Anatomical basis of compression of common peroneal nerve.Anat Anz. 1989; 169(1):49-51.AA
Abstract
A thickened fascia on the lateral border of fibula between soleus and peroneus longus is described. In 8.5% of cases, the fascia over the common peroneal nerve which is continuous with the fascia extending between soleus and peroneus longus is comparatively thick. It is suggested that in certain cases of muscular contractions this thickened fascia may be a causative factor involved in the compression of common peroneal nerve, since this fascia is also continuous with the fascia over the surrounding muscles.
