- Expert guidance on prophylaxis and treatment of dermatologic adverse events with Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy in the thoracic region. [Review]
- Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) are electric fields, delivered via wearable arrays placed on or near the tumor site, that exert physical forces to disrupt cellular processes critical for cancer cell viability and tumor progression. As a first-in-class treatment, TTFields therapy is approved for use in newly diagnosed glioblastoma, recurrent glioblastoma, and pleural mesothelioma. Additionally, T…

- The Effects of Common Over-the-Counter Moisturizers on Skin Barrier Function: A Randomized, Observer-Blind, Within-Patient, Controlled Study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The effects of moisturizers on nonlesional AD skin were small and need to be addressed when powering future studies. Broadening investigations beyond the classic barrier properties might be useful in future studies.

- Allergic Contact Dermatitis Secondary to Moisturizers. [Journal Article]J Cutan Med Surg. 2020 Jul/Aug; 24(4):350-359.JC
- Background: Moisturizers are cosmetic products used routinely to manage various skin conditions. Even though moisturizers are often thought to have minimal or no adverse reactions, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to these products can develop in some cases. Methods: We studied ingredients included in 3 of the most commonly used moisturizer brands, identified their presence in standard patch tes…

- Cost and effectiveness of prescribing emollient therapy for atopic eczema in UK primary care in children and adults: a large retrospective analysis of the Clinical Practice Research Datalink. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Acknowledging limitations from unknown disease severity in the CRPD, the prescription of emollients to treat DS&E was associated with fewer primary care visits, reduced healthcare utilisation and reduced cost. Prescribing emollients, especially those containing colloidal oatmeal, was associated with fewer TCS and antimicrobial prescriptions.

- Choice of Moisturiser for Eczema Treatment (COMET): feasibility study of a randomised controlled parallel group trial in children recruited from primary care. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: It is feasible in a primary care setting to recruit and randomise young children with eczema to emollients, follow them up and collect relevant trial data, while keeping observers blinded to their allocation. However, reported use of emollients (study and others) has design implications for future trials.

- Fingolimod hydrochloride gel shows promising therapeutic effects in a mouse model of atopic dermatitis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that the gels containing 0.50% FNGL and FNGL 0.50% plus 6% colloidal oatmeal have potential for the treatment of AD. The presence of colloidal oatmeal may provide additional benefits.

- Fingolimod Hydrochloride Gel for Dermatological Applications: Optimization of Formulation Strength and Effect of Colloidal Oatmeal (Aveeno®) as Penetration Enhancer. [Journal Article]
- Fingolimod (FNGL) is an immune-modulatory agent prescribed for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. Because of its mechanism of action, FNGL is potentially a treatment for chronic, non-curable T-lymphocyte-driven inflammatory skin diseases (TLDISD) such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Since severe side effects limit the systemic administration of FNGL, the objective of this study is to deve…

- Choice of Moisturiser for Eczema Treatment (COMET): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Recruitment is on-going. At the end of the study, as well as being able to answer the question, 'Is it is possible to recruit and retain children with eczema from primary care into a four-arm randomized trial of emollients?', we will also have collected important data on the acceptability and effectiveness of four commonly used emollients.
