[Latero-lateral meso-caval anastomosis in portal hypertension. Report concerning 20 cases (author's transl)].
J Chir (Paris). 1980 Oct; 117(10):519-23.JC

Abstract

A new technique of latero-lateral meso-caval technique for the treatment of portal hypertension is described and 20 consecutive patients have been treated using this method with success. There were no operative deaths or severe complications. Follow up over periods ranging from one and a half to three years indicates that all the patients are well. Oesophageal varices disappeared in 4 cases and 8 patients have been able to return to work. The author briefly discusses the technique of porto-systemic shunt and the necessary features of the procedure. The advantages of this technique are summarised. If there is a wide gap between the superior mesenteric vein and the inferior vena cava, the author suggests taking a graft in the area in order to perform a meso-caval bypass by interposition.
