Pediatric Care Online is an integrated point-of-care solution that delivers quick, reliable pediatric information for your every day clinical needs. It provides a powerful and flexible platform for delivering knowledge to the point of need.

To begin using Pediatric Care Online, follow the steps below.

System Requirement

You must meet the following system requirements to use the product.

  • Windows Mobile (All Platforms)
  • 6.0 MB of available memory
  • ActiveSync 4.0 or later (Win XP or earlier)
  • Windows Mobile Device Center (for MS Vista)
  • Windows PC with Internet Connection
  • Memory cards supported

*TIP: How to check your handheld's memory.
To check that you have adequate space available:

From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then System, then Memory.  Check that you have the required Storage memory. On some devices you can move the memory slider to increase available Storage memory.

Activating the Product

To activate the product or re-install the application in the future, please double click on the installer that was downloaded to your PC and follow the on-screen instructions.

The application can be launched from either the Start menu or from the "Programs" directory.

Home screen

The Home screen displays a list of your currently selected content. To open a content resource, select the entry in the list. 


From you application homescreen you can browse resources or access your handheld bookmarks

 

Common Icons

Below are the icons commonly used in the Pediatric Care Online handheld application and their function.

Home Home - Takes you back to the main screen.
Index/TOC Index/TOC - Takes you back to the Index or TOC level.
Update Update - Denotes new or updated content that has not yet been viewed.
Subentries Subentries - Denotes the presence of a subentry.
Drop-Down Menu Open Drop-Down Menu - Denotes the presence of a drop-down menu.
Previous/Next Next/Prev Page - Takes you to the next/previous page in an index.
Back Back - Steps you back one screen at a time.
Jump to Jump to - Enter the first letter(s) of the desired term in the graffiti area and you will be scrolled to the closest matching term in the index.
Search Search - Select this icon to bring up the forms manager screen. From  here you can capture questions that are sent to myPCO.
More Online More Online - Check the "More Online" box to save a record to your archive, myPCO.
Change Font Size Change Font Size - Use this function to change the size of the displayed font.
Cross-Links Cross Links - Signifies that related content is available in other content resources. Select this function to quickly jump between these resources.

 

Wireless Syncing

The application includes the ability to synchronize your handheld device wirelessly. Once the application is installed to your device, you no longer need to connect with your computer via cables or cradle.

To synchronize, select the Options menu found at the bottom of the handheld's homescreen. When the pop-up menu appears, select the "Wireless Sync" option. You have just synchronized wirelessly! You can now save records to your web account and update your PDA content, all without leaving your patient's side!!

Note: To obtain the Wireless Syncing feature, you must have a Palm OS or Windows Mobile device with wireless access and have the latest version of the application. If you have a qualified device but do not see the Wireless Sync icon at the bottom of the application's home screen, you do not have the most recent version.

Smartphone Navigation

Pediatric Care Online is compatible with Windows Mobile / Smartphone devices. Smartphones employ a 5-way navigation wheel and do not utilize a touch screen. In place of icons in the display, navigation functions can be carried out by opening the Options menu and selecting the appropriate action.

Bookmarks

The Unbound platform allows you to Bookmark important information so you can return
to it easily at anytime.

To create a Bookmark, select the Options menu in the lower-left portion of the screen (Windows Mobile users may select Options or the Bookmark Icon icon throughout this process). A pop-up menu will appear - choose "Bookmarks". A second menu will appear with the options, "Add Bookmarks" and "See all Bookmarks". Select "Add Bookmark" to save your selection. To see all the bookmarks you've created, select "See all bookmarks".

To return to a Bookmarked page, select the Options menu again and choose the desired Bookmark. A checkbox will appear next to the bookmarked page you are currently viewing.

To remove a Bookmark, select it from your list to access the bookmarked page. Select Options again. When the pop-up menu appears, select "Remove Bookmark".

To quickly find an entry, enter its name in "Jump to". To choose an entry, select its title. You can scroll through the list of entries by using the "Up/Down" arrows at the bottom of the display.

To make for easier navigation, each entry is divided into pages . Many entries contain subsections which you you can view by utilizing the down-arrow next to the title. In addition, you can scroll through the fields using the "Next/Previous" arrows.

Saving a Record to myPCO

Records can be saved to your myPCO archive on the web. Check the "More Online" box, and a request will be queued on your device. When you Sync, your queued requests will be saved online where you can link to more in-depth information later.

Common Install Problems
1.) I can't install the application on my PC.
With some operating systems (notably Windows NT, 2000, and XP Pro) you must have Administrator access to install some programs. You may need to contact your internal support department to assist with the install if you do not have administrative rights on your PC.
2.) I get an error when I try to Sync for the first time.
The main cause of synchronization error is:
Not enough memory on your Handheld
The memory requirements for this product are found in the system requirements section.

To check that you have adequate space available:
  1. From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then System, then Memory.
  2. Check that you have the required "Storage" memory. Some devices will permit you to move the memory slider to increase available Storage memory.
To free additional space on your handheld:
  1. From the handheld's Start Menu, choose Settings, then Remove Programs.
  2. Tap on the Program you would like to delete and then tap "Remove."
3.) I ran the Installer and performed a synchronization, but I can't find the application on my handheld.
It's possible that some or all of the application did not get installed on the initial synchronization.
  1. Synchronize again and check whether the application got installed.
  2. If not, check if there is enough memory on your device (see Question #2)
4.) I had to perform a Hard Reset on my handheld. How do I reinstall the application?
A Hard Reset may wipe out all the applications and data in the device's flash ROM. To reinstall the application, re-run the product Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
5.) How do I login to Pediatric Care Online?
    1. Go to http://www.unboundmedicine.com/pco/ub
    2. Enter your user name and password when prompted.
6.) I downloaded the Installer, but now I can't find it.

There are two ways to solve this problem. The first is to use the "Search" option of the Windows Start menu.

  1. From the Windows Start menu, select "Search" and then "For Files or Folders…"
  2. Enter "unbound" in the field labeled "Search for files or folders named:"
  3. Click the "Search Now" button.
6b.) The second is to download the Pediatric Care Online Installer again:
  1. Login to Pediatric Care Online (see #5: How do I login to Pediatric Care Online?).
  2. Click the Mobile link.
  3. Choose the Download Software link in the "Mobile Resources" section.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.  When asked where to download the Installer, please note the directory into which it is saved for future reference
7.) Can I install the application on a memory card?
Yes, the program can be installed on a memory card.  When you first run the Installer, you will be asked "Do you want to install this application in the Default Directory?"  Click "No", and then chose the card onto which you would like to install the application.
8.) I purchased a new handheld and want to install the application on it.
Simply re-run the Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
9.) How do I add or remove content from my handheld?
1. Login to Pediatric Care Online
    (see #5: How do I login to Pediatric Care Online?).
2. Click on the Mobile link.
3. Check or uncheck the appropriate content and click the "Update" button.
4. Sync your device buy removing it from its cradle and then placing it back.
