asked where to download the Installer,
      please note the directory into which it is saved for future reference.

5.) Can I install Harrison's Practice on a memory card?
Yes, this product can be installed on memory cards. To install on a supported memory card, simply click "Yes" when asked during installation if you wish to place the application on a memory card.


6.) Is there a version of Harrison's Practice for Pocket PC or Psion?
A Pocket PC version is available.  The software installer can be downloaded from the "PDA" section (see question #4 above).  To view the Pocket PC User Guide, log into Harrison's Practice and click the PDA link.  Next, in the "PDA Documentation" section, click the "User Guide" link and then choose the "Pocket PC User Guide". Currently, there is no support for the Psion platform.


7.) How do I add or remove content from my handheld?
  1. Login to Harrison's Practice (see #3: How do I login to Harrison's Practice).
  2. Click on the PDA link.
  3. Check or uncheck the appropriate content and click the "Update" button.
  4. Sync your handheld.


8.) I can't install Harrison's Practice on my PC.
With some operating systems (Notably Windows NT, 2000, and XP Pro) you must have Administrator access to install some programs. You may need to contact your internal support department to assist with the install if you do not have administrative rights on your PC.
