    Install : System Requirements
 

You must meet the following system requirements to use the product.

  • Pocket PC 2003 or later
  • Windows Mobile (All platforms)
  • Harrison's Practice - 18.0 MB of available memory
  • Memory cards are supported
  • ActiveSync 4.0 or later (Win XP or earlier)
  • Windows Mobile Device Center (for MS Vista)
  • Windows PC with Internet Connection

*TIP: How to check your handheld's memory.
To check that you have adequate space available:

From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then System, then Memory.  Check that you have the required Storage memory. On some devices you can move the memory slider to increase available Storage memory.

    Launching the Application
  Launch the application by accessing the Start menu, selecting "Programs", and then the application icon.


 
    Common Icons
  Below are the icons commonly used in the Harrison's Practice handheld application and their function.

 
    Handheld : Smartphone Navigation
  The application is compatible with Windows Mobile / Smartphone devices. Smartphones employ a 5-way navigation wheel and do not utilize a touch screen. In place of icons in the display, navigation functions can be carried out by opening the "Options" menu and selecting the appropriate action.
 
 
    Navigating Harrison's Practice
  The Harrison's Practice application provides a number of navigation features to help you browse information efficiently.

    Bookmarks
 

The Unbound platform allows you to Bookmark important information so you can return
to it easily at anytime.

To create a Bookmark, select the Options menu in the lower-left portion of the screen (Pocket PC users may select Options or the icon throughout this process). A pop-up menu will appear - choose "Bookmarks". A second menu will appear with the options, "Add Bookmarks" and "See all Bookmarks". Select "Add Bookmark" to save your selection. To see all the bookmarks you've created, select "See all bookmarks".

To return to a Bookmarked page, select the Options menu again and choose the desired Bookmark. A checkbox will appear next to the bookmarked page you are currently viewing.

To remove a Bookmark, select it from your list to access the bookmarked page. Select Options again. When the pop-up menu appears, select "Remove Bookmark".

 

   
    CME: Continuing Medical Education
 

Harrison's Practice (HP) offers the opportunity to obtain continuing medical education (CME) credits -- up to 10 AMA PRA Category 1TM credits per subscription year. To take advantage of this resource, you must complete the individual registration in Harrison's Practice and then answer a few relevant questions. You can access these questions either from the web or from your handheld device.

On the Web:

1. Research a clinical question within Harrison's Practice.

2. From the topic level view of any record, click the "Earn CME" link located in the right-hand navigation section (it is highlighted in yellow).

3. Complete the CME form and click "Submit CME Request".

4. You will arrive at a new screen informing you of the status of your CME credit request. If your credits are accepted, you will receive a confirmation screen which also includes links to further information. If your credits are not accepted for some reason (most likely because you have exceeded your maximum number of credits per session), you will receive a message informing you of this as well.

On your handheld device:

1. From within the topic view, select the Options menu in the lower-left portion of the screen. A pop-up menu will appear - choose "CME" to access the questionairre form.

2. Complete the CME form and click the Submit button.

3. On your next sync, your CME data will be sent to your online profile.

    Selecting an Index
  You can switch between indexes by using the drop-down list menu and selecting an index.

 
    Selecting an Entry
  To quickly find an entry, enter its name in "Jump to". To select an entry, choose its title. You can scroll through the list of entries by using the "Up/Down" arrows at the bottom of the display. 


 
    Viewing a Record
  To make for easier navigation, each entry is divided into pages. Many entries contain subsections which you you can view by selecting the down-arrow next to the Record title. In addition, you can scroll through the fields using the "Next/Previous Field" arrows.

    Saving a Record
  Records within your content source can be saved to your Harrison's Practice Web Archive. Select the "More Online" box, and a request will be queued on the handheld. When you Sync, your queued requests are sent to your Web Archive where you can link to more in-depth information.

    Support : Common Install Problems

1.) I can't install the application on my PC.
With some operating systems (notably Windows NT, 2000, and XP Pro) you must have Administrator access to install some programs. You may need to contact your internal support department to assist with the install if you do not have administrative rights on your PC.

2.) I get an error when I try to Sync for the first time.
The main cause of synchronization error is:

Not enough memory on your Handheld
The memory requirements for this product are found in the 
system requirements
section.

To check that you have adequate space available:

  1. From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then System, then Memory.  Check that you have the required "Storage" memory. Some devices will permit you to move the memory slider to increase available Storage memory.

To free additional space on your handheld:

  1. From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then Remove Programs.
  2. Tap on the Program you would like to delete and then tap "Remove."

3.) I ran the Installer and performed a synchronization, but I can't find the application on my handheld.
It's possible that some or all of the application did not get installed on the initial synchronization.

  1. Synchronize again and check whether the application got installed.
  2. If not, check if there is enough memory on your device (see Question #2)

4.) I had to perform a Hard Reset on my handheld. How do I reinstall the application?
A Hard Reset may wipe out all the applications and data in the device's flash ROM. To reinstall the application, re-run the product Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

5.) How do I login to Harrison's Practice?
  1. Go to http://www.harrisonspractice.com
  2. Enter your user name and password when prompted.


6.) I downloaded the Installer, but now I can't find it.
There are two ways to solve this problem. The first is to use the "Search" option of the Windows Start menu.
  1. From the Windows Start menu, select "Search" and then "For Files or Folders…"
  2. Enter "Harrisons_Practice.exe" in the field labeled "Search for files or folders named:"
  3. Click the "Search Now" button.

The second is to download the Harrison's Practice Installer again:
  1. Login to Harrison's Practice (see #5: How do I login to Harrison's Practice?).
  2. Click the PDA link.
  3. Choose the Download Software link in the "PDA Software" section.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.  When asked where to download the Installer,
      please note the directory into which it is saved for future reference

7.) Can I install the application on a memory card?
Yes, the program can be installed on a memory card.  When you first run the Installer, you will be asked "Do you want to install this application in the Default Directory?"  Click "No", and then chose the card onto which you would like to install the application.


8.) I purchased a new handheld and want to install the application on it.
Simply re-run the Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

9.) How do I add or remove content from my handheld?
  1. Login to Harrison's Practice (see #5: How do I login to Harrison's Practice?).
  2. Click on the PDA link.
  3. Check or uncheck the appropriate content and click the "Update" button.
  4. Sync your handheld buy removing it from its cradle and then placing it back.
