We, herein, report a case of a patient with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) who developed sudden exertional dyspnea and hypoxia and was found to be hyponatremic. A diagnosis of SIADH was made due to COVID-19 pneumonia. The patient was managed conservatively with a significant improvement during the co…
  • Dead in the air? Case report highlighting need to adapt to CoVID adaptations. [Case Reports]
Am J Emerg Med. 2020 Jul 23 [Online ahead of print]Kuehnel NA, Yngsdal-Krenz RTR, Glazer JM
  • During the recent CoVID-19 pandemic, airway management recommendations have been provided to decrease aerosolization and risk of viral spread to healthcare providers. High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) viral filters and adaptors are one way to decrease the risk of aerosolization during intubation. When placed proximal to the ventilator circuit, these viral filters and adaptors can create a si…
  • Long-term effects of COVID-19 in a patient on maintenance dialysis. [Case Reports]

  • Coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19) is a novel respiratory infection highly associated with severe complications in elderly subjects affected by cardiovascular disease. Patients on maintenance dialysis are exceptionally vulnerable because most of them are old and have multiple comorbidities. We report the complex clinical course of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a patient on maintenance dialysis w…
  • Pediatric Case of Severe COVID-19 With Shock and Multisystem Inflammation. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2020 Jun 29; 12(6):e8915.Nguyen DC, Haydar H, … Dobbs KR
  • While the majority of pediatric coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases have not been critical, occurrences of a multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) have been emerging as the pandemic progresses. Herein, we report our experience with a pediatric COVID-19 case that presented with shock and multisystem inflammation. Our patient notably had multiple negative severe acute respirat…
  • Pulmonary Embolism in COVID-19 Pneumonia: Random Association or Causality? [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2020 Jun 29; 12(6):e8900.Fortuzi K, Ghazanfar H, … Patel M
  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing pandemic. COVID-19 leads to a plethora of clinical syndromes, most commonly affecting the pulmonary system but also the cardiovascular, hematologic, and gastrointestinal systems. There is emerging evidence of an association between COVID-19 and venous thromboembolism (VTE). In this report, we have discussed three cases with a COVID-19 infection, w…

  • The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (known as COVID-19), which started in Wuhan, China in December 2019, is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It has been associated with both venous and arterial thromboembolism likely secondary to significant cytokine activation and inflammation. Reports on the incidence of thrombotic complications, however, are not …

  • Femoral arterial thrombosis in a young adult following non-severe COVID-19. [Case Reports]
    Ann Vasc Surg. 2020 Jul 28 [Online ahead of print]Veyre F, Poulain-Veyre C, … Chatelard P
  • CONCLUSIONS: 2019 coronavirus accesses host cells via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 protein, abundant in the lung, also expressed by endothelial cells and COVID-19 is associated with important inflammatory syndrome and coagulopathy, leading to vascular lesions. Thrombosis prevalence is not fully established, seems to be higher in case of major inflammation and in intensive care unit (ICU). Arterial thromboembolisms are described in many vascular territories, each time in elderly patients or severe infection. We described a femoral arterial thrombosis in a young patient with negative etiological assessment except non-severe COVID-19. Treatment consists in anticoagulation and antiaggregant drugs and thrombectomy. Preventing venous thromboembolism treatment is recommended in case of severe infection or in ICU but there is no clear recommendation for arterial thromboembolism prevention. This case should lead us to be very careful to arterial event risk even if the infection is non-severe and the patient young.
