In view of his professional training the dentist should be prepared to play an important role in the early diagnosis of oral malignancies. Furthermore, the dentist has a responsibility in the primary prevention of not only oral cancer, but also of cancer in other sites of the body, by providing the appropriate information to his patients about cancer preventive measurements.
