Two new saponins from the roots of Phytolacca esculenta.
Planta Med. 1992 Feb; 58(1):99-101.PM

Abstract

Two triterpenoidal saponins having phytolaccagenin as the aglycone were isolated from the roots of Phytolacca esculenta (Phytolaccaceae). The structures of two new saponins, esculentoside I and esculentoside N, were established to be 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----4)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-phytolaccagenin and 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1----4)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1----4)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylphytolaccagenin, respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence.
